Sounds about right. Denny's feat is one of my least favourite to play against in the entire game.

That is pretty much it. Makes your army suck so that everything Cryx seems better.

It gets especially bad when you stack Withering, Crippling Grasp or Parasite, and Dark Shroud. -6/7 ARM.
Add the Ripjaw or Warwitches ability to lower Def, and the Cryx stats do not matter, you are hitting and wrecking stuff.

I almost got Saxondog to ragequit a game. I threw Crippling on his Uhlans 1st turn.
Popped feat 2nd turn and killed them off with the Withershadow Combine and a couple Bane Thralls.

Threw him for a loop so bad, I got to hear rants of how broken Cryx was.

I don't think they're broken, but they're not especially good fun to play against when running lockdown. I think anything that completely stops your opponent from doing what they do is generally less fun for him than something that makes you awesome, because of how people's brains work.

It's de-buffing...so indirectly, she's buffing all her stuff .
The balance is....she is squishy.

Stealth/hard to hit, yes, but anything that hits will hurt real bad...and there are things that bypass stealth and hit pretty well...

ex. ATGM w/ the Dude, and Deadeye.....EWWWW.
The only thing that saves Denny is staying like 20" away from them or using a unit to screen.
Then they could have Siege to sink the Screen.

So..... IMO every caster has their cool stuff.
Cryx plays dirty....it's what you'd have to expect .

Ha-HA! Finally, Cryx! But yeah, you have it right. Deneghra is such a sweet caster... It's just a shame her battlegroup model is so vertically challenged.

Heh, I wanted to convert pDenny from the eFeora model....but after reading PP's rules on coverting it turned me off from doing, I may just do it in the future though for friendly games...........I thnk eFeora is a great basis for it.

Yeah the problem is I also got the old metal Battlebox... Besides, the new one isn't out until September, I thought?

The battleboxes were available at gencon. Also available at
gencon were the alt sculpts separate, but cast in metal

One answer to withering is The Butcher of Khardov. His feat, Blood Frenzy grants boosted damage rolls to all models in his command area and his spell Full Throttle grants a boosted attack roll, both to the Warjacks in his battlegroup. That would effectively negate the effects of withering with respect to attacks and damage, allowing you to get close to her, clear away her bodyguards and put her down. "Withered? Withered? THIS IS KHADOR!!!" (I couldn't resist...)

Yea, but you can't charge, in addition to the spd debuff.
So at the very least it's a turn of you most likely shooting stuff rather than beat face.

A counter feat is a good idea at times I will agree.

I've looked over and over in the MKII book, and I cannot find anywhere that it says you have to charge to move into close combat. Is that the case? Because if it is, then Withering is indeed too powerful.

You can still advance normally (at at least -2 spd) and beat face.

But the charge is important because it gets you 3" of extra movement and the free boosted damage die. So basically withering reduces the maximum speed via charge by 5inches and forces you to spend focus for that boost (should you need it) rather than another attack or something.

No, it's just that you'd have to be pretty damn close already to make it into combat with -2 SPD AND no +3" charging...

That's somewhat reassuring. Perhaps I'll be getting some Winter Guard Rifle Corps (Range 14") with some field guns. (Range 16"). Reach out and bad-touch her.

She still has stealth, so you gotta get lucky with the AoEs.

Move a jack shoot it in the back. Blast problem solved. Plus she either has to commit to killing that or eating free strikes next turn. I've tried this out a couple times with a pVlad/Destroyer list and works pretty well.

She would 'only' take the 0.5*p + 2d6 blast only to run away in her nexct turn due to her having the Parry special rule; making her immune to free strikes.

She is probably my favourite cryx caster, followed by termy and venny.

Still, I do not think you will get denny like that often, as you can see this coming from a mile away and she can just use crippling gasp or something to tie down the jack you want in BTB.

Thing is that she has the tools to effectively ignore your jacks if she has to... Also a nice sideeffect of the grasp technique is that you are now getting a good hit at a jack with -2 arm. (possibly 3 when parasite instead of crippling grasp). So you are doing the work for denny

Denny has Parry. She is immune to freestrikes.

I usually find that going balls-to- the- wall against her is the best way to counter her feat. You still have to worry about it, but if you force her to use it defensively, rather than as a WinCon setup, the game is half-won. Just keep your caster back until you have set up your own WinCon.

One small annotation about withering is that it doesn't affect weapon POW or RNG, so ranged armies will be less affected in their ability to dish out damage especially since they can also aim to get past the -2 RAT. Last game I had against pDenny I was running Kaelyssa, so he had a turn where I couldn't be charged or really shot at and then he feated. It ended anti-climatically when he found out Kaelyssa has True Sight and a RoF 3 gun...

You have 2 options in my opinion vs denny, kill as much of his stuff as possible before the feat, or have a really sturdy army so you can weather it better. I like to use 3 or 4 heavy jacks against her with enough infantry to screen them. While cryx is good at tricks they still struggle against multiple heavys. I do play menoth however so I laugh at many of her tricks.

My first 20 freakin' games were against her. My buddy and I got the battleboxes at the same time, Cryx for him and Protectorate for me. After the first 6 games ended up with me eating dragon poo, we decided to expand beyond the 'Boxes. I then discovered the Choir. Made things alot simpler.

Yeah the Cryx battlebox also had a 3 point advantage over you... Nifty thing about that is, full Choir is 3 points. Hindsight's a b****, isn't it? XD

B.Knights, Tart, B.Thralls, Parasite, Crippling, Feat, Canker, Withershadow, ripjaw, Gorman bombs(malice/reaper to set it up) it seems like there are alot of options vs. multiple heavies...

Options like Siren are agile, have parry, and shadowbind to deal with heavies in a different way.

Of course! There are always options, and there isn't a list that can dominate all the time. Just makes it a bit easier...
