Hi all. New here to the forum but have been lurking reading articles and such for months. I've been painting and assembling 40k models now for about 6 months. I was hoping to get an answer to a question that has been bothering me as I delve deeper into not just assembling models but getting into army building. I am trying to field a 1750 SM army and I have noticed that there are options in the codex for certain models that I am not finding in the model kits I purchase.

For example I want to put together a combat squad of SM and I have the option of giving the sarge a power fist. The Combat squad box comes with nothing but bolters and no power fist. The same with the CCS Scout box. I can give my sarge a power fist but that is not on the sprues that come with the models.

More annoyingly the expensive Dreadnought kit does not seem to come with several of the gun arm options available under the codex. Twin linked assault cannon? No dice.

Then last night I am checking out the Forge World site and drooling over some of their models when I see an option to purchase a twin linked assault cannon arm. So the question arose. For some options do you have to go outside the model's standard kit to find these add-ons? Do I need to search for bits on EBay and such or am I missing something?

Anyway thanks everyone for any direction you can give me.

Firstly, there is no such thing as a twin-linked assault cannon for dreadnoughts. Secondly, there is a normal assault cannon in the normal dreadnought box (it has about 6 barrels) perhaps your thinking of twin-linked heavy bolters?

Back OT: There are very few boxes containing power fists. I find taking the terminator ones and trimming the shoulder slightly so normal marine shoulder pads will fit works very well. For scouts, you'll want an imperial guard power fist.

Now, there are many bitz site out on the web, but very few of them have stuff in stock. It isn't so much of a problem later on in your gaming/modeling career because you'll have several boxes brim full of bitz/sprues but early on, that's a different question.

I think he's talking about the TL auto cannon (which is a great weapon BTW) and yes you can only get it from Forgeworld unless you convert it from the ageis defence line auto cannons.

The power fists come in: The command squad box, assualt marine box, and the devistator box. you can also find these bitz at the various bitz sites or Ebay.

Getting all the various weapon options can get pricey so I would proxy till you find what you like or what works for u.

Essentially the more kits you buy, the parts you are bounds to come acrossed to add to your bits box. So eventually you will discover the kits that have these options.

The best way to get what you need however is Ebay. There are people on there who sale indiviual parts, whether its a power axe or ammo packs your searching for, you will find it on ebay. This is a great place to go if your looking to customize your army with specific weaponry or extras! In most cases you can pick up enough bits for a tactical squad on ebay and get the pieces you actaully want....in the end its much cheaper too. Good luck

Once GW was happy for you to order the bitz you wanted ... now you get what they sell, its a great loss.
If you want weapons options and don't have it spare the only really way left is to get these metal mini (that or buy a box of the above mentioned).. here are the powerfists

Yep and all of those come as part of a kit as already mentioned
As such you ether buy a kit that has them in it or buy a metal mini ... If you search I'm sure you'll be able to buy a fist somewhere (e-bay) but after P&P i normally would have got more buying the kit whole.

Sorry, I was referring to the TL Autocannon as Grimgob pointed out. Unfortunately as I suspected you guys confirmed for me that I have to do a little shopping around and yes I've noticed a small box of bits that have already started to collect in my work room. I assume it will only get bigger as time goes on.

After 20 years, I had TWO 50l storage tubs of bits (most of it still on sprue).

I now have a 40l tub full of them after a purge (give away).

You accumulate options over time.

SM dreadnoughts HAVE never come with ALL weapon options out of the box. Ever.
