I thought it was solidly in the middle, quality-wise, of all the albums they've made. They're exploring some new directions from their screaming roots, and while it's a little more developed than their efforts on their self titled album I think it's far inferior to Waking the Fallen and City of Evil.
If you don't have either of those, I'd purchase those first. If you do it's worth a listen but I don't think it's going to blow you away.
Bugger me and call me meryl (Got to say that more often)
This is a band i thoroughly approve of. I heartily enjoyed their early stuff, which was very heavy, or at least less whiney ( ) but as their music changed, i was suprised that i still liked it.
@ Iamthewalrus - I agree with you to an extent. Whereas waking the fallen IS a good 'un, i enjoyed their self titled album more, mainly cos of a little piece of heaven. Love that song.
@GES - If you listen to some of their stuff, seriously consider A little piece of heaven. It may be long at 8.00 mins, but its a great great lollage. The vid is even better
This new album im enjoying alot. Its not as punky as their recant stuff IMO, and it still retains that avenged we know and love.
After listening to this album a couple of times through, I would recommend it. The songs on here bite a bit more than the last one (not that it was bad) and are a not more focused than City Of Evil. Their early stuff has more of a punk/screamo element to it that won't be coming back (due to Matt Shadows' throat surgery), it was pretty good as well (I'm not much of a screamo fan either).
Nitemare is a great song, the one on here I can't stop listening to is "Fiction". Not metal at all, but very well done.
Mike Portnoy did a great thing by taking time off from Dream Theater to do the drums. No one can replace The Rev, but you really couldn't go wrong with a metal god like Portnoy.
Catachan LIX "Lords Of Destruction" - Put Away
1943-1944 Era 1250 point Großdeutchland Force - Bolt Action
"The best medicine for Wraithlords? Multilasers. The best way to kill an Avatar? Lasguns."
"Time to pour out some liquor for the pinkmisted Harlequins"
I can't watch the video, low bandwidth connection on the road, but I've always found A7X far too whiney to even begin to enjoy. It'd have to be significantly better.

M.I.A., Bat Country, Buried Alive, Scream, and Afterlife have got to be my favorite songs of theirs.
As from their Newest CD, I must say Nightmare (Track 1), Welcome to the Family (Track 2) and Buried Alive (Track 4) are my favorite.
I recomend Bat Country first, it's the song that got me into them... Last year? when I first heard it.
He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
Love A7X. They are one of my favorite bands. Nightmare very quickly reached my list of favorite songs ever and is my favorite A7X song by a mile. The rest of the album is nothing like Nightmare, which was a bit disappointing for me personally. But it's still a good album. My favorite songs other than the title track are "Welcome To The Family" and "God Hates Us".
And "A Little Piece Of Heaven" is such an amazing song, I can't even. You see? It boggles my mind. A song about murder, necrophilia, supernatural revenge, chainsaw killing sprees, and zombie marriage? YES.
Nightmare is a good album. At times it has a similar sound and feeling to that of Metallica's Death Magnetic, although you can still tell it's Avenged Sevenfold. I'm really glad that Mike Portnoy was the drummer for the album, as he was The Rev's favorite drummer.
I would fully recommend you buy this album if your considering it. You will not be disappointed.

I heard some of it, it's ok. Never been a huge fan of them but it was better than I expected.
I'm more psyched about the new Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden There's lots of new metal that just came out or is about to. it's been a very metal summer.

I miss it.
I agree. It was more innocent time. But hey, perhaps we're being overly nostalgic - I'm sure there were bands that sounded a spank version of Metallica back THEN, too.
Like Metallica, for instance.

Naw, Metallica was great at one point, till eMpTyV killed them. I remember seeing some kinda awards show back in the day when they had long hair, and lars said something like "I'd like to thank MTV because this award shows just how far you can get without them" .. and then lookit what happened...
Master of Puppets is a required CD in any worthwhile metal collection. But I hate everything on Kill em All, there's only a few good ones on ride the lightning and And Justice For All. The rest is crap. IMO
Wow, this is the most horrible music-related thread ever. Hating on Avenged Sevenfold? Hating on METALLICA? Who are you people and when did you lose your humanity?

It's pretty easy to hate on avenged sevenfold. They're bad and they don't have the cult or classic status that METALLICA has which makes them semi immune to criticism.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad

Yeah Metallica's pretty sweet even if there recent stuff is less than sub-par (which is till better than all of Avenged Sevenfold).
I bought and enjoyed the 'black' album by metallica and still enjoy the occasional listen. I tried later stuff and loathed it. Coupled with Lars Ulrich's greedy bastard attitude towards music ripping, so diametrically opposed to my favourite, Trent Reznor, led me to hate metallica.
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
