Just imagine a unit of nobz suffers unsaved wounds from SM bolters, and a Painboy is included in the unit. Is the unit allowed to make FNP saves? The question comes up because The rules say that a FNP roll can not be made from "any other wounds against which no armor save can ever be taken." The AP of the bolters penetrates the armor, but at times saves are allowed to be taken from bolter wounds. The word in question is bolded and underlined. What does dakka think? Does the bolt explode leaving my painboy some spare limbs, or a pocket full of teef for payment?

As you said, FNP specifies that it doesn't work against things that don't ever allow saves. Being disallowed an armour save due to the AP of the weapon does not fit that requirement, as a unit with a better save would potentially get a save from it.

It's yes. If the weapon ever allows any armour saves to be taken against it then FNP applies.

Armor saves can be taken from Bolters, just not by the ork's in question, therefore you can use FNP against these wounds, they are talking about wounds from AP1 or AP2 weapons, and things that say "No armor save allowed" rather than AP3 to AP-.

Hmm.. a FNP question about saves and AP. Time to set my watch again.

The caveat about "which no saves can ever be taken" is referring to things in the game that allow no armor save. Like those listed as examples (Dangerous Terrain chects, Perils).

Bolters dont ignore saves on everyone, so FNP is a yes.

As you stated in the 1st post, only things that ignore armour saves all of the time can stop FNP.


So, throw mad dok with 30 boyz and you have a pretty tough unit.
If you have points to burn and want to play about make them ard boyz for a 4+ save.
If you really want to waste points ontop of that give them all cybork for a 5++ save.

You then have a point-sink unit, but it lasts a while

The only time you can NOT use FNP is when the weapons ignore armor saves all the time and/or the weapon inflicts instant death.

Jack, just keep it cheap and use the KFF you're going to bringing anyway for a 5+ cover and FNP. Orks as durable as marines you say?

I say we make a thread with all of the frequently asked Q's and have it sticky'd.

I don't think this specific thread should be sticky. I just think this topic should be. This and "do I get a cover save" topics.

It's been discussed before. Frequently enough that it probably also wants a sticky.

The problem is, people don't read stickies.

The other problem is, it would rapidly blow out into a document the size of the rulebook.

So, we wind up ih a giant sticky thread that nobody reads, that is useless as a reference since you just spend the time you could have spent typing a reply searching through the sticky thread trying to find the post that you want to link to.

That you, for a lot of cases, get FNP, or that there is always someone who thinks you don't?

Just ask yourself this, Can a terminator take a ARMOUR save? yes? then FNP is allowed.

Unless the attack causes Instant Death.

So, for example, Cato Sicarius would suffer Instant Death if he was wounded by a Krak Missile, and failed his Sv2+, and would not be allowed to roll for the Feel No Pain roll granted by his armour.

Let this be the last FNP thread ever.

One more question about FNP... Never was quite sure... Let me give an example so that I don't complicate:
Nobz with FNP are in assault with lets say scorpions... So scorpions manage to make 3 wounds (for the sake of arguing lets say that all the nobz are same so no wound allocation abuse) and ork fails 2 4+ saves.. This would result in one dead nob but he manages to make the FNP roll... So my question is, for the purpose of determining assault results, have scorpions inflicted 2 or just 1 wound?

Second questions is not in connection with FNP but is connected with determining assault results... If you instant kill (again lets say) nob, is he considered as 1 or 2 wounds (if only 1 str 8+ shot kills him)...

Only 1 wound. FNP is like a "save", in the sense that if you pass it, no wound as scored, and that wound does NOT count towards combat resolution.

Second point, if you kill a model with ID, you get the full number of wounds that model had remaining as combat resolution. For example, if you ID'd a Nob with 2 wounds, you'd get +2, but if he'd been wounded already, you'd only get +1, despite it being instant death.

liam0404, despite being a lowly Neophyte, is indeed correct. Wounds "saved" by Feel No Pain in effect never happened.
