G'day Dakkites,

Quick question regarding the usage of the Calladius Assassin and thier ability to 'have a word in your ear.'

I know generally how this works, but everytime I read it, I can't help but think that I could be using it better. I mainly play against a footslogging Ork army with my Mech Guard force.

If anyone has any really effective ways to use this I'd really appreciate the advice...and by effective I mean...cheap and dirty...

Thanks in advance everyone!

If you're playing mech IG, then drag their nastiest unit out of cover and Manticore the crap out of it turn 1. That's pretty much the strategy.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Yeah, that's my plan, I was just wondering if anyone had done anything else sneaky with it, my opponents are usually charging across the board at me with all thier might, so cover isn't a factor for them! :(

Orkz don't really have much that isn't straight forward in purpose and use. Moving them into your firing lanes is pretty much all you can do against them.

Moving a vehicle into dangerous terrain could work, but it's not like IG should have trouble popping ork vehicles anyway.

If you were facing something like Kan Wall, you could move them out of formation, getting rid of that pesky cover save.

Basically, against orkz, there's not much to do but single out your ideal targets, or bunch up what needs to be plated.

All kinds of mean and nasties you can do with the Callidus Word In Your Ear ability, couple already mentioned.

Move a vehicle into cover, make it test to get out, same with bikes/jump troops. Added bonus against bikes, this means no Turboboost on turn one.
Move his Dev squad behind terrain, either removing LOS or providing your units with cover saves.
Move his unit out of that bolstered Ruin. No 3+ cover save for you!!
Unmask the soft juicy target that he hid behind the Land Raider.

And of course, if you're going to take a Callidus with an IG army, you almost have to take the Psyker Battle Squad for the Neural Shredder/Weaken Resolve combo. Ever seen a Nid player cry when his Carnifex squad all instant-die to that?

Quick question, and thanks for the reply, I actually thought people weren't reading this thread anymore.

You mentioned instant killing a carnifex squad, but it would just give each of them one wound wouldn't it? I can't see how it kills them instantly...am I missing something here?

Yep, you are.

First you hit the squad with the PBS Weaken Resolve power. This lowers their LD to 4 or less. Now you hit them with the Neural Shredder which causes Instant Death to models with a LD of 4 or less (see DH/WH FAQs)............. And the ID rules require you to remove whole models for each wound suffered, if possible. And it's AP1, and a template so no cover saves.

Use it while you can though.

as soon as both the WH and DH codexs get updated that combo is going away. no more mystics or assassins for you.

Keep in mind that it is probably going to be a long time until Codex: Witch Hunters gets updated, so while Mystics and the Emperor's Tarot will be going away soon, Assassins might stick around a while longer.

Dirtiest tactic with the callidus assassin ive heard of?

moving a vehicle out of cover and LCing it with 2 vendettas 2nd turn.

If the ork player is using a KFF mek, move him away from his lines, removing the force field from some of his troops, making your first turn shooting more effective.
