Just an FYI--a co-worker pointed out that this year Da Grand Waaagh! GT in Alameda, California has asked people to sign up a bit early this year.
I am planning on going and totally missed the request, so figured some others may have also. I have not seen much posted about it this time.

Here is their webpage.

I have nothing to do with it but I will be signing up shortly and I hope to see some others from DakkaDakka there!

Cool, I am most likely moving up to the Bay Area around that time so that will be a good way to meet some gamers and get some good gaming in.

I'll be playing 40K there.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I'm starting to hate Californians more and more. Seems like 75% of all GTs and junk happen in hippyland. :(

I agree with you Dash, it sucks that most of the big tournaments are in Cali. On the other hand, we'll get alot more out here on the east coast when the big one hits and California falls into the ocean.

Reece is moving north?!? Quick! Hide the silver!

I missed this one last year, and have been debating going this year - on the one hand, I don't know anyone who went, so I don't know HOW it went; on the other hand, they're running it for the second time, which is a promising sign.

I should go - I lose my right to complain about having to drive south for GT-level events, if I don't attend the local ones.

I went last year, it was a blast! Being on the Hornet was very cool. I would strongly suggest you take the tour at some point during the weekend.

The crew that runs this event is experienced and mostly handles things well.

Some of the hard stuff from last year:

You are standing on metal decks; it is very rough on us older gamers. This year I plan to bring a rubber floor mat to put on my side of the table each game.

No local places to eat. There is a food stand on site and it’s not too expensive (soda $1.50, sandwich $4-$5, hamburgers & hotdogs, chips etc.

Last year, for the first year of the event, the only awards were Best Overall, Best Army (paint & comp), Best Sport and Players Choice. No 2nd place or best general.
My understanding is there will be a Best General this year, but don’t hold me to that it is just a rumor I’ve heard.

I’ll be going again, took 2nd overall last year with the Players Choice vote also. This is my one shot at a golden ticket for the year.

See some of you there.

I've actually done the tour twice since last year, with various bits of my family. And yes - she's a lovely boat.

Awesome tip. I have insoles for my shoes for tournaments, but they're barely adequate for carpeted floors after a full day. (Costco sells fairly cheap kitchen mats, 4'x2', if you don't mind kitchen-appropriate patterns).
