So far I'm thinking Flash Gitz are more reasonable than they appear. Now I know there is no comparison to a fully decked-out Nob squad because they get access to Powerklaws, Banners, Big Choppas, Shoota-skorcha kombi's, and boss poles and can exploit wound allocation rules by equipping them differently. However I have played a few games with the Gitz and they have proven just as effective as a small Nob squad with few upgrades. For example, a Nob with TL shoota has a Str 4 AP 6 gun with 18" range. For the same price a Flash git has a Str 5 AP D6 gun with 24" range AND a 4+ Armor sv for the same points AND is able to measure his range to a target. If a TL shoota Nob upgraded to have his armor to be 4+, then a git for the same points can get the More Dakka upgrade and have a gun that's Assault 2 rather than just TL'ed and a better chance to ignore saves than a set AP of 6. The Git still has his 3 base attacks like a Nob but is actually cheaper with just a few upgrades. I also play Orks using a Big Mek w/ KFF. Nobz NEED to have cybork bodies to get the 5++ sv because they are stuck-in to assaults, which the KFF has no affect. However, I save some points with the Gitz by keeping them back with a 5++ sv with the KFF while they dakka things in a transport and not upgrading them to be cyborks. Just food for thought.

I always liked them Gitz, but a lot of people like heavy support thats more reliable.

The models are too cool not to use, but they're a helluva point sink...

I ain't got a problem with them in big games - 2,500 and up. Heck, I LOVE 'em in Apocalypse. I just can't hazard putting that many points into a sub-optimal unit at < 2,000 levels...

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

You're right that comparing a Flash Git side by side with a barebones Nob with a twin-linked shoota is favorable to the Flash Git.

Except......

We don't take bare-bones nobs. We take diversified nob squads that can take a wound on everyone before anyone dies. They're also scoring units, and close combat monsters.

This is a mechanized world, and Flash Gits don't add anything to the equation of use. Lootas fill that role nicely though...and are cheaper! And shoot further! And have just as many shots! Besides, taking Flash Gits requires giving up another heavy support option: Killa-kans, battlewagons, or gretchin artillery, all of which are irrevocably useful to different list types, while Flash Gits fill a niche for none.

And that's what it comes down to - every unit in an army should have a purpose. Something to excel at that you can apply it towards effectively. Flash Gits do none of those things that another unit can't do cheaper and more effectively.

I really like flash gitz and there fluff but for me the one thing that just makes them below the cut is that they are heavy support. If they were elites they would be a really nice option.

On a side note why are they heavy support? I never really understood that. Reading there fluff they seem much more like elite orks which they are. They should be in the elite slot while I feel the lootas should be in the heavy slot. I mean they use one of the only heavy weapons in the whole book! but they are somehow elites. I imagine in sevral years when orks get a new book this will prolly be the case. Flash gitz being eliltes to of course help sell the new kit they will get.

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

Personally I think that what Flash Gitz need is an upgrade to fix their lack of reliability ie Actually hitting the target.

Lootas are pretty much in the same field and do things way better, Nobs are the same stat base, but actually have a chance of benefiting from the extra wound and Strength over the basic Boy.

If Flash Gitz were to be useful like others have said, they would have to fit a niche, if for example we could TL the snazzguns, if the basic snazzgun was Assault 2, upgraded to Assault 3 or 4, then maybe we might look at it being sub-par but not a write-off. If we could take them mounted in a Battlewagon, maybe, just maybe they could compete with a Killa Kan mob.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
