I have been collecting games workshop models for about 22 years now and it's about time to have a clear out (or shold I say my wife wouln't let me get any more until i've shifted the models I don't use any more).

In order to give them a good send off i'm giving them an updated paint job (it's also a chance to practice my painting and modeling skills).

One of the sets that I have the most of are my Space marines and imperial guard from the 1989 Space Marine game (now epic). I've always had an intrest in some of the more obsurce chapters and the Rainbow Warriors are ones I have chosed to have a go at. I will eventualy have a go at a full 28mm scale force, but for now I will content myself painting my Epic force.

There are two pictures which have helped with the inspiration.

I also am includeing the obligitory picture of the old models piled up befor their overhaul. Painted when I first started out.



All I've been able to find out about the Chapter is their Home World is called Prism and that they appear to be deleted. If any one knows any more feel free to comment.

I've alredy got some ideas on how to organise them which I will share later on this thread.

I've always wanted to see some Rainbow Warriors painted up properly. They always seem to be teased when mentioned for some reason...

I truly hope that I don't disappoint any one with this. It's my first attempt at a modelling and painting blog.

I've made a start of striping the paint off of the plastics with Sainsbury's all purpose cleaner and an old tooth brush.

I've primed 5 of the Rhino's that I had that were unpainted to start with.



I have also began cursing my use of polly cement when I built these in my yonger days (though its the right thng to use ) as it is hell removing the marines from their bases and has involved me cutting the basses apart (i've saved the pieces of the bases for use as rubble for the scenery I will be making along with the army).



I still need to scrape some more of the paint off (probably with a pin). I've glued them to a wooden coffee stirrer all purpose adhesive (relatively strong but easily removed when I base them). This should make it easier to paint and model.

I'm going to scratch build the new bases. This leaves me with my first question when I rebase them should I use old style square bases, the newer rectangle bases or some thing different (circles, hexes or more natural looking rectangles)

Just a quick update.

I've almost finished a test paint on a Rhino. I'll probably add some Green Stuff detail later.





I have added some banners to the unit Sargent and corporal.

Another painting update of the marines









Theres still some tidying to do but their comming along I think .

I've started tidying the banners with some GS. I'm not that happy with the corprals top though



I've almost finished the paint job on the Rhino and have started doing some GS detail. The feather banner below has been sculpted on a staple (as at the time it was the most rigid peice of wire I could find that waas the right diameter).



As for the fluff it's almost finished. Unforunatly I've left it on my work computer but as a taster it covers some of ther unique close combat weapons, aspects of their language and the Chapter Cult blood rituals.

It's wierd, I tend to paint better at the smaller scales. I suppose is more forgiving to some degree.

Rainbow Warriors

The Rainbow Warriors are a second founding chapter of the White Scars. Their Spiritual Home world is the planet Prism, they are now more or less nomadic in nature but return to Prism and their Fortress Monastery Yollotl Itza (The Temple) for various sacred rites to the Chapter.

Battle Cry: A loud cry in perfect unison of “We will unite the light of the Emperor” followed by a collection of high pitched woops, yells and cry’s

Homeworld
Their spiritual home world is Prism. It is classed mostly as a feral world, there are however, a few areas that are starting to develop Feudal traits.

The Planet had most of its biosphere removed during the Great Crusade (See History comming soon). The surviving Fauna and Flora of Prism has evolved to be extremely aggressive and hardy in order to survive.

The people of the more feral areas wonder the plains and forests in a nomadic existence together in many diffrent tribes. They survive off hunted or foraged food. In some cases a few of the tribes have developed some basic farming techniques becoming semi-nomadic. In most cases when tribes cross each others paths this leads to bloodshed over the limited recourses of Prism.

There are a few areas in the equatorial regions which have developed primitive civilizations with some advanced water gathering and farming techniques allowing them to grow and create their pyramid temples and stone cities.

The different peoples of Prism have multiple different ways of worship but all ultimately do see the Emperor as a God, and the majority do partake in some form of sacrifice. Some of the civilized peoples build sacred temples to reach higher to the skies, some have made huge images on the floor of animals as well as perfectly parallel lines to try communicate with the Rainbow Warriors and the Emperor. For the nomadic tribes most of worship consist of dancing around fires and carved wooden effigies. All this rolls over to the Rainbow Warriors own cult.

In M34 with the blood nomads flowing through their veins many of the Rainbow Warriors started to feel too tied down and shortly after The Howling in 401.M34 they chose to leave in small battle groups performing only short warp jumps, wondering from planet to planet supporting beleaguered Imperial where they could and finding new quarries to hunt, but they still return to Prism for special religious days the most important being Yollotl Ahuitzotl which happens every 40 Years where the whole Chapter must be in attendance. The Temple remains their Fortress-Monastery, though automated defence systems were installed as well as a small force (mainly the Rainbow Warriors recruited from the Equatorial City States. They have also started recruiting from some other planets in limited numbers, but they will only recruit from feral planets and only in the most extra ordinary circumstances as that chapter cult requires that all the initial training must be performed on Prism. This influx of off world blood no matter how small has added to the diversity of the Chapter.

Hey there - there's not much written info - the name was originally a joke, as a lot of things in 1989 40k were - they were presumably named for the Greenpeace boat Rainbow Warrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Warrior_%281955%29) - famously sunk by French security forces in the mid 80s.

This Greenpeace reference is why every fan-fluff version of them since has them as some sort of nature-based chapter.

The only other bit of info is that picture of the Adepta Sororita shooting a Rainbow Warrior on the back page of Rogue Trader, hence the idea about them being renegade/deleted/expunged etc..

@ ArbitorIan I rember well when the original Rainbow Warrior was sunk by French special forces. Back in the mists of time.

What a lot of people don't realize is the the Boat was named after a book that was relesed in the '60's Called Warriors of the Rainbow by William Willoya and Vinson Brown which was a re-hashing of several Native American legends including Hopi, Cree, Cherokee and Kwakiutl. One of the quotes attriuted to a Cree Woman goes:

"There will come a time when the Earth grows sick and when it does a tribe will gather from all the cultures of the World who believe in deeds and not words. They will work to heal it...they will be known as the "Warriors of the Rainbow."

This is more what i'm basing this Fluff on a combination of many diffrent Native American Tribes and Civilizations, I may even use the quote with a few alterations.

As for the models. I've busy so there has only been a small bit of progress.

I've been working on some terrain, jungle trees and carnivorous plants:







All based on the tails side of 1p and 2p coins (so I can't be accused of defacing the Queens Head ).


I've been maiking my own bases from old debit cards. The white patches are to hide some of the information.



It is two layers of card the top layer had five holes drilled in to it, they were then glued together.

I have almost finished the first base with the corporal and Heavy.



The corporals banna depicts the Chapter wide symbol for their Homeworld, Prism.

The second part of the fluff has a little way to go yet, but it's comming along.

I've got a second interview today for a new job, so, all going well I will starting a new job soon which will inially eat my time but in the long run will give me more.

I'm sorry there hasn't been any updates recently. As well as this new job, I have also found out that i've got to go in to hospital today to have a hole in my heart fixed. as well ashaving to give my mum away at her wedding in two weeks time! Alll in all I have been and will be very busy over the next few weeks.

Hopelfully I will be back to finish this off!
