whose more emo? Blood Angels or Dark Angels? (successors included)
My vote is for dark angels...... I sense much teen angst in them.

The fact that inevitably, you, and the only people you care about (your fething battle-brothers) will become manically insane and try to kill everyone in sight and thus themselves have to be killed, with the only way to avoid such a fate being to get killed, is a legitimate reason to be sad.

Being secretive, anti-social and an all around jerk because of something that happened about 10,000 years ago to essentially your Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandpa is a little harder buy.

Gonna say Dark Angels are little more fake-depressed here.

Honestly, and I'm not speaking from any kind of bias here (I FRIGGIN HATE THE BLOOD ANGELS), I don't see either chapter as what you call "emo". Emo kids cry over stuff they can't control. For example, "No one understands me!". Emo kids don't try to change. They just try to make it sound like they're right and the world is wrong.

The Blood Angels, while extremely remorseful over the loss of their primarch, still kick butt in his memory.

The Dark Angels do have some issues, I'll admit. However, they don't sit around and cry about it. What do they do? They kick some friggin' butt is what they do!!! The Dark Angels don't mope around and whine about their shame. Sure, they adopt a title for their chapter (The Unforgiven), and wear their robes with pride. You call them dresses...but what chapter doesn't have some honorary decorative on their armour that we couldn't make fun of, huh? The SW have their furs, the BA have their nipples (seriously?), and the codex chapters have their laurels and crests.

To call any Space Marine chapter emo, is IMHO to call them all emo. All the chapters have their secrets, their regrets, and their traditions. None of them any more valid than the rest.

Cool story bro!

The question is though "Who is more emo?" not "Are either of them more emo".

Yep, Lion El Johnson was based on the poet Lionel Johnson who wrote about a fallen angel and was "Good Friends" with Oscar Wilde.

Actually, I'd say neither.

The Blood Angels, as much as I despise them, honestly have a reason to be "emo." I mean, they're eventually going to go insane. They constantly have to either put their comrades in a madhouse or send them to their deaths, literally for their own good. That's gotta hurt. I don't like the horrible "Space Vampire" pastiche Matt Ward gave them, but that's Matt Ward.

The Dark Angels are, as has been stated in this thread, based on a poem by Lionel Johnson ("The Dark Angel"), which was essentially about his internal conflict between his repressed homosexuality and his Catholic faith. He saw himself as "the Dark Angel" in that he was faithful to God, but the very thing he was was abhorrent in God's eyes (as believed at the time). That's not an easy thing to live with. So while the Dark Angels chapter can get a little bit "emo" from time to time, they're based on a real story of real hardship that puts them in a whole new light when you sit down and actually think about it. That, and despite being Space Illuminati, they still have the most badass First Company in the Imperium.

This

But for the sake of the thread, the Lamenters . . . the quintessential fail mahreens. Successor chapter of the BA.

Says the guy whose chapter has nipples on their armor...I do agree with the horrible codex, though. They desperately need a new one.

Blood angels for sure are more emo. They drink the blood of their Primarch, using it as the catalyst for the geneseed changes.
