I have heard a lot about the size differential between the old and new Land Raiders... does anyone have side-by-side pictures of this?

My only real concern is curiosity. I like the old Land Raiders, I used to play Epic and I have a ton of old ones, but super-tiny ones...

MkI is taller and doesn't have a front assault ramp.
MkII and III are longer.

If you're thinking of picking up a MkI be prepared for sticker shock. You can find painted and usually abused models on Ebay for $50-$70. A new model on the sprue can go for $125-$200.

Oh I know. I even found a fake one on eBay...

Me and my buddy Jim like the older models. I only run old rhinos, but I use the newer ones for the tanks, like the predator.

width wise they're about the same but they're significantly taller but not as long. they're a bit better for deepstriking if you play BA but you'll have a hard time getting a coversave with them. i thought i screened my old LR with a wall of rhinos but didn't actually check the view from my opponent's side and was quite suprised when he informed me i was NOT obscured. :(

You know that Forge World makes Mk2 conversions, which are really just different lascannon sponsons, right?

there is a different front plate also. the heavy bolter is mounted into a recessed housing as opposed to a turret in a partial pit like the normal one.

pfft still... i mainly mean the mk1 one, gotta love it!

2 real ones on ebay right now...both buy it now, $60 & $70. 1 reproduction...think its scratch built. Looks pretty good from the pics.

me too... get in line, those who have MK1s don't give them up easily... they were rare back in the day and they are worse now.

On the topic of MkIs I love those angled hatches they have on the top. Being that they have been out of production for so long there's not much chance to get my claws on one unfortunately. I am considering sculpting one, but since I have never seen one in person it's a bit hard to gauge the scale and whatnot. Would it be possible for the proud owner of one of these venerable machines to send me several photos of the hatch next to a ruler so I can get an idea of how wide it should be, the width of the groves, and the angle of the top?

yeah, they skipped 2nd edition with any landraiders (the few people i knew that had them back in early early 3rd when i started had them since RT). they seem to go for high prices which is surprising since they went for practically nothing back in the 3rd edition days after the current style land raider was introduced. is the relatively new rush on them because everyone wants to deep strike them with BA?

Anyone have a pic of a Mk 2 LR? I have Mk 1 and 3 but can't bring the design of the Mk 2 to mind...

I play Dark Angels, so no, I don;t want to deep strike them. I started playing Warhammer 40k through Epic, and all of my Land Raiders were Mk1s, so I have a soft spot for them. In fact, when I purchased the Epic 40,000 Land Raiders a couple of years later, I was very disappointed that they had changed, not knowing the current 40k sculpt.

It's the plastic one from the Epic: 40,000 era.



And on the subject of Land Raiders, this is the most gorgeous mk1 I've ever seen.

I think someone said it before, but the MK2 had front-firing lascannon sponsons (no behind-the-back shots) and a deeply-places heavy bolter...

And Curis, that is one hellaciously awesome MK1!!!
