Welcome to Dakka Dakka, they might let it slide since this is your first post, but normally this would go in 40K Tactics or in 40K You Make Da Call. This spot is for introducing yourself to the rest of us.

To answer your question: I personally only have the space marines that came in the battle for macragge starter set, so I dont have any first hand info on drop pods. I am, however, a Tyranid player and love Mycetic spores or "spods", as they are now so lovingly called. I would say drop pods, like any model, are only as good as the person using them... then again, they are really only as good as the dice you are rolling

If you want to be in their face assault marine then drop pods are a good idea, if you want to hold back and form a defensive fire line, then they are a waste of time.
