Pretty much every Sunday I get to go play a game or two at a friends house. His entire basement is fitted with about 3 tables with a 4th back-wash table (if we have too many people) and we get to game from noonish to 4-5pm (depends)
All of our games are 2000 pts
I decided to start posting reports on how my games are going, so each Sunday ill have a report up on whats going on.
Today's Battle!
My Chaos Marines Vs (forgot-his-name)'s ORKS
My list: 1876pts (this list was hastely done up because my original opponent was busy elsewhere. The bad thing is.. IM UNDERPOINTED! I was so used to my old list i forgot the changes i made to it LOWERED my points!)
HQ: 250pts total (yeah i know.. cheesy.. but its so much fun dragging orks around!)

5 deff-koptas, all with twin linked rokkits and 1 with big bomms (I don't know about the big-bomm cus he mentioned the squad had them, dont know if they all did)
5 bikers, nob with bosspole and claw.
I didn't get to see his detailed list. but he says its worth 2000 points, and much of the wargear he said he had (most he didn't get to use!) was in there...
LETS GET IT ON!!.
Game type: Capture and Control, pitched battle. (i placed my objective near my board edge, him being a close combat army placed his at the bare minimum away from mine)
We roll to see who gets to go first, I win the roll and choose to go first.
I have only faught orks once before, and it was a dakka ork army, so this time i came prepared to roast as many orks as possible before they can do any damage.
I stuck a squad of 10 csms next to my objective to sit on it while he comes at me. and my second squad took position near a building in which i would take refuge in on my turn.
I placed my havocs in a decliciously high perch where they can see nearly 80% of the field.
Oblits were stuffed into another building where they can snipe at his delicate units.
Defiler placed beside oblits for now.
my two rhinos filled with berzerkers and sorcerers lined up at max deployment, my plan is in motion
His deployment was pretty much every orks deployment, massive line of orks. he placed his 'ardboyz with zoggy at the front, and a squad of 20 boyz close behind him. the second squad
of boyz were perched up to attempt an outflank by going to long way around terrain.
Last squad of boyz stuck onto his objective.
He placed his bikes in a box formation around his trukk creating a wall from anything attempting to shoot the trukk from ground level (more on this later)
deff-koptas scouted far ahead out in the open, hoping to survive long enough to pop my rhinos.
CHAOS TURN 1:
Movement:
I moved my front squad of 10 marines into the cover (this was dumb but im not getting anywhere NEAR those orks atm!) and my rhinos positioned them selves for some lashing fun.
shooting phase: (DOH!. I forgot to move my defiler so he was at a bad place to be shooting from!)
Unleashed defilers battle cannon on zogworts squad, sadly since he was in a bad place. he got cover saves for it. killed about 5 boyz.
Oblits fired off plasmacannons onto the exposed deff coptas, killing 2
Havocs fired kraks into the the 3 remaining coptas. killed 2 more (DAMN!) 1 left
First sorcerer lashed zogworts squad, a lovely 12 inches back! (sadly i couldnt do 12 to his board edge because the other boyz were in the way, so I shoved him to the right with some boyz jammed into cover (muahha good luck rolling a 6 to get your normal movement!)
second sorcerer attempted to lash the second boyz squad, was just out of range (DOH!)
nothing to assault. on to the orks turn!
ORKS TURN 1:
Movement:
Miffed about his squad with zoggy stuck with a difficult terrain test, he rolled his two diced. he rolled a 2 and a cocked 6. me being sporty gave him the 6 (bad terrain is bad)
second boyz squad moved up behind him. he also positioned his models to create a barrier from further lashing (grr)
Third boyz squad moved their outflanking attempt around the terrain, straight for my oblits (still rather far away)
fourth squad stayed where they were.
the living kopta passed his leadership and moved up to one of the rhinos
bikes moved up 12, trukk still wedged in there.
Shooting:
zoggy rolled his psychic test. perils of the warp! zogs down to 2.
all his ork squads ran, some how rolling alot of 5's and 6's (sometimes I wonder why i traded my gw-dice for chessex dice, this kid is rolling FETHING good.)
single twin linked rokkit failed horribly.
he positioned his one rokkit launcha boy in such a way, terrain blocked his TLOS from seeing my rhino. no shots from him.
