I miss it.

I heard, on track 6, if you play it backwards, there's a smashing recipie for vegan soup...

Like Metallica, for instance.

FACT. Metallica was never cool.

So, it's okay to steal people's music because they somehow make too much money?

Yep. Steal from the rich and give to the poor (by paying for their music). IMO the whole industry is corrupt. Recordings should be free, bands should make their money touring and playing (T-shirt sales, anyone?).

MasterDRD wrote:Wow, this is the most horrible music-related thread ever. Hating on Avenged Sevenfold? Hating on METALLICA? Who are you people and when did you lose your humanity?

You know, eventually people will realise that Metallica aren't infallible. And Avenge Sevenfold are just a bunch of whiny emo douches who think they're "hard-core".

Thus theoretically since all that is being stolen is the idea of music many do not consider it theft.

You have the right to think the music industry sucks, you don't have the right to steal. Theft is wrong, this is an issue without gray area to me, theft is rape of people's rights.

We talking bill of rights here or humanistic rights? The majority of what most bands make is from concert sales (which can't be downloaded) and the majority of album or digital distribution sales go to the bloated holding companies behind them (Itunes for instance takes a significant cut for doing something that is essentially free for them to do). Legally no, outside of a few countries I do not have the right to steal (download music). However morally I consider myself somewhat immune to the criticisms and complaints of the record distribution industry which has helped to snuff out musical talent for decades and which at this point is an unnecessary middleman that only still exists due to contract law and their exceptional litigiousness.

This. Shuma has summed it up quite eloquently. It is my opinion that recorded music is simply advertising for the live act, and I refuse to pay for music that's been through the main-stream music industry because a) most of it is rubbish I don't want anyway, and b) I refuse to pay for advertising [see: not buying white dwarf or the citadel catalogues]. You can disagree with me untill the cows come home, but at the end of the day your only real arguments are "it's the law" and "I think it's wrong". I don't. End of story?

I think it's paying for advertising. I bought one once when I knew I wouldn't have internet access for a long time, but aside from that the GW website offers the same thing, plus the full collectors range, plus prices on their website absolutely free of charge.

Alright then, if it's so terrible I'll stop. And yes, I'm sure you can find many, many worse threads. Search "female space marine" or "chaos sisters of battle".

Back on topic, I'm going to the 1st tour date of the Uproar festival, and I get to see Avenged Sevenfold AND Disturbed live, one after the other! You know, those 2 bands everyone loves to hate on so they can be one of the 'cool kids'. It's going to be the best night ever.

Incorrect. I like to hate on disturbed because I spent 9 months living the floor above some crystal-methamphetamine users who would constantly blast disturbed, avenge sevenfold, etc, at all hours, which the landlord refused to do anything about. You'd hate it too if you had to listen to it coming through the floor for 9 months.

Also, I have a strong tendency towards loathing bands who's lyrics are about the unfairness of life and the pain that is deep, deep inside. IMO, they need to get over themselves. EVERYONE is like that at age 15. NO ONE should still be like that in their 20's or 30's.

I was tempted to add something about how yes, I know they're marketing to kiddies, but left it out. Really, that just makes them as despicable as anyone else in the industry, because they're IMO, encouraging said kiddies to revel in thier anguish rather than, y'know, getting on with life and growing up.

Okay, I'll admit that I was overgeneralising on the last post, I was mainly talking about Disturbed, who are one of my pet hates. I lumped Avenge Sevenfold in there because it's mainly the same people who listen to said bands. Also, I use a very large brush when painting things as "emo" or not.

Fair enough. I understand how anyone can hate a band if they have to listen to it all the time.
For the most part, I agree with you about disturbed. I like osme of their songs, but find most of them aren't worthwhile.

But if you come near A7X I will cut you with a fething rusty spoon.

Okay, fair enough, I'll stop ragging on "A7X". Also amusing to notice that it doesn't say feth in your quote while I'm typing this, but it does in the forum. Swearing filter I guess.

Are you insane? That would be like f***ing heaven for me! In fact please tell me where you lived before, I'd like to move there immediately!

It's really, really not. They had a massive bass system, so there was literally no sleeping if they were cranking the music, which was most of the time. And if you think living above crack-heads is heaven, try having people kicking your door in at 3 am trying to rob the downstairs tennants for their drugs, having to leave your house to catch some shut-eye, constantly having music you hate pumping through the floorboards, in a non-insulated building that amplifies noise. They left broken glass all over my landing and stairs too. (the access to both places was downhill from the street) In short, it sucked grox-balls.

On a lighter, note, holy f***ing sh**. I just got back from the concert and it was the single most intense concert I've ever been to. My head is in agonizing, blissful pain, my ears are ringing, and my throat feels like I've been drinking liquid sandpaper for 5 hours straight. In other words, it was awesome! The best part is, between bands they actually played good music; almost the entire stadium was singing along when 'Creeping Death' came on, and it was just the background music between bands! If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pass the f*** out now...

While I disagree with your taste, I can't disagree with that feeling. Got the same buzz from many awesome gigs, most notably Slipknot (back when I was 15, at a gig with 30k people), and more recently Immortal, Nile and Cannibal Corpse. Fething great to be alive after some live metal!

Necros wrote:I haven't been to a concert in 10 years. I used to love it when I was younger, nowadays it just hurts my ears and the pot smell just gets old after the first 2 minutes. I guess I'm just getting old :(

But I'm happy knowing nothing could ever top the last concert I went to. Halford opening for Queensryche who open for Iron Maiden. I was in the 3rd row. It was metal heaven for me.

Hehe, I went to a gig just after christmas, a band called Kora. Mostly dub/reggae but with influences of rock, rap and metal. Anyway , the pot smell there was so strong that I went in sober and came out wasted! (IMO not actually a negative)

My version of "metal heaven" was getting to the front of the stage/front row at Cannibal Corpse. 'Twas the s**t.
