Hey everyone, I bought this prince 2 weeks ago, first day it came out. I've been steadily working on it and I finally finished it last night (I'm going to the local GW daemon prince painting contest later today actually). I just thought I would share it since there really havent been that many topics on the new prince.

It's great the way it is, but consider doing lightening on it after the fashion of the Night Lord's armour.

The wings are my favorite part of this model. I can't really see anything wrong with it, although I agree with Nurglitch's suggestion of the NL lightning. Good luck with the painting contest

Well I didn't win. I am extremely thankful I didn't as apparently the only other people who bought a daemon prince from this store were kids. I would definitely prefer they win something they need or cant pay for, and there was excellent effort in theirs.

The situation reminded me of the Frank Grimes episode of the Simpsons where Homer enters the power plant contest for children. After Homer wins, Grimes shouts "He entered a contest for children!!" and Lenny replies "Yea, and Homer beat their brains out". Just thought that was funny.

I hope in the future they have the "young blood" category that gamesday has, so adults can compete against each other.

Anyways, as for the replies, thanks everyone.

Irdium - I agree that the heads were all poor. This was the lesser of the evils.

Nurglitch - I was thinking about it, and I think I do pretty good lightning (very thin and smooth instead of the clumpiness you often see), but Im worried it will take away from the clean look and Ill F up my prince. Ill sleep on it.

Tempus - There are actually a few things I already fixed after looking at these pics. On one of the wing pics there was some blue that leaked down into the black/red a bit. I also forgot to highlight his right hand. But ofcourse, no one is as critical as myself so I doubt anyone saw it.

Night Lords:

If you're worried about being able to pull it off, then it might be something to see if you can dig up a tutorial from someone who has pulled it off; but I can certainly commisserate about not wanting to ruin perfectly servicable paint-jobs with painting techniques I can't actually pull off!

Stunning. Absolutely the right colours in the right places. If you don't mind my asking, what paints did you use for the blue? And could you maybe do a brief explanation of how you painted the wings? I've got a huge backlog of winged models and yours turned out great.

I love it, I would rate it 9.5 out of 10!

Blue is Regal blue, Enchanted blue and Enchanted blue mixed with a bit of Ice blue in just a few places. It really comes down to the Asurman blue wash though.

For example, on the shoulder pads it is black up against the gold, followed by regal blue, enchanted blue washed to blend (darker towards the edges) and then enchanted blue again, and finally the mix (such as around the black arrows on his right pad). Obviously it is chaos black for the cracks between muscles.

The wings are:

Very top - 1/3 Chaos black, 2/3 Blood red with a Badab black wash

Top - 1/3 Chaos black, 2/3 Blood red

Middle - Blood red wet blended into the above mix

Mid Bottom - Blazing orange wet blended into Blood red above.

Almost Bottom - 2/3 Blazing orange 1/3 Sunburst yellow wet blended into the above

Bottom - 1/2 Blazing orange 1/2 Sunburst yellow

Then Badab black with a bit of Chaos black on the bottom to make it look like burnt paper.

The wet blending is key.

The wings are awesome and I love how the very edges of them look almost burnt.
The blue is eye poppingly bright and I just really love this paint job. I feel self-conscious of my painting now

Wicked man, thanks. I'm off to research wet blending! I usually just use a few stages of layering and extreme highlighting on my minis, so that's probably why I'm having trouble on wings.
