Subject: New Orks list "5 Wagon Double Nobz" - 2,000 points
|
 |
Tower of Power
|
Recently I've found out 5 Lootas in a unit aren't too bad so I'm giving them more praise. I have two units of Lootas and two units are staying but one unit has 13 Lootas the other 12. If I chop these down to min size units (5) that will give me 225 points to play with.
I don't mind losing a Deffkopter either. If I get first turn I will alpha strike them but I often find I only really have two viable targets so the third Deffkopter is just floating around attacking the same target as another. Drop a 'Kopter gives me 70 points to play with.
All my Battlewagons are kitted up the same; big shoota, boarding plank and reinforced ram. Big shoota has to stay or else my Wagons become immobilised that turns to wrecked. Boarding plank is very very handy for tackling vehicles without exposing my infantry. Only points to shave off is the ram, it's saved my bacon twice and I don't have it in other armies so I don't think I'll miss this. A total of 20 points saved here.
To shave off more points I'll ditch the Big Meks power klaw and give him a burna instead, he's I4 on the charge and 4 power weapon attacks are cooler I think, especially when there's two power klaws in the unit already. I can also shave more points by ditching kombi skorcha from the Warboss, I rarely use it and I only put it on because the model has a twin-linked shoota and I'd rather have a guranteed hit with a template than crappy shooting.
The existing Nobz unit has 6 Nobz plus a Painboy, these go with the Warboss. What I can do is shave a Nob off these saving me 25 points.
My total saving now is 300 points if my maths is correct.
With all the spare points I've now done this:
HQ
Warboss - power klaw, attack squig, cybork body, bosspole & eavy armour
Big Mek - burna, kustom force field, cybork body & eavy armour
Elite
5 x Nobz w/ Battlewagon - power klaw, 3 x big choppas, bosspole, waaagh! Banner, Painboy - Wagon w/ big shoota & boarding plank
6 x Lootas
6 x Lootas
Troops
6 x Nobz w/ Battlewagon - power klaw, 4 x big choppas, bosspole, waaagh! Banner, ammo runt & Painboy - Wagon w/ big shoota & boarding plank
20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole
20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole
20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole
Fast Attack
Deffkopter - twin-linked rokkits & buzzsaws
Deffkopter - twin-linked rokkits & buzzsaws
Heavy Support
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
Total: 2,003
Ok I'm over by 3 points, cry me a river, it's only for a proxy ammo Grot which gives BS2 to re-roll anyway.
Looking at the list I've now got Big Mek with 4 power weapon attacks on the charge, a extra Battlewagon making a total of 5 and another tough eilte unit which can tackle pretty much anything and claim me objectives still. I've lost 13 Lootas in total but I've still go two units of 6 which can deliver 18 shots per unit, which isn't bad.
Previously I had 94 Orks in the list now I've got 85, a loss of 9 Orks which is hardly gronud breaking. Throw in a Deffkopter too.
Choices choices hey, change the list and purchase more models and painting or leave it as it is because it's tried and tested?

Why don't you have armour plates on the wagons? For 10pts I think they're well worth it.
Also, why does the Mek have a Burna? He shouldn't be in CC, Don't encourage him.

Because wagons are open topped which is +1 on the vehicle damage chart, Wagons aren't going to take much 1 results really.
What happens if the Mek gets blown out his transport and gets caught in combat because he's a I.C? Oh yeah he dies. I don't want him in combat, but it's just in case and without vehicles to protect what use is the Mek. Burna is the cheaper of the klaw.

They'll take as much "1" results as any other as its based on a dice roll, If you're opponent rolls a one and you've plates then you get to move again and crush him with the rollas (Where are they?!?!?!?). I don't really understand your argument here. Unless you're on about melta that is.
With the Mek, he'll just die in combat anyway, with or without a burna, except without a burna you've saved 20pts on a dead model. Spend that on a rolla.

