I was looking at some of my models the other day and noticed they had acquired a good level of dust and was wondering is there any way to remove the dust or will I have to live with the slightly poorer look. Also is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Try those air-blowers that people use to clean keyboards.

Gathering the Informations.

Are your models completely sealed, varnished, etc?

If so: you can just use some of Testor's "tack cloths"(what amounts to a semi-sticky gauze paper towel) to wipe the models down and remove the dust.

If you can't find those...just use a damp tissue.

Computer duster should work as long as your paint job is in good shape. Watch out for thin plastic pieces or banners that might get damaged. You can also just dust them with a small feather duster -- takes longer.

The best way to keep them from getting dusty again is to have an enclosed case. If you have them on shelves and you can't get a new case, try putting pieces of plexi across the shelves (my brother just screwed right into the wood, or you can attach hinges). Or, look for plastic cases at hobby shops. Michaels has them for uber cheap.

Large blusher brushes for makeup tend to work really well at dusting off dust without doing any damage.

Just make sure there is no blush on them ><

As for preventing it, just don't keep them in a dusty room. If they are in a case and still getting dirty, either the lining of the case seriously needs a good cleanout, or the room they are in is just far too dusty.

well they are chaos marines without any varnish or seals, but a duster seems like a good idea. Thanks for the quick replies.

This. Soft enough not to damage, firm enough to get the dust out.

Don't try to wash the dust off - you'll just turn it into mush and gunk and it will take more effort then.

Keeping their containment area under positive pressure works as well (so that the air pressure inside is greater than that of outside).

Thirded. Bigass fluffy makeup blending brushes are the best.
