So in honor of Halo: Reach coming out, and because I really just want an excuse to start an IG army, I thought I'd start with Noble team, who'd count most probably as vets with carapace armor, simply because they're more mutable than storm troopers and Noble team (and spartans in general) almost always deply via either a drop pod style vehicle or the venerable pelican (which could be easily converted from a valk...)
To that end, does anyone have ideas for a base model?
I'm thinking Eldar most probably simply because of their thin stature but taller-than-human proportions

Space marine scouts are probably better - Eldar would be far too thin. Though that would make them a lot easier to bulk out with armour.

Yea that was my thinking, since all of the imperial models wear thick baggy pants or heavy armor plates...

Pig Iron Productions does some cool Halo-esque models. Their
System Troopers are probably the nearest to Spartans. Add on the 'Heavy Infantry Visored heads' and you're laughing.

most people don't know yet (simply because the game has been dead for 2+ years) but actionclix is coming out with some new NON-collectible (as in you know what you're getting in every box) sets for halo reach, including noble team. if you just want in scale (or spartan-scale since they're more true-scale) noble team figs, you could get these also as an option for those not wanting to convert them.

Although a good idea, those models will be totally out of proportion if they are the same scale as heroclix.

Plus only one of the spartans in the Noble team is "truscale" sized. The rest are supposed to be more or less human sized from what I remember.

the spartan IIIs are still pretty chunky steroid freaks, just not to the scale of the spartan IIs like masterchief and the guy in noble team carrying the minigun. i've fielded my halo 3 spartans next to 40k figs in the past and theyy don't look too out of place; they look like 7-8ft tall people should next to guardsmen!

Nah see this is the whole point of the exercise XD I actually already have a ton of actionclix but i want the mutability of working in plastic and I wanna pull a Raff and say "HA! I MADE these!"

I had considered the heads cause they match the Mark IV/V heads of noble team well, but the bodies look too much like marines

Yea I know what you mean, they're taller and thinner than marines. And as far as RL proportions go they're all 7+ feet tall

Yea but asceticly that only works if you truescaled everything else...and Spartan IIIs are just as badass they're just normally not as well armored and a LOT younger than all the spartan IIs ever visually seen. So I think Noble team could easily pass for spartan IIs, and look at how thin all the master chief actionclix are? he's practically anorexic!

ultimately tho I'm short on ideas of how to get cheap ass parts, as ebay is...less than reliable, and I'm a struggling college student...
and greenstuff...need some more green stuff...

no problem, i just thought i'd suggest it since most people i know who are into halo and minis gaming don't know that the new set is coming out; like i did up until 2 weeks ago, they figure haloclix is dead.

he's not anorexic, lol. he's just not wierdly proportioned with inhuman shoulders and swollen face/hands like the 40k figs are. as for the spartan IIs vs IIIs, i'd have to see them side by side when i pick up the pack when its released. fluffwise, they are a bit smaller (still bigger than humans) and wearing lighter armor than the IIs so that cuts down on their bulk theoretically. they are also younger like you said but you'd never know it because, unlike in 40k, when the military spends the equivalent of a space cruiser's worth of money to give you fully environmental armor like the UNSC did with the mjolnar suits for the IIs and the cheaper variants for the IIIs, they actually wear the helmets! gotta love 40k!

good luck with the conversions. in the past, i actually wanted to do my daemonhunter stormtroopers as ODSTs from halo3/ODST (not the earlier style from halo 1 and 2 that the only clix are based on). i couldn't find the right collection of parts to make it look good and my greenstuff skills are mediocre at best.

yea I just realized whatcha mean, as Jorge is a spartan II (the machine gunner) while the rest are Spartan IIIs, and Jorge is HUGE compared to them...still tho, anyone got any better ideas than eldar?

or at the very least which aspect to use? i was thinking either dire avengers or fire dragons as a base body

Dire avengers since they're plastic.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

fire dragons are metal? harumph...my only real fear is the lack of easy poses with the DA, given their lack of leg variation...

Not hard to change the legs up a bit with DA.

Running legs are quite easily done with a knife, plastic glue and/or a bit of GS.