First thing that is mandatory is cutting the list down 3 points. 2000 point limit means you stop at 2000. Now onto the list. 1. Battlewagons: With the new ruling that Deff Rollas work against vehicles, there exist little reason why they should not be taken. An acceptible substitute is the Boarding Plank and Grabin Klaw combo. 2. Nobz: The power gained by making them complex is just too great to ignore. For a 5 Nob squad, it is simply done by gettting a Painboy, Waaagh! Banner, Boss Pole, Powerklaw, and a normal guy. If you want to add more points to it, give the normal, bosspole, and banner nob an uge choppa. In addition, decide on their target. This will determine if you need cybork body or 'eavy armor. (Double Checked the list and found the Nobz Complexed, very good.) 3. Big mek: Their main purpose is to give your 5 vehicles a 4+ cover save. If you were running a 10 Nob squad, I could see giving him a burna. 4. The Warboss: He is alright the way he is, but I could see him doing a lot more damage on a bike by himself. This way you have 6 targets and 2 primary targets instead of 5 and 1 respectively. 5. Deff Koptas: I love deff Koptas and think that they are fine... Just keep in mind that you effectively start the game 2Kp behind with little garuntee that you get them back. 6. Lootas: Keep in mind the following question. What is your target? 5 is a nice number for going after Av 11,12 vehicles as you distrupt them. The extra Loota is nice but I would add them last if you can afford it.

That's true they would but it doesn't happen all that often. Don't need deffrollas, put's my tank into melta range, I'm doing my opponent a favour. As mentioned, don't need plates because +1 on damage chart because open topped and those armour plates won't get used that much.
No he won't. My Mek has seen combat planet of times and had a fight with some Damonettes at a tournament, giving him no weapon makes him dead even quicker and then no KFF - bad idea.
QuietOrkmi wrote:

Cutting 3 points isn't mandatory, it's used in friendly games and what's 3 points? Re-roll to hit on BS2? Think I've said this before... Only needs to be 2k in tournament games.
Now onto the list.
1. Battlewagons: With the new ruling that Deff Rollas work against vehicles, there exist little reason why they should not be taken. An acceptible substitute is the Boarding Plank and Grabin Klaw combo.
Deffrollas have been working on Wagons for ages, it's nothing new. I don't take rollas because I don't rate them and I'm driving my tank straight into melta range; I'm doing my opponents work for them!
2. Nobz: The power gained by making them complex is just too great to ignore. For a 5 Nob squad, it is simply done by gettting a Painboy, Waaagh! Banner, Boss Pole, Powerklaw, and a normal guy. Thanks for providing me that uesless bit of info.... . I have been playing Orks quite some time you know....
3. Big mek: Their main purpose is to give your 5 vehicles a 4+ cover save. If you were running a 10 Nob squad, I could see giving him a burna.
I know what Big Meks do, thanks for patronising me again . Already explained why got burna....
4. The Warboss: He is alright the way he is, but I could see him doing a lot more damage on a bike by himself. This way you have 6 targets and 2 primary targets instead of 5 and 1 respectively.
Sending a single model out on it's own is the worst advice and thing you can give/do. Where's his support? He will get targetted instantly and gunned down. Extremely bad idea.
5. Deff Koptas: I love deff Koptas and think that they are fine... Just keep in mind that you effectively start the game 2Kp behind with little garuntee that you get them back.
I'm glad you told me that, never realised that...
6. Lootas: Keep in mind the following question. What is your target? 5 is a nice number for going after Av 11,12 vehicles as you distrupt them. The extra Loota is nice but I would add them last if you can afford it.
I know what my target is, have you read my post at all? You're asking what my target for Lootas, telling me about assorted Nobz and other things. I don't wanna sound like a gakker but next time consider feedback you're giving and check the list as well, ideas and things you've said aren't good or already been mentioned..

hmmm I sensed that coming.. QuietOrkmi you didn't quite get that post right :( Anyway the biker warboss on his own is actually not a bad option. He is no more alone than the deffkoptas you send out and is A LOT more resilient. Damage wise he can take out a squad of MEQ by himself or can hit hard enough to bring down a LR. Survivability wise he gets his 3+ cover save when out in the open or if your opponent has a heavy gun line you keep him out of LOS behind the Battlewagons till it's time to assault.

I'm gonna argue for taking Deffrollas too here. If you want to get your boyz into assault, you'll have to drive into melta range too. Why not do some extra damage while you're there?

