Hey everyone,
I've never played IG before, or 5th edition for that matter. I stopped playing after 3rd. I am looking to get back into 40k so I got an IG codex and put together an army list after thinking about a theme.

I'm thinking about a well-funded mechanized infantry company that used to fend off either hordes of heavy infantry or light vehicles (like the tyranids or Dark Eldar) on the moon they're from. It is a desert moon, and the surface is very flat, except for the occasional crater here or there, so the company benefits from the ability to use fast vehicles.

So, based on the fluff (which I have a much more detailed version of), everybody in the army will have the benefit of a vehicle, and there will be an abundance of rapid firing heavy weapons. They also favor long range combat

Also, just a pride thing, I'm trying to make an all plastic army.... except for the techpriest and servitors.... unless anyone knows of an easy way to convert plastic models to make those. I mean really easy. I've never touched greenstuff in my life, and needless to say, I am a beginner.

Enough rambling. Here's the list:

HQ

Company Command Squad
Vox caster
Autocannon
Master of Ordnance

Techpriest Enginseer
(5) servitors

Troops

Platoon Command Squad
vox caster
autocannon
2 grenade launchers
Chimera

Infantry squad (anti-infantry/light vehicle)
power weapon
grenade launcher
vox caster
autocannon
chimera

Infantry Squad (anti-armor)
melta bombs
plasma gun
vox caster
missile launcher
krak grenades
chimera

Veteran Squad
forward sentries
(3) sniper rifles
heavy bolter
Chimera

Fast Attack

Scout Sentinel Squadron (3 sentinels, all equipped the same)
Missile launchers

Hellhound Devildog squadron (2 tanks, all equipped the same)
Pintle-mounted heavy stubbers

Heavy Support

Leman Russ Battle Tank
Las Cannon
Heavy Bolter sponsons
Pintle-mounted heavy Stubber

Leman Russ Executioner
Plasma cannon sponsons
Pintle-mounted heavy stubber

Leman Russ Executioner
Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Pintle-mounted heavy stubber

Total Points: 1845

Please give feedback. I'm strongly considering trading one executioner for two hydra flak tanks to help punish some vipers.

Techpriests arent very useful at all. Vox system is kinda uselss with everyone being in their own little chimera doing their own thing. Power Weapons on Infantry squads are a no no. Krak Grenades and Melta bomb are on a squad with a missile launcher, doesnt go well (and plasma is waste of points on a sqaud like that). at such high points you have 4 scoring units, 1 thats 5 man, 2 that are very frail, and one that sits in the back. I suggest reorginizing your troops. For Mech, all vets isnt a bad idea or at least toss in a commissar or 2. really though dont expect a single infantry squad to do much. I'm confused, are the hellhound and devil dog IN THE SAME SQUAD? They are designed for 2 different jobs. also split up your fast attack in to more squads. paying too much for russes. remove the HB and stubbers. I think that'll give you enough for some plasma sponsons but even then I think 2 executioners is over kill. swap out one for hydras/exterminators (while removing the stubbers/HB sponsons). So biggest thing you need to do is find some way to get more infantry out there. I suggest the cookie cutter melta vets. they are common as heck but they work

The platoon command squad needs to drop at least one upgrade to be legal. Agreed that your squad upgrades are all over the map, including forward sentires on mech vets. Also seems like terribly few units for 1850.

I'm rewriting the list based on what you said. I'm getting rid of the techpriest, taking away the vox-casters, the heavy stubbers (the only reason I chose them is because I think they look cool... pretty stupid reason, and changing an executioner into two hydras.

I'm also planning on upgrading to veterans. do veterans need a platoon command squad?

nope so technically they are cheaper as you dont need 2 squads and command minimum

ok, so I got rid of vox casters, techpriest, power weapon, stubbers, and replaced an executioner with 2 hydras.

I upgraded my squads to veterans and got rid of the platoon command. I'm at 1505 now. Any suggestions?
