And very probably saving the Japanese nation from destruction.

On topic: Hats off to the Greatest Generation.
Off topic: History International > History Channel.
Pickers, pawn stars, and other crap have no place on the History Channel. Just more boring realty show bs.

I guess as a consolation prize, at least WWE wrestling didn't get on the history channel, thus making it a slight step up from the 'SyFy' channel.
Ugh.

Took two a-bombs, allied forces floating next door, and the Soviets invading in their northern territories to get the empire to surrender. Their atrocious crimes against humanity also go largely unnoticed compared to the Nazi's; thank god the good guys won - now we gotta do something about the whole whale situation/pissing off Asian neighbors by ignoring or downplaying their history.

I found this article today. Pretty disturbing.
Whether or not you agree with the bombs being dropped, you have to agree that they're horrific things. I can't believe people would advocate their use as anything but a last resort.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

The Chi-coms lie about things? Never! Automatically Appended Next Post: In all seriousness though, the Japanese needed to be shocked into submission in order to end the war. Hell, Hirohito had to actually assume a true leadership position in order to stop the bleeding.

Well to be fair, it was a last resort. We even warned them ahead of time that we were gonna do it. I was reading about the memorial service that we attended this year. Some of them wanted an apology for us dropping the bomb (mostly vets and survivors). I'm sure China would love one from them. Fethin WW2 Japs made the Nazis look like nice guys.

Oh, I'm not contending that. There wasn't much choice, but that doesn't make it any less horrific.
