As I was perusing some of my old White Dwarfs, I came upon an issue that was discussing the history of Warhammer Fantasy. As I was reading, I remember reading how Rick Priestly or Jervis or some one or another was adamant that the starter box had at least 100 Citadel Miniatures.
If my count is correct, Island of Blood has 75 or so miniatures. While I'm not complaining about the box, I think it's a shame that the 100 miniature policy for the box games didn't make it into effect.
Regardless, I'll probably still own my copy of the game, just because I can...

I don't think they promised that it had 100 models and the models provided are simply fantastic so I don't really see the complaint here.

Yes, but it's the first ever starter with a big arse monster in it, so kudos there.
It all comes down to sprue space really. I don't think it's an attempt to screw the fans, more the opposite. I'd rather have 75 individual miniatures than 100 that are exactly the same. Remember 40K 2nd Edition? Shudder!

Are you sure that they weren't talking about the 7th edition starter box, which indeed had over 100 miniatures?

Well, it's not so much that they said it'd have 100 minatures, but since most if not all of the previous boxed games did I assumed this one would also include 100.
And I'm not complaining really, I like the box, just kinda hoped it'd have 100 I guess.

6th Ed had a cannon... a chariot... 16 boys... 10-16 arrer boyz, 16 handgunners and 16 spearmen... hero model for each army...
This is just from memory, but even with the three cannon crew, that's not 100.

Just because someone said something doesn't make it a policy.
The models seem fine. My only grudge is that they come with shields so making a blood bowl team out of it for skaven doesn't seem as feasible.

The Gobbos from Battle For Skull Pass are awesome! If I wasn't out of Fantasy for the duration of 7th ed, I would have had to make an army out of them.

Yeah, i'd rather have 75 kick-ass minis that 100 clones. Bought the 2nd edition starter box, there were 20 marines (w flamers, missiles and sargents), 20 ork boyz (only 1 point of possible articulation, the slugga 'bolt pistol' arm) and 40 monopose grots, oh, and a CARDBOARD CUT-OUT ork dreadnought!
At least with the new editions there are less models, put none of them are cardboard!

You make it sound better than it was. IIRC, it was a picture of an Ork Dreadnought on a square bit of card

Yes, it was.
And yet, I STILL want like 8 of the things to use in Apocalypse alongside a Greentide of Rogue Trader cut out ORK tokens.
