With the coming of the 8th edition rulebook I have decided to switch from 40k to fantasy (at least for the time being). After having looked through the different armies I finally settled on making a night goblin themed army, mostly because I didn't quite like the other core choices. So after asking around I found a friend that had the goblins from the BFSP lying around. So with out that much hassle I had quite a nice block of models to paint, and thus came the idea of starting a painting blog. Seeing as I'll be quite a lot of models I thought that this might give me the incentive to keep painting.

The story behind my army will be that of outcasts. The tribe Da Skull-pile goblins lived comfortable lives in the darkness which they called home, until one day when the dwarfs felt the need expand their mining efforts and thus launched a full scale assault against the goblin caves. Being faced with such power the tribe had no choice but to flee the mountains. Scampering out of the caves with the loss of a great part of the tribe they found solace in the shadows of the trees by the foot of the mountain. That night the a great bonfire was lit and vowing not to wear the black robes again before they had reclaimed their rightful home. That night they forsake their previous identity and became know as da Exiled Ones.

Since I didn't want to paint my goblins in the customary black I decided to go with a more earthy color. This is what I came up with.
This being the first model I painted turned out abit on the bad side. Improved the highlighting and shading on the models I'm working on right now, will upload those when they're finished.

(Apparently my camera was out of battery and the charger is mysteriously gone, so this one is photographed with my cellphone, picture quality will be improved later on. )

So I've had quite a lot of free-time these last days and I've managed to finish ten more spearmen. I think they turned quite alright. I had some problems with the bases but I think that I managed to find something that I could roll with. This is how the first ten looks at this moment.

I also started work on a fanatic just to spice things up a bit seeing as just painting spearmen got quite boring. This is how he looks as of now.

So what do you guys think?

They look fantastic. I love the robe colour you've chosen and the skin looks great too.

Can I ask what kind of clumpy grass you're using?

Thanks a lot. The flock is a meadow blend from Gale Force Nine which found at my LGS. I felt the green with hints of red might make a nice contrast to all the brown.

So I've been doing some more work on my NG army, I finished another 5 spearmen yesterday bring the total up to 15 which is nearly half way there for my first regiment. I also finished the work on my fanatic, haven't gotten around to take any pictures of it yet. I'll upload some if you guys want to see them.

On the other hand I couldn't keep my hands away from the spider riders, so I started to paint one of them and before I knew it the model was finished. I found that the model was really fun to paint. The only thing I regret is not re-modeling the legs of the spider... they look kinda awkward right now. But hey, next time I'll make sure to put some work into that to make it look more realistic. This is how the painting turned out. Hope you like it.

Thanks for all the nice comments about my spider rider. Just thought that I'd might upload my finished fanatic, and this one comes with a question. I was thinking that I'd might add some red mushrooms and suchlike on the bases to make the whole model colorful. So I was wondering, does it sound like a good idea? And does anyone have a good/easy way of making mushrooms for the bases?

This is the fanatic for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully the images will start to improve soon as I'm going to get a replacement for my lost Nikon charger so that I can use my real camera instead of my cellphone.

I always liked the additions of red cap mushrooms to a base to add some colour.

I always use Geen Stuff that I have left over from other projects befor it dries.

Sculpt a cone, make sure the bottem end is slightly hollow.

When dry add a stalk.

when the stalk is dry fill the gaps between the stalk and the capand with a sharp knife add lines radiating out from the stalk (this makes the gills).

As an option you can add some blobs of GS to the caps and if you want to pit them to make more 3D spots.

And some times you can ge carried away Like me.

So I've finally found the charger for my camera so I'll probably be uploading better quality photos tonight or tomorrow morning. So stay tuned.

@Rose: Yeah the new starter box is looking great, going to get my hands on that aswell. I was born and raised outside Uppsala and that's where I'm attending the university right now.

@Obsidian: Thanks for the info, I'll make sure to try making some mushrooms for the next 5 spearmen I'm working on right now.
