Hi, I'm starting to paint my DC, only problem is: what do I paint them?

They are primed black and I have two ideas.

1. Paint them a REALLY dark blue with white angel wings

OR

2. Build them up to white or a slightly off white and have black angel bits.

C&C please!

TBH, I like the black and red. But out of the two I think that the whitish would look good. What colors are your troops painted though?

Just normal BA red. And I think the codex DC scheme is good, just too many people have it... also they would look pretty awesome as sergeants if I don't run them.

If normal BA schemes. I'd go for white, that actually sounds really nice.

I would say build up to an off white and use black angel bits. Its different but still work well. Working up to that white after priming it black is going to be a nightmare to do. It would almost be easier to strip them and reprime white.

But if you go with the dark blue I would say use the Necron Abyss foundation cause its a really dark dark blue with a blue wash.

Or maybe paint them up as normal blood angels but put on war paint. Make it look like some symbol of death has been painted over there normal armor. Similar to the hand prints the Uruk-Hai did in LOTR on there helmets.

The black with red markings always made sense to me as it is the the inverse of their normal colors.

I am leaning towards the white and black angel bits. It makes them seem like fallen angels.

The dark blue (near black but not black) makes them seem full of hate.

As for how I'd do the white, I have some skull white spray paint, I'll probably just do a real quick spray. Or I can build it up from grays.

If I was between those choices, I would go white. Some of the successing chapters of the BA use white for their death company and san guard anyway.

However, I think that the black and red scheme is a perfect fit for the Death Company. No color better exemplifies death like black....its the logical choice. I mean you shouldnt be worried about doing what everyone else does....after all, you painted your Blood Angels red right? Even following the scheme there are still plenty of ways to personalize your army. For example in my army, all the sergeants are adorned with robes (black robes for regular marines, grey robes for HQ, and red robes for the death company). I also do not used ANY orange highlights for my marines, ive never liked the idea highlighting red with orange, so I paint them a deeper red initially and highlight with blood red instead. Little things like that will make your army personal in its own way.

Whatever you choose to do though, I hope it turns out well for you!

i'd say go with white. i'm a fan of alternate BA paint schemes as i did just that back in third edition with my sons of sanguinius chapter, where i reversed the normal colors. i used death co models in black for the regular guys and DA veterans with their robes red for the death co. excuse some of the funny looking models as they're all at least 10 years old and the first army i ever painted!
