I don't know any good painting DVDs, but if your just looking for ways to improve painting you should search the web for videos. There will be a lot more varied tips and they are free. Youtube and other similar sites are full of painting videos.

Natalya Melnik DVD is good, plus the Miniature Mentor stuff. The Mini Mentor site offers a very good value subscription which you can cancel any time, you download all the tutorials you like for about $70 and there is alot of great stuff in HD, great close ups so you see everything perfectly. The kraken editions dvd is supposed to be good but is out of stock everywhere at the mo i think.

Les' Topics Page has links to his videos so you don't even need to leave the comfort of Dakka. I second his tutes - very informative and informal.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I second Les' videos, they are great.

If you are looking for more advanced techniques I would also recommend Miniature Mentor. The subscription has been great.

The Jeremie Bonamant video is also very good. I think I bought it at the CoolMiniOrNot.com store.

I find Les's stuff really good if you're looking to paint up an army really quick, yet have it look good. Although, he does mention some of the more pro stuff from time to time.

I bought the Hot Lead video and its great for someone who is still pretty new to this hobby. It does have stuff on Blending and other advanced techniques but not as much as I would like. A good buy though. I watched it a number of times.

As mentioned above, Miniature Mentor is something ill be looking at too.

What skill level are you at? Do you want to paint like a pro or just paint up an army quickly? Things like that can help this thread.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

Well..I am keen on doing the best job I can but since I have two boys that want to play also, time is a factor. We have only been doing this since last year.

Thanks

I'd second Hot Lead as a good place to start. Goes through from basic to advanced level skills at a good pace. There's also a nice section on NMM of various types and some talk about basing techniques too.

Miniature Mentor is also excellent, the subscription is good value and there are new videos released all the time. I particularly like the discussions they have with the painters which give valuable tips on the thought processes behind why things are done a certain way.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

The miniature mentor videos I've watched are astounding, essentially being a walk through for a single model, painted from bare primer. It's pretty much an interview with the painter, discussing why and how he's doing everything, detailing the exact logic and theory behind virtually every brush stroke. Would buy again.

I will vouch for Les. Miniature Mentor has been recommended to me a bunch of times from a lot of good painters, so I am betting that is a good way to go.
