After lots of forums chats and PMs to BrassScorpion from these very forums, i have finally started work on my own Brass Scorpion.

I'll be posting some pics as i go along and would welcome all comments.

Just to note: the body and tail were constructed by following the tutorial from BrassScorpions blog. So i can't claim any credit.

I actually ended up with 2 Defiler kits adn an old Soulgrinder kit i never got round to making, so i have a LOT of spare bits flying around.

The main body is set out lilek any brass scorpion i think. 2 Defiler bodies chopped off and stuck together back to back. The tail bracket is attached to oen of the defiler claw guard stuck the back of the body at an angle. one thign i did differnelty was use the flat "groin" armour plate to cover the back end of the body - when you chop it down you get a hole at the back. As i has a lot of sdpare armour i used some spare claw gaurd to armour plate the back of the scorpion so it looks a bit chunkier and more armoured.

The Scorpion Cannon (tail gun) was madde by chopping off the barrells and spacers form the normal defiler autocannon. Once i had a flat front i attached the business end of the leman rudd punisher cannon (i'm still missing the end cap, not sure where it's gone. The plan is to entirely box in the gun with armour plate and attach it to an axle so it can tilt freely on the tail.

That's it so far, not loads done but i did only start it last night. I'll post more pics as i get more done.

Hi Praxxis!
I have no idea what a Brass Scorpion looks like but the construct in the first picture looks very centipede/millipede like! Is it the main body or a tail or some other part I wonder? I'll certainly be watching to see what happens next!

The bit in the first picture is just the body. When it is done it will have a tail coming out the back and hanging over, it will also have 8 lergs and 2 claws at the front.

To see some pics i am using for reference, check out the following thread:

I rather like the centipede look, you've used those claw armour plates nicely.

I'm hoping it will look less like a centipede once the legs and tail are attached. I'll try and blu-tac it togetehr tonight to check, i'm worried abotu all the centipede comments now.

Don't let the centipede comments worry you - they're not a criticism. It makes perfect sense for Chaos to field a never-ending variety of chaotic machines in different bizarre shapes, which humans will then interpret as crabs, spiders, centipedes, scorpions or whatever. I'd far rather see an original conversion than yet another lookalike.

It looks like you're off to a good start. Putting the armor plates from the arms or legs along the back is an idea I've seen before and it usually ends up looking pretty good. Sometimes people overlap them to emulate the look of the segmented thorax of actual scorpions.

Cheers mate.

OK, did a test fitting of the legs and tail earlier today, obviously still 4 legs to build.

Also finished the Scorpion Cannon, nearly. I used the Punisher Cannoins wrapped in spare armour plates from the defiler. the wing bits on the side are from the dark eldar raider kit. Finally the claw guard on the front is from the soul grinder kit. Still missing the end piece for the cannon, my friend is still searching his IG bits box for it.

First full test fit with all legs and tail.......it's bigger than i thought it was going to be! Still need more armour plates on the legs. Turns out IG medium tracks guard armour is the pefect size to fit on Defiler legs.

Apologies for the picture quality, it's a new camera phone and i havn't worked out all the camera settings yet.

First coat of paint on the body. The lighting is pretty bad as i was paintign at night using a desk lamp for light.

The "inner" body bits under the armour will be drybrushed tin bitz to make it look like dirty brass. My theroy is that it was a normal red scorpion but has been pressed into service by the Iron Warriors who have also slapped some exra armour on it.

Cheers guys. The lightiing's not great but the legs and body under the armour are all painted with a heavy drybrush of Tin Bitz to make it look more aged and used.

It's actually a lot easier than i thought it would be. You'll need 2 Defiler kits and (in my case) the Punisher Cannon from a Leman Russ kit.

For the body and tail i followed a tutorial that was sent to me. If you want i'll pm it to you.

Finally? Check out the first thread on this build here. My first one was built the weekend of Chicago Games Day 2007 when a photo of the datasheet for Brass Scorpions was leaked onto the Internet. That was about 3 months before the Apocalypse book was released. And the builder's guide that was on the GW US website for the first 6 months of 2008 featured two different builds, mine and another larger build using 3 Defilers, both had 8 legs. Interestingly, that online builder's guide had a joke in the introduction about how me and the other builder "got the memo about Scorpions having 8 legs".
