Here on the OT board, we tend to have alot to say about how things should be done. But do any of us actually do anything (other than vote and stuff) to shape the world we live in.
I for one used to work for Home Depot, and volunteered to build a park for kids. Took a weekend, but it felt good afterwards.
I also used to feed the kitties and man the stations at an animal adoption unit (for cats).
How about you guys?

Helped build a Playground for a brand new kindergarden up in Iceland.
So...much...wood glue. Or whatever it's called, the stuff you slather on top of Wood after it's been placed to protect it.
They just called it Woodglue (In Icelandic, of course.) but I'm pretty sure that's not the word.

Umm... not so much in the way of charity.
I have been actively involved volunteering in music festivals and medieval reenactment events, and I've just started doing 'volunteer' work for Jim Beam's music promotions in Australia... they pay in booze.
Unfortunately I don't drink bourbon or coke.

I volunteer at a food pantry every wendnesday in the summer, I used to do Relay for Life, and I occasionally work for a group called
Joey's Eagles that raises money for cancer research and childrens hospitals.
I also plan on doing at least one project for Habitat for Humanity, as one of my old teachers church goes on trips in the summer to participate in them.

I do a lot of voluntary hours at school helping students with their work, though I do sort of see that as an extension of my job. I think I will join the Samaritans when I go over to the UK, I do think volunteering is a really good thing to do. From my experience, it's a lot more common in the US than it is here in Dublin. (Or maybe the people from the US that go travelling are more likely to be volunteer types)

Not a blessed thing... I'm rather lazy. My form of support comes in donations. I should probably change that... then maybe I wouldn't feel like so much of a tool or something. I'm hoping a career change might help things.

I used to do a fair bit of campaigning for Amnesty International. I don't do as much these days, as it stopped being as effective. It's a little hard to tell a government they won't be accepted into the international community if they torture people when, well, all that stuff was going on.
I do Men of Trees stuff, planting new trees to stop salination.
|
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I work in environmental regulation, but I'm getting paid for that, so I suppose it doesn't count.
I've done some litter picking and general cleaning up kind of things.
I've also given money to certain political organizations, at least, up until they got involved with other political positions I don't necessarily agree with, but that probably isn't what is considered "volunteering".

My high school made volunteer work a requirement for graduation. Being lazy, I found what took the less time and effort to achieve that end.
I went to the library every morning, got the flag, and put her on the flag pole 80 hours over 4 years. Graduation requirement met
Never gave to charity. I've only worked minimum wage jobs and I never have much left over when I'm done with it. Maybe later down the road when income is more stable and my time with summer jobs has come to an end.

I did a lot of extra work for the NGOs that I worked for in college. They retained me as a regular employee, but on average I worked about 10 hours a week without pay.
I don't donate to charity, but that's because I need to save as much money as possible in case I don't find a job in graduate school.

You are at high risk for HIV/AIDS and must not donate blood if you have any of the following risk factors:
You are a male who has had sex with another male since 1977.
You have ever used illegal or non-prescription drugs by needle.
You have been the sex partner of a male or female prostitute within the last 12 months.
You have AIDS or one of its symptoms.
You are a person who has been given money or drugs for sex in the past 12 months.
You have ever had a positive test for the HIV antibody, indicating past exposure to the AIDS virus.
You have taken clotting factor concentrates for bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia.
You are/or have been the sex partner of any persons described above in the past 12 months.