NOt really than the Deffkopters because the 'Kopters have got unit redudnancy and multiple threat, kill a Kopter I've still got enough. Send a single Warboss what happens? He will get torrented with everything to stop that fearful S10 power klaw getting close.
I would only take him with other Warbikers, which isn't possible. I could also dettach him from the unit later when the coast is clear for him

Not really for the Boyz, Wagon moves 12" Boyz get out 2" run 6" assault 6" which is 26" - far from melta range . Deffrollas put them straight in. I've used rollas before, they're not for me.

Well considering you'll be assaulting units about 12" away from you, chances are that you'll be in melta range, you might as well take rollas then, it'll provide your opponent with a tough choice. Shoot the nobs that just destroyed one of his squads or shoot the Wagon lining up to squish his tanks. It may take some heat off the Nobs which is what you want.
As for the Mek I understand your logic for giving him a Burna, it will increase his chances of survival in CC, but only if he charges (gaining the furious charge bonus and extra attack), and then the real question you've to ask yourself is why on earth is he charging anything? Don't encourage yourself to put a below par character into CC, he will just die, even if he charges his chances are not great (4 attacks at I4 and ST 5, you'll be lucky to kill more than 2). Unless he's with the nobs, but any player worth his salt will target the Mek for easier combat res.
Maybe if you want to use the burna as a flamer for softing up squads that other mobs are lining up to assault then I'd say take it, buts it's still over priced for that.
In the end though if you're just using this list for friendly games then I suppose take whatever you want, for serious tournament play however, I'm still not convinced.
Mookie
[Edit] Just had a look at your reply to claypool concering dethrollas. How do you figure 26" for an assault range? That is best case scenario (unless you take Ghaz), you have to think about what happens when you roll a 1 for your Waagh!, that only gives you a 9" assault range. (meaning your wagon is only 9" from the enemy, check your maths).
Also have you thought about your opponent simply driving up next to your wagons, jumping out and then using their meltas? Happens a lot. Most of the time these days actually. Thats why I think its best to give him the tough choice of Wagons or Nobs.

So if its not big deal and you can cut the points easily, why are you taking it? This attitude of going over the point limit is really weird to me.
Is it okay if I upgrade a special weapon and go 5 or 10 points over? How about take an extra marine and go 20? Or maybe round out that landspeeder squadron and go over by a cool 70 points. I mean 70 pts is only 3.5% of the 2000 points already in the list, so its not a big deal right? 3.5 is after all a pretty small number.
Does any of this rationalizing make sense? No, but I keep finding ways to do it.
/boggle
In other news, This list would be WAY more scary if they all had deffrollas. Looking pretty good already, but deffrollas would make it go from good to great.

Mercer has mentioned his Melta/Deffrolla arguement before in previous threads. I still don't really understand his logic. If you are close enough to assault out of a vehicle then you are close enough to be melta-ed. You might as well get in really close and shoot instead of trying to run into assault range. I don't see much reason to dance out at the edge and maybe miss your run roll to get into assault. As mentioned before there is no Ghaz in this list.
I can understand the arguement that people don't want to take deffrollas because they cause alot of rule arguement headaches, but not because they want to avoid melta weapons. Assault Ork armies shouldn't be dancing around the enemy IMO. They should be crashing into their lines.

I love people who ask for an opinion on a list and then argue with every point that everyone makes. If you think your roster is so perfect, don't post it, and don't ask what people think of it.
Sure, you've been playing Orks for "quite some time", whatever that means. That doesn't mean you can't play it better. I'm not going to bother offering advice because you don't listen. You've been too busy defending what you've already got.

I think the consensus is that deffrollas are pretty much necessary for a list of this type. I haven't seen any convincing arguments against them and I believe they are Orks' #1 Anti-AV14 weapon.
With 5 Deffrollas, I'd be comfortable dropping the Lootas and beefing up my Nobz. 5 Deffrollas/Boarding Planks, as well as 2 Buzzkoptas should be able to handle any reasonable amount of tanks.

