A mechanical walker that is quad legged, Necron torso and has an array of guns and warscythe arms, call it an Ancient One or something.
There is so much untapped material regarding Necrons it's hard to paint a picture of what new things could be imagined.

Freaky Flayed One
|
I've got way to many ideas for a single thread post, but I will try anyway.
1.) Tomb Speeder (or something). This is an open topped vehicle that can carry up to 12 Necrons. It is armed with 2 twin linked gauss flayers, and can move up to 24 inches per turn. Not sure on any of the other stats yet.
2.) Old Ones. This is a little out there, so bear with me. What if the Necrontyr and Necrons didn't kill off all the Old Ones? Instead, some of them were turned into some sort of Pariah like construct, Half Alive, Half Machine, meant to insult the Old Ones by making them eternal slaves of the C'tan.
3.) Empty Ones. These are the "new" troops of the Necrons. Living Metal bodies, with nothing inside. Manufactured very recently, they are meant to bolster the numbers of the Necrons. Empty Ones have nothing beyond basic programming, no intelligence, no soul, nothing. Just, as the name implies, empty.
4.) Necron Overlords. The real top dogs, reporting directly to the C'tan themselves. This is a Necrontyr who has retained full intelligence, sentience, and sapience. Nothing has been altered. As a result, they are individuals who truly believe in the Necron's cause, and will stop at nothing to see it through. Immensly powerful, they are a match for anything but the C'tan. Each one of the 100 takes on an individual appearance, to showcase that they are true Necrontyr.
5.) Minilith. (or something) A smaller version of the Monolith, that can move faster but has less weaponry. Can use the particle matrix's teleportation ability, but canot deep strike.
6.) Necron Obliterator. Anti tank unit, kind of like the Minilith, but has two particle whips. It would have a pyramid shape and be able to move 6 inches a turn, have a 24 inch range.
And now I'm drawing a blank. I will post more ideas as I remember them!

Necron Annihilators- A single Elites choice, which is placed by removing a single (non-unique) troops choice model from your opponent's force and replacing it with the Annihilator. Kind of like a terminator, they infiltrate enemy armies in order to scout them out and remove potential threats.
That's really all I have. I don't really have a problem with the lack of variety in Necron armies. Mostly I would like to see the rules for the EXISTING stuff upgraded to make the army more competitive. Also, I would like to see them add at least one (and hopefully more) C'Tan.

They would have to be incredibly expensive, auto-kill a model and instantly be in assault with the enemy, unless they're really bloody fragile.

Intruders (Troops Choice): Stealthy dog-like Necrons that can be taken in packs of 4-8. Great at close combat but relatively fragile, no shooting attack, can infiltrate and outflank.
WS4 BS0 S3 T3 W1 I6 A3 5+ 10 points each. One per 4 can be upgraded with Phase Jaws for 15 points, counting as a power weapon.
These are the guys who observe for and report to Necron Lords before planning an attack.
Obelisk (Dedicated Transport): 2001: A Space Odyssey style obelisk that counts as immobilized as soon as it appears on the board. Units of 12 or fewer Warriors or 8 or fewer Intruders may choose to take an Obelisk as a dedicated transport for 45 points. Arrives by Deep Strike using Drop Pod rules. The Obelisk has no access points, models simply appear outside the hull, spiraling out as if in a deep strike formation. Armed with a Gauss Blaster.
BS4 10 10 10
Basically the Necron drop pod. Rises from the ground instead of falling from outer space - Necrons teleport out of it.
That's all I got for now. I'll post more if I think of more.

I like the obelisk idea.
They need more troop choices. Flayed ones make sense. Perhaps a version of the warrior with an assault carbine: range 18", but 2 or 3 shots, perhaps one or 2 could have a blaster.
Larger units of destroyers and wraiths.
An assault skiff - living metal open-topped transport maybe.
Different srtyles of scarabs. I like the original grenade type, 'pull pin - throw self'.
Definitely a walker of some sort; big, menacing, and self repairing (sort of a FNP for vehicles). That would tend to unnerve opponents as the walker keeps regrowing weapons, keeps remobilizing, etc.
Other levels of characters. Something less than 200 or 360 would help players with lower point lists.
Some sort of elite/fast attack with 4 legs and multiple arms that could be customized (Think General Grievous.) It could move like cavalry and be optomized for CC or extra shooting.
Those are some ideas that would not only help, but sell minis for GW. (I think...)

