What other miniatures are out there besides GW which could be used to 'count as' models in warhammer? I'm sick of the massive prices GW seems insistent on raising with each new edition. I've seen Mantic, and those models are great, and really cheap. But I was just wondering what other wargaming companies are out there?

Hello Kastellan,
It really depends on your army. Which one are you doing? Some armies like Skaven are hard to get as non-GW miniatures nowadays. On the other hand, Empire and Bretonnian troops, since they are based somewhat on Historical designs, can be gotten from Perry Bros, and other Historical gaming companies.

If you're willing to accept smaller models, more towards the 25mm side, Ral Partha/Iron Wind and Reaper make some great elves.

But again, it really depends what army you want to collect.

--- Good luck!

Thanks for replying

I'll be using the Wargames factory greatcoat SF troopers (when they arrive) for my guard - alongside my Warzone, VOID and Pig Iron forces.

I've got other (metal) models as stand ins for the hydrocephalic scouts in my SM - they're also from Warzone. Capital martian forces.

Even with shipping, ten of them in metal are cheaper than a box of 10 plastics from GW.

GW prices have gone through the roof, its gotten pretty ridiculous. They look awesome, but when I started the hobby it was like $2.50 for a paint pot, thats now doubled to $5. And the new started set being priced at $165. Annoyinggggg.

I would suggest having a trawl through http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com this is a fantastic site i check every couple of days which shows releases for all those lesser widely known mini companies

I only have 40k Eldar. I found some mini's at Warmachine and even bought a mini to be my Farseer from Reaper. Just gotta look around. I found a good place to go is Maelstrom.com as they have a large list of various games and their mini's. Lots of searching though. LOTS!!

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

If you ask such a generic question, I will answer in a similar fashion:
For a start browse the 71 Fantasy miniature ranges carried by this webstore:

If you need anything specific, ask.
