Being cheap like I am. I decided that the money needed for a proper waagh was way too much for me.

To that end, I decided that I had more time than money and decided to make myself a paper waagh. Whyle my fellow players initially scoffed at my "Tube" army. They have since come to realize that because of it, I have practically everything in the Ork Codex, then some.

I decided I would share the files with you guys here. Enjoy!
File Folder: http://www.mediafire.com/?2iz1ibjbghluh" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://www.mediafire.com/?2iz1ibjbghluh

All files are in .pptx format.

Please keep in mind that all figures and models are designed to be simply Print>Cut>Glue>Play. The vehicles ARE NOT designed to mimic the look of a WWG style ork model. They will be recognizable for what they are, but they will not win any beauty contests. This also means that the models are "smooth." The models have textures printed on the pattern. Unfortunately this means unless you have photoshop/ppt skills, you will not be able to add in alot of customization unless you glue on spare parts. However, if you are on the cheap like I am, it works and works well.

Included:

Ork Paper Army: Includes tube proxies of every ork figurine in the codex. Base size when rolled and glued should approximate the standard base size. I use tubes instead of paper cutouts because tubes allow for better LOS (I.E. 3d tube vs 2d cutout.) Heights may not be perfect, but the tubes are perfectly usable, just remember if you can see the tube, you can see the model.

Big Gunz: This file contains what amounts to a big metal looking cannon. The original shape WAS an enlarged cannon from a paper galleon. This shape has been re-skinned to give it a metallic look. Its not the prettiest figure on the table, but it will get the job done.

Truck: Yes, its the Ork Trukk! This figure will resemble a flat-bed truck when complete. It actually has enough room to hold 10 25mm tube figures. Not quite the 12 That its supposed to.

Battlewagon: This is probably the most complex of the paper models. Its body comes in 3 sections. And has parts for 3 variations of deffrolla. There is a simple steam-rolla, a 3-rotary saw blade -rolla, and a combine thresher style rolla.

Tank: This model is a fairly simple looking tank. Its mildly comical looking with a gun a bit too big for it, but works well as a Looted Wagon, or as grot tanks.

Pulsa Rokkit This monstrosity stands over a foot high when complete. Its designed to be free standing, as such, it does not have the launcher as seen in the book. Oddly enough (pure coincidence) it seems to fit pretty well if layed into a Trukk.

While not in this set of downloads, I am also working on an Ork Stompa.

I'm redesigning my Deff Dread and my Killa Kans as they just weren't working. I have yet to figure out a decent way to do Bikes, Buggies, or Trakks.

Pictures will follow, but I must get to my storage place with the camera. Since this storage place is at the play table at a friends house, It will be a little bit of time.

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions on a specific vehicle's construction, feel free to ask. I can probably provide a decent explanation to any question.

Thanks!

That's pretty much what its designed for . I wanted something that was fairly simple to put together (the battle wagons take me about 1 1/2-2 hours) was inexpensive, and yet was not going to be an embarassment to put out on the table.

Given my Win/Loss/Draw record at the local table, I have absolutely 0 interest in joining up with any sort of tourney.

One plus side I haven't found a need for, is that if you need to single out a specific model from an entire horde (such as which 3 boys carries the rokkit Launchas) is to simply mark those units with a simple colored Paperclip.

Not anytime soon. In fact, purchasing isn't even in my vocabulary. The amount of stuff I've proxied would cost a small fortune to have IRL:

3 battle wagons
6 Trukks
9 Big Gunzz (stand-ins for any of Lobba, ZZap or Kannon)
1 Pulsa Rokkit
1 Stompa (Design not ready to publish)
2 Looted Wagons
3 Killa Kans (design not ready to publish)
1 Deff Dread (Design not ready to publish)
15 Burna Boys
15 Kommandos
30 Lootas
15 Storm Boys
10 Nobs
12 Mega Nobs
15 Tank Bustas
6 Meks
6 Pain boys
6 Runt-herds
6 Squigs
20 Grots
1 War Boss
1 Big Mek
1 Weirdboy/Warphead
1 Gazthul Thrakka
1Mad Doc Grotznik
1 Boss Snikrot
1 Boss Zagstruk
15 Flash Gitz

You total all of that up, and I have no intention of spending it.

MS PowerPoint 2007+

poipo32 wrote:The tanks look good but the tube boyz not so much, and they are not friend with TLOS.

