To do so would be nonsense, and innappropriate. The commander has already made a determination for war, and all he expects of me is to prosecute it to the best of my abilities. Yep, that's how it's done - use the Allies rules in one or other of those Codecies.
I think they are Elites.

They are.
Basically, you use Codex: Witch Hunters or Codex: Daemonhunters as allies for your Space Marine force, field an Inquisitor Lord, and you can take a single Assassin - you only get one Elites choice with allies, so you have to pick. I'd personally take the Vindicare assassin, but I'm biased, as a big fan of the Vindicare temple.
Go get a copy of Codex: WH or DH and see for yourself.

You'll find this discussed in the thread below about Daemonhunters but to clarify....
Inquisitor Lord as a 2nd HQ and Assassin as an Elite choice. Either of the above mentioned codcices (codicii?) will provide all necessary rules

Proper Latin = codices.
Official Games Workshop terminology = codexes.

...what?
Look it's perfectly simple. You field an Inquisitor Lord as your second HQ, then you get to field the Vindicare as an Elites choice.
Seriously, just go get the codex, we're not going to do all the work for you.

sorry dude, I thought this was what the forums were for? I don't have the codexes and was theorizing about the possibility of invovling some new mini's in my list, my idea's about the list had massive holes in the information. If I can't use the forum to bounce idea's off and ask for help I'm pretty screwed. But feel free make a noob player like me feel even more noobier, good work

you may be able to get the Codex from game-workshop.com. go to 40,000, then Daemonhunter, then Daemonhunter Artcles, you should be able to Download the Daemonhunters Codex from there (and the Witch Hunters Codex appropriatly)

Unfortunatly, the free DH/ WH codexi (sorry SaintHazard , I just love that word ) on GW's website lack the allies rules so you'll need to go out and find a proper paper 'dex to get them, unless you know of someone with the 'dex who can show them to you, in essence, it's a mini FoC That allows you to take up to 1 HQ and 1 elite slot from the codex amoung other slots but thats all you really need to know for allying assassins.
Also, forums are for getting advice of what to do, once you have that advice you do the legwork.
Below is the advice,

Addition to my last post, you'll find them in the astronmicon section if you wish to go serching for it this way.
Either way, you have to sign up to the website to get access.

But feel free make a noob player like me feel even more noobier, good work Firstly, help is one thing - spoon feeding it to you is another. If you feel that you're genuinely out of your depth then I would advise you to find someone that can help you get started, the learning curve is pretty steep. I've done that for quite a few people over the years. Secondly, we're not allowed to just give out rules wholesale, GW will be down on the forum like a ton of bricks. We can quote very specific passages for purposes of discussion but just giving you the rules because you don't have the book is way outside of that.

Thanks for all your help guys, like I say I'm really new to the community and even newer to the game. Haven't been painting very long and have no real idea how to play my list yet, I'm really interested but I needed a lot of pointers :( I hope you guys didn't take any offence (any one in the thread) have started to play at the age of 30 and as you say am way behind the curve. I'll endeavor to get less nooby, thanks again for the heads up

If you're mainly interested in the models, you can also try "counts as", provided your opponent's happy. A vindicare might make a sniper leader for a scout unit. The Eversor model might make a stand alone character with bolt pistol and power fist. It'll not pass a tournament, but if you're a noob and are mainly interested in the miniatures, it'll let you field them as is.

If your question has not been answered: to to games workshop, click the eversor (hes better for sm IMO), click add to cart, then go to daemonhunters HQ, click inquisitor lord, click add to cart. Pay your money, field both, and no one will have any quarrel with you.

Doesn't need to be a lord, an Elite Inquisitor will do. "An officio assassinorum operative may only be chose if an inquisitor lord or inquisitor is also part of the force."

I think it was pointed out that when you ally into another army you only get 1 elite slot, so an elite inquisitor would take up that single slot. Not having the codex on me I cant check that is accurate however...

That's true if you're playing an Inquisition army. If you're allying Inquisition forces into another army then you are limited by FOC choice constraints. Allies can only bring in a single Elites choice and you need to keep that open for the assassin. This makes it impossible to bring in an allied Inquisitor and an allied assassin at the same time because that would be two Elites choices out of a maximum of one, making it necessary to use the HQ Inquisitor Lord.
If you do it the other way around with allied space marines or inducted guard joining an Inquisition army then yes you can use an elite Inquisitor to enable assassins.
