Just curious if anyone plays WAB (or any other warhammer historical game) and what (if any) army?
How do you think it compares to other popular hist systems like DBA or Indeptus?

I did play alot of it when it first appeared all those years ago, but went off it over time. Too much like playing Warhammer.
When I want to play WFB then I play it, when I want to play an historical game, I dont want to play WFB.

Yes... Kinda moved to Impetus now.
Still considering WAB for my new Free Company for the HYW but Impetus gives a superior game.
Still get urges to build some TYW armies though... But again, I suspect I will go with Impetus.

About half of my game time is spent on WAB these days. I took a quick look at Impetus, but have not gotten around to playing.
With all of the changes to WAB2 and WFB8 there is no more mistaking one for the other. I have to say, WAB2 got the better upgrade.

I played WAB1.5 and now am enjoying WAB2.0
I have a Roman force, and am currently working on an El Cid/Norman army.
I think the current game is different enough from WHFB, and every game I've had has been very solid.
I don't have any experience with Impetus/FOG, or any of the other systems, although I have done Might and Reason (Seven Year War) in 10mm, and picked up Black Powder.

Impetus are excellent. We use them for really large 6mm games. Haven't had as much fun with ancients since the Irregular Miniatures Ancient Rule Box was released (and if you remember that you, like me, are now wondering where the last 20 years went! )

I've never tried IMpetus though I've heard good things about it.
I wouldn't play WHAB because it is Warhammer.
Plenty of people like it or course. Overall there is a divide between WHAB and all the other Ancients rules, partly due to the basing system.
Warmaster Ancients is more compatible with WRG, Warrior, DBA DBM, DBMM, FoG and so on than it is with WHAB.

Like you mentioned, I like WAB because it uses the Warhammer system as its basis. But I also find that once you strip out the magic, magic items, monsters, and all the special rules, its a very good system, and I've found most of the games (within supplements) to be pretty balanced. Of course, we play friendlies, and not tournaments.
I'm interested in trying out Warmaster Ancients once I get around to settling on a period, and getting two armies together in 10mm (I find I have to drag people into it by offering the demo games). I like the idea of the more 'epic' feel and look of the board with large armies on it (the 10mm SYW stuff looked great for us on the table).
I find myself not being drawn to the other, multiple models on the base, systems most likely because I'm so used to the single basing casualty removal systems from WHFB and WAB.
That's been my challenge in reading the Black Powder rules, where I'm struggling with the basing (which I realize I could just do individually with movement trays), and the 'no casualty removal but casualty marker' mechanics. I still have to actually try it out. But again, considering the size of the units they recommend, I'll likely bump it down to 10mm to make it more affordable.

The rationalisation for not removing casualties is that the number of men fighting in the front rank did not significantly diminish in combat because casualties were replaced from the rear ranks until the formation disintegrated through morale failure.
Once a formation disintegrated it was no longer a factor on the battlefield; a game can therefore ignore such a formation and simply remove it from the tabletop.