Sorry about the beating a dead horse info... I was tired when I wrote it and thought you were posting on someone else's list... (that is what I get for not reading names only looking at avatars, heh...)
Anyway, the Deffrolla/melta argument is intriguing, The assault range for lads in a battlewagon is 12" (battlewagon Movement) 2" (disembark) and then 6" (assault)... He (mercer) is stating that the range on a Deff Rolla is 12" a range known as you get melta'd and thus die, while the range for assaulting is 20", way out of melta...
He is using the boarding planks instead of the deff rollas because they both do the same thing (blow up vehicles without the ladz dying), this way he is saving 15 x 5 points to spend on other things... interesting... very interesting...
The lone figure is not so much a target when everything is going the same speed, however in a footsloggin list, I am inclined to agree with you regarding unit saturation...
About the whole 2000 vs 2003 point thing, people assume that the list is for tourneys thats all...

It's the meltagun range I was getting wrong. I was thinking only multi-meltas in my head, not the 12"/6" meltagun (Forgive me I play orks primarily. Though I don't see how this helps against Multi-Meltas since he'll just drive up to the 12" melta range next turn unless you pulled it off perfectly even then it's assuming he has to move combat speed to deliver the melta attack). Though you are going to have the same problem if you use the boarding planks so I don't think this is really the debate. The debate is the points savings for using the tried and true boarding planks rather than upgrading to DRs.
Sure if you have a boarding plank warboss you can get 3 or so str 10 attacks. I mean that's what we did before the deff rolla faq. They need to hit, and most of the time the target vehicle will be moving so as to not make that easy for you. I'm just saying that d6 str 10 autohits is better. You don't have to muck about with the boarding plank (and grabba klawif you were so inclined and I was previously) and your BW can do it while your boyz are stuck in combat. Also it really stops people from wanting to do DoG attacks against you, which is nice if you like to push infantry around with your tanks.

You can get six S10 attacks every turn with a Warboss and Boarding Plank. Just FYI...
I still think Deffrollas are needed.

Ok a few things as I can't post properly on my iPhone.
As already mentioned a big mek has a burns to defend himself in combat, how do you get rid of a kff? Assault the mek in combat single him out and kill him, with a Burma that job is harder. I once said a big mek doesn't need a burns put once popped out that wagon you can kill the mek and no wagons get cover.
As mentioned already tried deffrollas and don't like them, I drop looted no ranged anti tank very bad idea. When I used rollas my opponents would let me come to them and then move out and use meltas, the bane of wagons. With a deffrolla I'm forced to go to my enemy or wasting that wargear.
As for points it's 3 points to whoever is being sarcastic about adding several marines and land speeded is taking the piss. There's a big differenece between 3 points and 70 points, that argument and example is stupid.
As for feedback, I only listen to good suggestions and will be defence to crap ones. Good suggestions have been few and far between only from the people I'd expect them to come from anyway Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok just been doing some adding up and if my maths is right I can get rollas on all vehicles and everything else for 2,005. I've dropped a single nob and 2 lootas along with boarding planks.
If I lose I'm blaming you guys :p though someone made a valid point about hitting with planks though autohit with rollas.

The point stands, though... you can't bring a 2,005 point list to a 2,000 point game. You'll have to drop something, and you've got plenty of places to do it.

Can you fit 5 Wagons under 1 KFF? I'd assume so if they are lined up side by side, which also makes getting side shots a lot harder.
The only issue I have is the lack of firepower, you only have a few lootas, meaning you must be able to destroy vehicles with assault reliably. That can be done, but I would agree that Deffrollas would help a lot, because his melta can move, so if your moving up to assault at all they can probably hit you with it. You will have to use good target priority and hope for some good KFF rolls to avoid destruction of you tanks.

yea...... deff rollas are good. Also, what is the point of possibly pissing people off for a 3pt ammo grunt that doesnt even serve a purpose..... it's not like there's even a strong weapon to use it on or anything..... also, since i know flipping out at me will be your next post if any of the others to go by, i might as well add that the burna is a waste of points....its almost as much as a deffrolla! would you rather have 6 auto-pens coming at a rhino full of termie's butt, or 4 s5 attacks? think about it. if you like burnas, take burna boys. Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and might i add that what is the point of the KFF mech in close combat? obviously the orks have already gotten close enough to be in close combat, so he no longer serves a purpose.... also, a burna doesnt make him more resilient, it makes him kill a couple things... big deal.... MEQ still swing at same time, and things like genestealers kill him first... Automatically Appended Next Post: AND there is no fundamental difference between being 3 points over and 70 points over, it is still cheating... thats like saying, i only shot 3 people, not 70, so chill...
mebbe there is a defference between shooting people and being points over but you get the idea...

