come on guys convince me to play orks, I'm trying to start a new army and I'm not sure which way to go? I was thinking daemons but after some moral crusading I thought about Orks, as they're not really evil they just have fun hurtin' stuff! my only stoppage point is that i'm not a huge fan of vehicles, so if there's a way to play without that many?? but I do love the rocket pack guys, any advice would be great maybe some dreads and rocket guys... I dunno

You iz mukkin about! go split a blackreach box, and learn to love huge mobs of boyz, infiltrating rokkit deffkoptas and the sheer madness of charging all the way across the board under heavy fire to hit someone with your choppa- which is always slower than a space marine, and usually weaker!

There is a great deal of joy in an army that is on the table because they love blowing things up, blowing each other up, and being blown up.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!! not enough for you? Have some numbers.

1140 points = 186 wounds worth of orks, scoring units.
... = 372 S4 shots at 18"... approximately 124 hits, etc.

675 points = 45 lootas putting out 45 to 135 'autocannon' shots (S7, AP4), hitting with 15 to 45... always in range.

660 points = 192 wounds worth of gretchin, scoring units.

405 points = 9 walkers, each firing two s6 blasts at 18" (BS3)

If nothing else they are fun to put together. Ain't no army out there were you can kit-bash as much as with orks, I guarantee.

They cans cause a lot of damage on the way across the board even with bs 2 and footsloogin. This is because the orks is the best.

Because even if you lose ten games in a row, your likely to kill a Terminator with a Gretchin at some point.

so realistically can i have an Ork army with, lets say, Kommando's, rokkit guys, and boys and not have transport or am I waaaaaaaah-ing up the wrong tree, i just really don't go for the vehicles like some people-fungi?

The only vehicle I have is a Leman Russ which I have modded to a Battlewagon, on the Elite Front I have Kommandos with Snikrot, Tank Bustas and Nobs, the rest is nobs and one group of five Flashgitz, works perfectly fine.

Hmmm Vargtass you're starting to bend me towards them.... or I can do a 13th company wolves army all in forgeworld armour with maxmini heads.... or i can do an ork army.... or i can be confused..... how much will be potentially plastic for me? i'm not keen on metal either, I know i'm picky :-)

If you're looking for an army that is, simply, fun to play... Dude, you just can't beat Orks.
Presuming you're not using vehicles...
In a 2000 point game, you'll probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 or more models on the table.
Granted, when they're shot at, it becomes a kind of "scoop-fest... but that's pointed in. Your basic boy is 6 freaking points!
You can get a mob of 30 boys (one is a Nob with Power Klaw & a bosspole - to reroll Ld) for a bit more than 200 points. With AoBR kits so common out there, you can score tons of boyz on the cheap, too.
Take 4 units of boys like that, and you're looking at less than 1000 points... and 120 models! : )
See if you can find someone who has Orks that will let you play them a time or 2. They're a blast!

This is the truth and a majority of the orks range is in plastics.

You sure can! tons of ork foot slogging army is known as the green tide. This is made especially easy since AOBR gives you plenty of boys and nobs

Recommend you find a Green Tide box instead though, since it will be cheaper than buying alot of AoBR boxes. Plus the fact that I think the models in AoBR are sub-par compared to the current Ork plastics.

alright then looks like i'll do some more research and see if i can find me a green tide of fun to swamp my mates with! i'm not telling them what i'm doing either it's a suprise, i did the same when Nids came out with the new stuff, I spent $1000 on new models nd battleforces so when my mate came over for a nerdfest game he thought he was playing my wolves...you should have seen his face when I whipped out my Trygon and slapped it on the table!

If you want to build an army of individuals that drive around in a convoy of customised vehicles, play Orks. If you want to build an army of daemons that don't need to be summoned into the material world, play WHFB.

Convince you to play orks? If you need convincing to play orks, you have no soul. They're the best of all armies.

If you like converting, you can go completely nuts.

You can make them shooty or fighty, or shooty and fighty, or fighty and shooty. Or fast and shooty, or fast and fighty, or fast and shooty and fighty.

Where else can your battle plan revolve around driving your tanks into their tanks?

If you are asking us to convince you to play orks, and you cannot think of any other army to play then quite clearly you need no convincing!


I am currently using a 1000pt list with no vehicles, total body count 80 models!, and that is considered pretty low but I like to have tooled-up nobz (all pks, all cybork, all bad-ass!)

I'll give you 3 reasons to play orks:
Stormboyz are such nice models to make, then paint, then watch as they get shot on the turn they deepstrike!
It's great to lose half a unit, and wipe the smug grin off your opponents face as you calmly say 'so what' and then charge, at which point he finds out that it is still lethal in CC!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

niiice zero, nice, actually it was the new storm boyz models that made me consider them thar Orks in the first place! I just think the models rock, so even if I don't commit my sanity to the green tide i'll def be painting up some for my gallery! oh and i love the fact they'd get nailed as soon as they deep strike, that suits my style of play.....lul them into a false sense of security, then.......lul them some more....... then WHAMMO! I lose!

Only reason I needed to start planning an ork army... was the number of comical one liners you can use from WC3 for banners etc.... "Me not that kinda orc!"..
