We are please to announce The Sprue Posse invitational!

This special event will be occurring on December 4th and will be the most competitive event in Southern California this year!

This tournament is invite only and slots are awarded to players who qualify from our open tournaments.

Want to participate? You can learn more about our upcoming open tournaments here and here:

When is the tournament?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010.

Where is the tournament?

This tournament will be located at Aero Hobbies and Games in Santa Monica, California.

Who is attending?

This is an invitational tournament and we are extending invites to only the best performers of our tournament circuit for 2010. The Sprue Posse invitational is an 8 slot Swiss tournament with seeded pairings. Invitations are granted to individuals who either win a sanctioned Sprue Posse event. Leftover slots are given to individuals who qualify based on their ELO rating.

What is ELO rating?

ELO rating is a ranking system used in a number of different competitive games like Chess or Magic: The Gathering. Players are awarded points based on victories and docked points based on losses. Beating higher ranked opponents results in great point awards. Full standings are located here. Players with tournament victories are guaranteed a slot. The remaining players are given an invite if they maintain the highest rating to qualify for the remaining slots.

Our current invite list is available here. Note this list is subject to change based on future performance at our remaining open tourneys this year.

What are Seeded Pairings?

Unlike our open tournaments where the first round pairings are selected randomly, this is a seeded tournament where the top ranked player will meet to lowest ranked player in the first round. The second rank will meet the seventh rank. The third rank the sixth and so on.

What is the format?

It is a 2000 point tournament. The format for the Sprue Posse Invitational will be standard book missions randomly selected on the day of the tournament. There will be seeded Swiss pairings. INAT FAQ will be used, and unpainted WYSWYG models allowed.

When are formal invitations being extended?

We will extend formal invitations to this tournament after our last open tournament of the year at the end of October.

What is the entry fee?

Since this is an invitational tournament, entry is free.

What is the prize support?

This tournament is a winner take all best general tournament. Prize support will be generous product offering along with a trophy or plaque.

My name isn't on the invite list. How do I change that?

Come out and participate in our remaining open tournament and either win it outright or win enough games to push your rating high enough to get an invitation.

Our schedule for the remainder of the year:

Sprue Posse Open #6 - Saturday, October 23rd
Sprue Posse Invitational - Saturday, December 4th

We hope you see you at any and all of these upcoming tournaments!

Just to clarify since someone asked:

The qualifiers are 1500 points.

The invitational is 2000 points.

I'm proud to announce that this tournament is now a sanctioned qualifier for the NOVA invitational in 2011.

What does that mean? It means if you win our invitational in December you get a ticket to their exclusive invitational next August and a chance to compete for cash prizes with 32 of the best 40k players in the country!

More details here.

This is the invitational Reecius. It's an 8 man tournament being held in December. It is full.

There are slots available for our Grand Prix being held in January though. That's a two day GT event.

You know, I'd be a lot more inclined to go to one of these sprue posse events if the venue were a bit bigger. I don't mind the drive, but it always seems like these things fill up really fast.

Just throwing that out there.

We'll probably start hosting some of these in a larger space to accommodate 4 more people. I have a schedule up for next year on the site and I'll keep you guys posted on where they will be held (either Aero Hobbies or Dragon's Den Games).

Our Sprue Posse Grand Prix is a 2 day GT in January and that is a 24 slot tournament and we have some tickets still available. You can sign up via paypal on our site.

Sad to see 40k being turned into a MtG-like tournament game.

Will trade 1 Etherial for 1 He'Stan, NM

Why is that sad phototoxin? Not that I think it's actually happening but if it were why would it be sad? Because you could still have a beer and pretzels game while other people have a tournament game. All it does is make the rules tighter, increase the revenue of the company, and increase their longevity which I'd think we'd all be a fan of.

Aye ... what's the gist of the point there? How dare people enjoy it differently than I think it should be enjoyed? Kind of conceited.

Thanks Hulk I was just lucky thats all. all the leaders lost the first game and I didnt have to face that nasty leaf blower list Sharktikon brought (and you wernt there so it doesnt count right ).

@Phototoxin
They dont hold competitive events in england.... I thought thats what the ETC was. I had a great day with three fun games aginst three great people who also post here on Dakka. I beat two people who have previously beat me, I was proud of those games and they were both noncontentious and curtious games. I tied a great Blood Angels player whome I've never played before who was also great guy to play and brought a rock hard list. Everyone had fun even Yakface was there. On top of that your Mtg refrence is mute because the Etherial isnt worth that much in trade since the unlimited edition came out. I'm sorry you feel that way but come on, I'm a member of the Dakka casual gaming mafia and I won... How crazy competitve could it have been

LoL, wait who is ducking who here?

I expect both of you at the Grand Prix in January.

It's not. I'm just running our tournaments that way. It's also voluntary association over here. Nobody is being forced to play it this way. People just like to. And playing it this way doesn't mean you can't play it as a casual games day. There is still plenty of that going on around here too. It's so common in fact that I decided to start our tournament circuit in the first place; because competitive tournaments simply didn't exist.

And I still lost to Grimgob in the pseudo-finals (4 players were 1-0-1, yay capture and control against a parking lot). Time to go back to Tau, where when I lose I have an excuse!
