so part of the theme for my army is that they have very little working equipment or it has been hastily repaired/improved despite the warnings from the tech-marine about the machine-god. i had an idea for a drop pod where it would essentially be a crashed spaceship or shuttle of some sort. this is both hopefully a way to make some drop pods on the cheap and to make something thematically relevant to my army. i was looking for some suggestions of model kits to look at or tricks for making these.

Uhh, what is your chapter, the Shoddy Marines?
I don't like the idea, but its your army, do as you please.

Interesting idea, its different. As for modeling I would be careful as to not make it look to orky. Ramshackling the wrong way could make it look to orky. But as for the look im not 100%. I would start with modern day spaceship models and go from there. Maybe even kitbash up some from a Baneblade. Enough plastic there you could come up with something. There was a post a while back where someone posted a link for a printable drop pod. Very simple design, four sided pyramid with a door/ramp. I plan on using them for my Word Bearers (built using the SW codex).

heres the link http://louistaylor.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/how-to-make-your-own-free-warhammer-40k-drop-pod-from-scratch/

I made an easy and cheap drop pod out of plumbing parts. You need a rounded endcap. Let me see if I can find a tutorial.

You're going to want to use some automotive primer and some bits to fix it up proper. It was less then $5 in parts as I recall.

Something was wrong with the link (redirect?) so I removed it. Thanks! ~Manchu

Just remember that now that there are official drop pods, you have to use those, or conversions following GW's rules ( 50%-70% GW parts, has to start as a GW model...)

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

i dont play tournaments and i play with a pretty laid back crowd so im not going to let the rules's demand that i buy name-brand products to play a game stifle my creativity.
