So, i usually prime my models with black gw primer. I recently started a blood angels army. i first primed them all black and tried painting red. obviously its really hard.

SO. i decided to use white instead. I first used simple green and bought a "plastic primer". After the primer had dried the primer white just literally scraped off.

Next i bought normal white primer by krylon sp?. i simple greened it again and sprayed it again. well its scraping off again.

I DONT KNOW WHY. ITS FRUSTRATING. halp?!

Best guess would be that the model still has residue on it from the simple green. Try giving it a good scrub in soapy water.

Also, for what it's worth, you can get good results painting red over a black base, but you need to work down to it. Black, then Red Gore or Scab Red (I have a feeling one of those two doesn't exist anymore), then the Blood Red.

damn that simple green. isnt that simple if you asked me. but it does do a good job. Yeaahh i used to do mechrite red(foundation) red gore into blood red. but it STILL didnt come out as solid and bright as i wanted it to be. well... thanks again..

while i'm on the subject. how would you do the red over white? also i wanna know how you (the people) paint sanguinary priests. with the white over the red.

scrub down the models in warm soapy water, let them dry then use GW skull white and watered down red gore, then dry brush blood red.

+1 big time on the Army Painter spray primers. I've been using them for just over a year now. The coverage is excellent and the colours are very vivid. I use the Dragon Red primer from them and it gives me that initial brightness straight from the can.

Go on you know you want to, lol.

my 2 copper: mechrite red with blood red over it gives a fairly "animated" tone of red, a soft red if you will.

Blood red over a white primer will be VERY bright and as long as you use a thin wash should come out quite nicely for BA.

Alas, when all else fails, as others have mentioned use a red spray paint in the shade you want.

I myself prefer the rather smooth look of blood red over mechrite on black primer.

With the reds you do need to build up the colour over time IMHO.

For the red on my boyz, i use black undercoat -> mechrite red, which I apply in several thin coats to get a solid base -> red gore (same application as mechrite) until I get a nice strong red -> highlight blood red.