Gravity Lord. Instead of teleporting his own units out of melee (aka Veil of Darkness), this Lord can avoid assault. Use ability after all enemy units have moved. Instead of consolidating, move all enemy units that are touching him or his squad 1" away from any Necron unit. Units moved cannot take place in any assault that turn. Use this ability once per game.

Troop variety is the truth! I would like shambling automatons, ig shots, weak engrams, worse armor save less points.
I would like tiered lords like the codex fluff suggests.
The fourth Ctan that is only mentioned in the fluff, theres uh, the second *dead* one as well... would be awesome. That one was obviously inferior, he died... less points!
Troop transports! Yes let s make super survivable troops more survivable and mobile, Im down like a 6year old to play go fish

Whenever they sit down with the codex and start stringing together ideas they desperately need to include enough new units to allow flexibility in the army's design. I swear it is impossible for me to mentally separate one Necron army from another. The only difference I've ever actually taken notice of is 'one monolith and a nightbringer, or two monoliths?'

I disagree with some of the people on here wanting to give them troop transports. The obelisk thing would be okay, but the second I start getting necron versions of rhinos is the second I start to lose interest in my army. It just doesn't really fit their image to me. Then they just become like every other army in the game where you have to buy like 5 of them to have a decent build.

I couldn't agree more. We have to make them interesting without homogenizing (sp?) them. So no Immortals as Sarges, cookie cutter transports, and very limited wargear options. Or if there are any make them upgrades for the whole unit not individual models.

Rather than having the Obelisk as a drop pod, I think it'd be cool to have it as being something which doen't transport the necrons with it, but once it's placed, can be used like the monolith to teleport them.

Yeah and for extra points you could attach some weaponry to it much like in Dawn of War. Just make sure it doesn't let you re roll WBB...or let it we necrons won't mind

Some sort of hulking mechanical abomination would be cool. Think obliterators but replace the fleshy bits with all sorts of wires and gauss weaponry all over the place.
Aesthetically Immortals should have a more cermonial look as they were the first to trade their bodies for necrodermis, for example I green stuffed some sashes and tabards onto my Immortals to go along with the lord's cape.
These new guys would be all about the weaponry. Think Mass Effect 2 husks and scions but with less squishy bitz and more wires out the ass. They could fire their weapons at different settings like noise marines, or perhaps be like Oblits with different guns, though this is kinda stealing from chaos.

I really like that idea for the obelisk thing. It would really help out pariahs. They can tear some stuff up in combat but it's just too hard to get them there since they have to walk the whole way or come out of an expensive monolith.
I still think heavy destroyers should be lance weapons. 65 pts for a las cannon is pretty pricey.

Maybe rather than a tansport to get your pariahs into battle, have a big, super tough unit called a juggernaut (Maybe make it aesthetically similar to the Khador Juggernaut from Warmachine?) that draws all fire from any squad/unit that's within a set amount of inches of it.
Alternatively, you could attach it to any squad and have it draw all fire directed at that squad.

Sorry man but Pariahs dont get to ride the monolith as they are not "Necrons" but i do agree that they need a better war to get to the fight!. i like the idea of the obelisk, i also think think flayed ones should be troop along with scarabs. and last but not least, change the squade size of wraiths to 1-5, and give immortals a 2+ save. that would make me happy, i dont really want any more cahanges

Concerning Pariahs unable to make use of a monolith, are there any fluff instances of them unable to phase out? They definitely aren't Necrons and don't get wbb, but I wonder if they could teleport.
Honestly I think Pariahs are fine as is. I would only reduce the cost on them if phase out sticks around.
Personally I think a 2+ save would be a bit much on Immortals, unless they increase the cost, though it would be nice to see their role as a tank expanded on.
For wraiths dock off 1 point first of all because 41 points is just a bizzare number.
I think their only real problems are lack of power weapon/rending and squad size. If the squad size increases I think they could prob get by without any sort of AP (since they have plenty of attacks), and retain their point cost. If they don't increase the squad size then rending or power weapons would be nice but at a slightly lower point cost.

Actually, it is worse as Pariahs are not Necrons so cannot teleport or use monoliths. For their points they are useless to the army. But then, so are C'tan. Both units 300+ points that do not help with phase out numbers. If you play these and monoliths it is pretty easy to shoot down the warriors and send the army home. Necrons really need some changes.
