Subject: Would you object to a rhino or chimera counting as an ork trukk?
Slowly getting my ducks in a row for my ork army. Looking at the trukk model..I am not really a fan of it. It just seems kind of odd and out of place next to my lemen russes that I am using as looted wagons. Would anyone object if i used ether rhinos or chimeras as my trukks? The correct gear would be shown of course. The big shootas would be easy to spot as well as I would leave the top hatch and maybe even the back hatch off to show that it is open topped. Plus just generally orking it up a bit.
I just want to doubt check on how everyone feels about it before I start sinking time into it. Plus my orks are going to ether be death skulls or blood axes which I think would fit with this idea pretty well.

No, though it would be better if it was converted. If it's converted, people should have no problems with it at all (I mean, it's a GW model, it's fluffy, and it looks cool).
Also, it's Leman Russ, not Lemen Russ...

id have to agree with melissia on that...if you did some sort of orky conversion then most people wouldnt have a problem with it. now in my area we do have an ork player who uses land raiders, rhinos and chimeras for his trucks and battlewagons, and he just tossed on some bits from about every codex and even used some banners with the ork clan symbols on it and the big tournies had no problem with it.
you would just have to be creative when you convert them.

I think I will prolly go with rhinos. I have a few better ideas for doing rhinos the chimeras.
As for the footprint of a rhino next to a trukk. I want to say the rhino is slightly shorter but is slightly wider. The trukk is slightly taller as well due to the hand rails in the back of the trukk. But really the size diffrence is so small that if anyone is going to get bent out of shape about it. I doubt they are someone I would want to play with in the first place.
I also dont play in tournys in general. I have been in a few and did fairly well but the super competitive style play just isnt really my scene.

Well, a fully converted, dedicated model would be cooler than a stock Ork Trukk anyway, so why would anyone ever mind? And since it kind of keeps in with the theme of your Lemon Russes, it's all the better. Me, I would paint the Russes Bad Moon...

I actually had the thought of going with badmoons. I like there icon a little bit better as well as you just dont see Yellow on the table very often. Having an army that really stands out on the table is always pretty nice.

Well thanks for the input guys. I am going to go ahead and go with it. I am going to use rhinos as my trukks.
Leave the top hatch off and the back hatch. Cut off that middle area between the two. Then cut out so that the side hatches go all the way threw. Leaving it pretty opened topped.
After that general orkin it up and I should be good to go!

If you'd like, you can take a look in my gallery - I did the exact same thing, as I dislike all the little fiddly bits in the Trukk kit that seem totally unnecessary (seriously? Why do I need to give it a multi-part suspension?). So I stole a Chimera and Orkified it a good deal. S'gotten nothing but compliments every time I bring it out. Note that it's listed under the Looted Wagon bit, as I was originally going to run one of these but changed my mind.

Thanks for the input. I actually saw those pics. There good. I am going to use the diamond steel plastic card as the floor which I got that idea from seeing your rhino. As well as how you decoed the inside with hangning the back packs on the wall.
But with the chimera I dont feel like ill have enuff extra suface space ontop to do what I want with my big shoota as well as a few other ideas I have.

You'd need to seriously cut up the Rhino/Chimaera you were using, 'cause ork Trukks are AV10 all round, but I can see it working. Hell, my own looted wagon is a heavily modified Rhino, and it looks just how I wanted it to.

This is the stuff that I used for my flooring: Plastruct Diamond Plate. I found it at a hobby store that's close to me, but you can order it off their website pretty easily. It's perfect for 40K stuff, as it's just the right size.

Nice that was the same idea i had for the chimera but for me it just doesnt look right for some reason. I cant put my fingure on it. It just seems like there is to much open space? I dunno cant figure it out. I think I will like the rhinos better. I may also end up making the rest of my looted wagons out of rhinos as well to give everything a slightly more uniformed look to everything.
Or well use vindi kits actually. Since it comes with that extra side armor and a diffrent front. I can cover up the hole were the cannon would be with plastic card. It will be a bit more well armored and beefy looking then your stock rhino with a turret on top. Will give it a more tank like feel.

In the long term, I think a trukk army made out of beat up looted chimeras would look really classy, especially if, as you say, you have other looted imperial vehicles in your army. It would basically be an ultra-loot-army-of-win.
Yeah lookinag at the chimera sprue online I might try that first instead of the rhino. What I wasnt feeling was that peice that the turret sits on. I felt like if I cut that in half there still wouldnt be alot of room left in the back to be left open and it make any sense. But looking at the sprue. I dont have to put that top peice on that the turrent sits on. Build the whole model as is. Just leave off that top peice and the back hatch. That will leave it pretty open topped. Build a wall were the gunner and driver would be and I should be good to go.
Which now that i think about it. Its more or less the same thing someone above had done in one of there pics.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Yeah its the same thing insaniak did. But I am not going to have that extra part on the back. I also have a diffrent idea for my big shoota but same basic idea. I think I am going to but trackguards on on the top secetions of the treads. It will give me some surface space for painting as well as adding some more bitz on top like some sadbags around the top opening.
And it will match my russes better. Plus I plan to get some super heavy tanks and ork them up as well for apoc games so everything will have the same basic looted imperial guard look.
Fluff wise IG stuff would be alot more common for orks to get ahold of then space marine gear since as far as fluff goes space marine stuff and marines in general are somewhat rare even if they are everywhere on the table top haha.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Or hmm I could leave that top piece on. Cover up the holes with plastic card and leave the top hatch and back hatch off to show that it is opened topped. I think that would work to as well...
hmm I am just rambleing that this point. Ill have to get the model and go from there.

Somehow £11.50 for 2 sheets of plastic 12"x6" seems a lot of pennies.
Thanks DiscoVader
the linky was dead but did a Google and find some UK suppliers. For some reason couldn't see it on the linky that KK popped up.
Maybe cheaper to order from the US even with postage

As long as your conversion is the same size (dimensions) as a regular trukk, I would love seeing this on the battlefield. If there is someone at your flgs or someone on the net who could give you the dimensions, this would be optimal. Otherwise your vehicle would be undersized, and cheating, in a way.
Giant, ridiculous wheels on a rhino?

Or I could also take a chimera and turn it around. THen turn it into a sort of lcvp landing craft like they used on D-day and in the pasific in WWII. Same idea and would look similiar it would just be on land and have treads.

I say buy the ork truck and kit bash it with a rhino or chimera! Make a nice custom conversion. Also rhino is a bit smaller then the ork truck and doesn't appear to be open topped