Warboss - power klaw, attack squig, cybork body, bosspole & eavy armour
i would think about dropping the armour. lol I am not going to get into it but there is lots of posts about how armour is not needed if you have cybork.
Big Mek - burna, kustom force field, cybork body & eavy armour
same, even more so because the Mek "should" not see CC.
Elite
5 x Nobz w/ Battlewagon - power klaw, 3 x big choppas, bosspole, waaagh! Banner, Painboy - Wagon w/ big shoota & boarding plank
Good
6 x Lootas
would drop down to 5 to save a few points
6 x Lootas
same
Troops
6 x Nobz w/ Battlewagon - power klaw, 4 x big choppas, bosspole, waaagh! Banner, ammo runt & Painboy - Wagon w/ big shoota & boarding plank
Good
20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole
20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole

Shoota? I find they work best that way in wagons because you now have the option of not getting out and still be able to lay down some pain.

Over all I really like the list and think it will be giving people a run for there money!
One question tho, why do you not like Deff rollas but you have plants that need to be in 2 inches to work?

I would drop the borading planks and the deffkoptas to give all your BWs deffrollas. a single deffkota by its self is just a waste of points. With BS2 those TL rokkits are still gonna do nothing a high % of the time.
But just that little change makes this list ALOT more killy. yeah a BW or 3 will die, but there are still 2 more that will wreck face.

Hmm, your list has made me consider changing mine.
Something like this.
Biker Boss
KFF Mek
5 lootas
5 lootas
5 meganobz w/Wagon
5 Nob Bikers
18 Shootas w/Nob
18 Shootas w/Nob
17 Shootas w/Nob
2 Rokkit Buggies
1 Rokkit Buggy
1 Rokkit Buggy
Wagon
Wagon
Wagon
Ok, so I didn't give exact wargear, but its 2000 trust me.
The problem I see is a lack of firepower when i drop all those lootas. But, if you think losing firepower for more Wagons is a good idea, do it.

@backno: They are meant to scout-turbo boost the first turn and shoot the side/rear armor of a vehicle and then assault it... netting you 3 S7 attacks that auto hit against rear armor 10.
The OP: already changed his list to accommodate Deffrollas...
Although, I expect those tricksy Eldar, Tau and Monoliths will give him a little bit of trouble as they just get out of the way on a 3+.
@Sickening: Boarding Planks effectively have a 14" range as you move 12" then 2" plank. The Deff Rolla has no 2" buffer to start out of melta range and be effective.

Yes the 2 inch buffer is nice but ramming in safer IMO. With the rolla you can wreck the vehicle then disembark and assault the troops that will be holding a melta. The planks only work in the assault phase leaving the troops open to blast the wagon next turn. I am not saying that the boarding planks dont have there use but I would rather use the rolla first.

The Big Mek should never leave the battle wagon unless his gets blown up in which he should jump in another one. So the Burna is a waste i would go PK and take Boarding Planks
5 x Nobz w/ Battlewagon - power klaw, 3 x big choppas, bosspole, waaagh! Banner, Painboy - Wagon w/ big shoota & boarding plank
6 x Lootas
6 x Lootas
Deff Rollas are to good to pass up

20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole

20 x Boyz - Nob w/ power klaw & bosspole
I would make them all shoota boyz
Deffkopter - twin-linked rokkits & buzzsaws
Deffkopter - twin-linked rokkits & buzzsaws
These are you only "ranged" anti-transport, I would find a way to get a squad of Rokkit buggies. They would benefit from your KFF and are great to get your opponent out of their transports
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
Battlewagon - big shoota & boarding plank
again Deff Rollas are to good to pass up
Total: 2,003
personally I would make you lose the ammo runt since it's the only thing putting you over, a 2000 point game is a just that 2000 points, if it was a Space Marine that added a meltagun and make his 2005 would that be ok? Where does it end?
