Playing around with a shooty battlewagon instead of the ussual naked deffrolla wagon.

I was wondering. How well would a rokkit wagon(4X rokkits,Kannon) and some tank bustas inside do for an anti tank roll.

(This is in the context of a mech ork army)

Now yes they do have that silly glory hog rule but with a range of 24 odds are the only thing that will be that close is a transport. Now with say 8 boys plus the 5 shots from the battle wagon thats bound to pop some armor isnt it? Plus there is always the option for the wagon to shoot at another target other then the boyz.

I am trying to get some anti tank in my list to pop armor so my boyz in trukks have infantry to charge instead of having to charge the transport to get the guys out of it.

This idea a viable option?

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

It's a nice pillbox, but is a big fat juicy target and has to get fairly close (24 inches) to do any damage. But if you can find some good cover to hide behind (but still see over), 23 inches from the enemy, it could do well.

I build my Battlewagons for the fun of it, and each one has a distinct theme, so I made one that was designed as the ultimate Wagon-Hunta', with four Rokkit Launchas, a Kannon, a Boarding Plank for Tank Hammas, and carrying capacity for up to 15 Tank Huntas with a Big Mek attached to them. If it sits still, this vehicle can fire 21 S8 shots anywhere within 24", and it still gets 18 shots when moving 6".

Once the GW FAQ made it clear that Deff Rollas worked on vehicles, then the giant arrangement of drills on the front that I had been using as a Reinforced Ram started doing d6 S10 hits.

Is 24" a short range for anti-tank? Yes. Is this Wagon a big, fat, and fairly expensive target for your opponent? Yes. However, with FA14 and the save from the Mek inside, it makes a great over-the-top centerpiece tank that will still be pretty hard for your opponent to kill.

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.

Battlewagons make great protection for otherwise easy to kill tank bustas. I play against tank bustas alot and always kill them before they do any damage but a battle wagon would let them use there rokkit launchas.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

The gunship battlewagon isn't very good. One, you can only fire all those guns if you're sitting still, which, with the short range of the rokkits, exposes you to assaults against rear armor. Two, you're BS 2, so you're looking at less than 2 hits on average with those five rokkit/kannon shots. Not really that great.

You're better off moving and shooting with the tankbustas or just committing to the deffrolla to smash open vehicles. If you want to have an armored bunker for shooting, get a naked battlewagon and put 15 lootas in it (but I don't really consider it a great option, TBH).

I put my tankbustas in a battlewagon often as it can really get them into their relatively short range quickly, and if you disembark them, you can use the body of the battlewagon to limit their line-of-site (allowing you to shoot at targets that their "glory hogs" rule wouldn't normally allow them to shoot at. I agree with Skarboy though on the extra weapons for the wagon... just does not seem to be a good use of points for the reasons stated. At least given the way I tend to play the combination. Think the deffrolla would be much better use of the points. I suppose if you were confident that you could move it to the center of the board and park it there, it would make an excellent firebase, but that far forward I don't think it would survive very long.

If you think you will never ever move that wagon, try it, otherwise you only need one gun.

I still say tankbustas have their greatest chance of killing a vehicle by punching it. If you stand back and blast away with rokkits, that's cool and all, but lootas put out more bullets farther, if all you want is a pillbox, lootas are better.

Tankbustas have great potential I think, but they are a mid-field unit, and will be easier to target on side armor and then with flamers. They should be focusing on getting into your opponents face rather than shooting rokkits. One day I decided to hang back with them instead of rushing into a deff-dread....did nothing with the rokkits, then got cleaned up by dual skorchas. if I had rushed it I had a good chance at killing it.

I like the idea of tankbustas in a shooty wagon, but I am trying mine with a kill cannon instead of the rockets. The optimist in me sees the tank bustas (and bomb squigs) blowing a transport, and the killcannon making a mess of the marines inside.... the realist in me sees the ablility to still move 6" and put out full firepower. Not alot, but it's something.
