I did not originally paint this tank. I got it from my sisters friend when she mentioned taking me to GD, one of her co-workers used to play and he gave me a far amount of his stuff including this beautiful tank. Man if you guys could see the inside of the thing, its amazing. Well, I really don't play Marines but I really like LotD. So I decided to paint it so. This is the start of some free handing practice.

Started with pencil then painted in detail. I plan on adding flames f you can see the pencil marks below the crossed hands.
Black->Snakebite Leather->Elf Flesh->White->Black touch-up
Thanks!

Didn't care for it at first glance because the proportions are a bit off, but it's growing on me after considering it a bit. It reminds me of that festival they have down south...Day of the Dead or something. It has that sort of charm to it. I'd say it's worth exploring more as an army theme.

I think you may need to go over and spruce up the original tank paint job though - doesn't matter how nice you get with the freehand if the the model looks like it's just been base-coated.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not bad, however, check out an anatomy book to get things looking more accurate - you don't have that many ribs and the bones in your shins and forearms don't bend quite so much

May also want a longer neck.

Otherwise the painting itself is pretty good, if a little wobbly in places.

Try drawing it out in pencil before painting so you can more easily get the proportions correct.

Exellent First attempt.

I agree with everyine else, the proportions are abit out.

Though technically, if its a SM skeleton, the ribs would all be fused? And perhaps go over and highlight the edges a little on the actual tank. It does just look base coated.

Yeah, I thought the same thing- very day of the dead (and not the George Romero kind).

Of course, if you did go for this as an army theme, it would probably come out looking like a Legion of the Damned force. Not at all in a bad way, though.

I said I intended to paint it as legion of the damned. I'll be adding flames and more macabre stuff. Yeah I know the proportions are off but its only minor. I need to add washes and some other things before they are completely done. If you have seen the rest of the tank, you would know its not just base coated. I believe he intended it to be Black Templars but I like skulls and flames better.

I finally remembered the other thing this reminded me of (only took all morning to recall it) - a game called Grim Fandango.

Anyway, maybe take a minute to see the art associated with those two things. It's very forgiving on proportions (elongated, non-anatomical representations are the norm) and has a very unique aesthetic, which I think you've nailed right on the head (accidentally or not).

Regarding the tank - I just tend to think of something as basecoated if it doesn't have highlights, but that could be personal taste as well. The pictures posted just make the tank look very plain and basic, which I guess could be desirable if you don't want to draw attention from the freehand, but I'm inclined to think it just looks a bit on the "undone" side.

Yeah, I don't care for the day of the dead style art at all. Its ugly. I know the proportions are off, but I needed them to be holding hands as I am going to write in the best script I can, 'Fraternity'. Also yeah, not highlights, he didn't finish the tank but where he added color its crisp. He also painted the whole interior very well. No detail was missed. I'll be going back and adding highlights and such later. Thanks for the comments. I also forgot to add teeth to the other skeleton. Whoops.
