In the current dex as well as bast books all the aspects of orks have been very well covered. Shooty orks, speedy orks, tread heads, stompy orks and everything in between but the ont thing that never has been really built abone is orks that love to fly!.

Now yes there are deffkoptas and storm boys.

They are there and talked about a little but nearly as much as all the other ork aspects of war.

Is there any fluff reasons for this? Do orks just not like to fly??

Generally, flight is part of the Cults of Speed. I'm guessing the reason that you don't hear too much about it is because flyers aren't part of regular 40k, and therefore not mentioned as much

Plus, my understanding was that stormboyz don't exactly survive for very long.... I don't believe a flying cult would survive for very long.

There must be some flying kults somewhere though. Who builds and flies the Fighta Bommas?

By flying kult you mean the Flyboyz?
In which case, its part of Da kult of speed.

Well I mean there just has to be a special group of orks who just love to fly around in fighta bombas and koptas as well as shoot threw space. Get in dogfights and space battles?

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

Deff Skwadrun much? Seriously, I love that comic.
But yeah, I'll also echo the "flying vehicles aren't part of the game so they have less fluff" theory.

The vast majority of Orks have a superstitious fear of flying, and they regard the tiny percentage of their kind who like to fly as having some sort of mental disorder.

Because GW likes to pretend that air combat doesn't exist in 40k, not grimdark enough I guess.

But seriusly, ork fliers fall under da kult of speed

I don't think I can agree with this. The IG Valkyrie or whatever, is a fully flying fixed wing aircraft that functions as a vehicle that shoots at ground targets. I see no reason why Ork Fighta-Bombaz can't be added in to the rules as soon as somebody can come up with a good and reliable kit to make them.

Valkyries are actually Skimmers though. Fighta-Bombas are Flyers, which means you won't find them loitering like Deff Koptas, Valkyries, Falcons, and so on.

seriously? they don't look much like skimmers to me. Sounds like a cop-out on the part of GW to me.

If you think of skimmers as behaving like helicopters, then yes, they very much look like skimmers.

The rules for flyers wouldn't even be that hard to implement. They have front, side, rear armor; penatrating rolls are much less favorable (or perhaps they have multiple 'wounds' and different penetrating rolls give a different number of wounds); they cannot tank shock or ram, but can kamikazee; they cannot engage, join, or be engaged or harmed in close combat (can only be attacked by shooting); they may move between x and y " per turn, but must move at least x or be destroyed.

So feel free to read up on the rules for Flyers.

Valks count as skimmers but I think its very clear they are not the same kinda of skimmer as a eldar grav tank is. Didnt they used to be counter as flyers in the AI books before the current dex came out?

They did, but notice all that was forge world's initiave. According to most 40k books the imperial navy still flies around in spitfires IN SPESS

There are rules for flyers in the Apocalypse book.

Man, I just put together sixty orks; thirty from the recent box set, another thirty clones from the second edition. That's a lot of painting. If I buy another 120 more, I'll have an army!

I think flyers only really work in Epic (or Apocalypse nowadays) as a crazed ork flyboy going full pelt would start turn 1 just of the table edge and have to move halfway down my street in his turn because of scale problems. They only just worked in 2ed Epic and that was a universally panned system.

Also, as Orks only really have 1 attack plane and a couple of transports, it isn't enough variety to have their own clan, so they get lumped with the kult of speed

In response to the original question, I think that a "Klan that revolves around flight" would be simply too restrictive to qualify as a "klan". The orks in a klan all share a common interest and drive, but they all also can manifest that interest and drive.

A whole klan of orks who pilot flying vehicles seems about as restrictive as a whole clan of orks who are in Dreads (note that a dread mob is possible, but not a "dread klan"), or a whole klan of orks who use Burnas (again, note that Burna boy mobs exist, but not an actual Burna klan), or a Klan of Orks who drive Battlewagons.

Being the owner/operator of a flying vehicle has to be relatively uncommon in ork society, so the "klan" would be so small as to be either more of a mob (like Deff Skwadron) or subsumed into a larger Klan (Speed Freeks).

Note that many, if not all Speed Freeks might aspire to operate something fast like a flier, but most of them have to settle for being passengers or krew. The lucky few may be able to drive their own vehicles (or nick someone elses). There isn't even a klan oriented around driving Trukks, even though those are much more common than fliers.