The biggest issue with TLOS is finding the right "eye level". Other than that, the rule with the tubes is that if you can see the tube you can see the model. It givest the Tube user a small disadvantage (as generally the unit is mostly within the confines of the base), but is over-all fairer than using a 2d version of the ork unit. Having played a number of games with the tubes, TLOS does not come up very often as an issue. The key, though, is to ignore the picture on the tube for LOS, and just use the tube itself.

And the dirty little secret is that the tubes can be used for almost any army. I think the Carnifex might pose more of a problem though, they are just to oddly shaped. They don't fit the right on the tube, and still provide "fair" TLOS based on the model.

I've also used the Tube premesis to do the entirety of the models from the Wyrd Games Malifaux main book.

I think its awesome man, even better if it makes some uber nerds mad. While it would be a no go for a tourny of any sort, I think it is great for friendly games.

IMO they look kinda stupid >.>

I know some people only want to play the game side and not paint them in some way but id rather have an unpainted model than a piece of paper. expensive?? yes it is.

But id rather get some weird looks for unpainted models than weird looks for bits of paper.

Thats my opinion anyway.

Gd idea for all those that dont want to fork out vast amounts of cash tho.

I like it, and it's tremendously better than alot of the other proxy armies I've played against. It's much better than random junk or other faction models, which is the usual proxy material. At least it looks like an ork army, and is more or less WYSIWYG. Too bad you only have orks made up. I don't really need to proxy anything for orks.

I might complain that those tubes guys are B&W. I'll only play against colored tube guys

True. The download has colored orks. When I made and printed out what I've showed, I had an Ink Jet. It drank more ink than an Irishman booze on St Patty's day. So I went B/W. I haven't bothered to take the time to re-print my tubes, as B/W works just fine.

That's cool. I want to get some games of Necromunda going out here and was planning on just using little counters/coins to represent the characters since my gang isn't done yet and the other guys who'd be interested don't have any models (they play DnD, not miniature games) but tubular paper characters would be even better.

I very rarely see a fully painted army outside of tournaments nowadays BTW. Then again there really aren't any GWs left in CT (that I know of) and they were the only place that really cared. Most people's armies are in some sort of flux and a good majority of the ones I see at the local store are completely unpainted so I doubt he'd get any strange looks for unpainted models in my area.

A paper army would most likely get people upset though if they didn't know that's what you were bringing before hand, but I think he already stated that it's for friendly games only. In any event I'd play him. Those BWs look pretty good.

If you are truly interested in doing paper models, I recommend purchasing a set of 110lb cardstock. A set of 500 sheets will run 12-13 bucks at office depot, and probably less elsewhere. That's more than enough to build everything I've put together. The cardstock holds up much better than plain copy paper.

Also, if you are interested in paper terrain, I suggest http://www.worldworksgames.com. They have tons of stuff that spans fantasy, modern, and sci-fi genres. Though I will warn you, paper modeling is another hobby in and of itself.

No, it's not. The vehicles are not GW designs, and it would be difficult to prove that the orks are a misuse of GW's photos rather than the OP's.

That said, I'm not a fan. There's nothing wrong with papercraft models (I'm in the process of building a Repressor, myself), but the vehicles would be better with a higher polygon count, and the orks would be better represented by actual 3d models.

I'm a big fan of cardstock terrain and vehicles, and have built a LOT myself for other games. But the tube-orks push my limits of acceptance. My Philosophy was to put together something quick and relatively simple. My main goal is to play, I could really care less about the building/painting half of the hobby. I'm not an artistic person, and as such, I went with streamline. If I really had to, I could probably rebuild my entire force from scratch in about 20 hours or less. That quickness is something I'm proud of. My main goal was for models to be fairly recognizable for what they are. These work for that quite well.

The tubes are a very workable, albeit cheap solution.

Wow, Awesome Idea!

I might do something similar, At the place where I play Warhammer, they have an RC car track. I have always wanted to race RC cars but I am too cheap to spend hundreds of dollars on a functional RC car... And since Anyone should have whatever they want, I am going to print out a paper Racecar, tie a string to it and run around the track dragging my paper car around making 'vrooom vroooom' noises! Finally i can participate with those RC car races! And those ignorant fools spent all that money for what I could do basically for free, the dumb jerks.

Who cares about having fun at other peoples expenses, it is not like these hobbies are social in nature and I actually have to interact with others as I do everything I can to ruin their good time by crapping all over their hobby and demanding to be included in their social activities and no one could possibly dislike or be upset with it.

If only I could also figure out how to participate in the RC airplane hobby without spending money and using only paper... maybe someone will invent an airplane out of paper.