Dakkaguns from the bikes molested 4 of my front squad of csms (GODAMN HOW MANY 5'S AND 6'S CAN THIS KID ROLL!? not only that, I failed 4 out of 8 saves T_T)
my squad passes leadership.
nothing to assault. onto turn 2!
CHAOS TURN 2:
I rolled for my chosen who were kept in reserve to outflank. both came in!. rolled to see which edge, one on the left, one on the right (just as i wanted woo!)
my first squad of chosen were placed ever so deliciously close to his camped squad of boyz. pretty close into flaming range. the second squad were placed right beside his out-flanking orks (he even had them positioned PERFECTLY for flamer templates!)
Defiler moved to the left to get a better view, two rhinos further positioned for lash fun. camping squad of csm's moved back out of cover to avoid another set of shooting.
Shooting phase: Do you smell barbeque?
on the outflanking orks I scored 38 flamer hits Not much.. but decent. killed off about 15 of them. they failed leadership and took off a few inches but not far enough..
second flamer chosen only scored 25 hits. killed 10 of them. (MY ROLLING IS TERRIBLE TODAY!) they remain fearless
oblits fired two plasmacannons into bikers. killed 1
havocs fired kraks into bikers as well. he made his saves some how.
defiler decided to have fun and fired at the bikers with the battle cannon. and lo. it scatters a little and lands on 3 bikers and the trukk
two bikes failed their saves (woo) and since the battle cannon is not at ground level. the trukk does not get a cover save. due to the bikes not shielding it. Half strength battle cannon + 2d6 because its ordanance (penetrated rather easily). rolled a 6 on damage table. he ramshackled a 6. kerrunch. Gazzy and nobs get out unscathed
Lashed zogworts squad once again, but since his boy-wall stops me from doing what I wanted, I dragged his models through the small hole of cover he left, and hes stuck once more.
my rhino attempted to combi-melta the kopter, failed horribly.
In the assault phase my one chosen unit that got the one squad of boyz to run was JUST within 6 inches.. soo.. ASSAULT!
Demolished them to a few models left. they SOME how beat me in an initiative test and get away towards their edge (unfortunately hes got nothing friendly near by so they are gonna keep running)
on to the orks!
ORKS TURN 2:
running squad flees off the table
bikes boost far into my land. pointlessly
Once again zogwort moves up another 6 inches, second squad in tow.
gazzy rolls a 5 on his move (GODAMNIT!, WHY WEREN'T MY GW DICE THIS GOOD!?)
kopta flits around for another shot at the rhinos
his now very angry squad of boyz turns to my flamers with fire in their eyes.
ork shooting:
zogwort rolls his power... WAAAGH!
back squad of 20 boyz runs a bit more to the right towards his objective (I can see why) instead of forward.
everything else runs up but his angry squad and kopter runs up (his angry squad rolled a 1 and lost a guy)
gazzy rolls a 3 for his run (whew)
rokkit on kopter fails yet again.
assault phase:
The camped squad attempted to assault the 5 flamers. sadly hes 6.25inches away! no assault for you!
on to chaos turn 3!
Now its time to act!
movement:
Both sorcerers disembarked with their zerker buddies, one off towards zogworts group, the other positioned within LOS of gazzy's
my camping squad rolled a 2 to move. they put a wrench in my plan... but thats ok
The 6 squad of cs'm's move up close to the bikers. two flamers ready to go.
defiler moved again, towards the big fight about to happen.
the 5 flamers now left with nothing to do walked down to my edge, one of my rhinos boosted up to meet them half way.
shooting phase: (YES.. I FOGOT TO MOVE MY OTHER 5 CHOSEN.. FUUUUUUU!)
But! THEY CAN STILL FLAME SOME BOYZ!. scored 20 hits. and a lovely 10 wounds. all die. the objective is clean ork scum.
my sorcerer lashes zogworts group into assault range, my zerkers fire their pistols and kill 3 boyz
my oblits fire off two plasmacannons onto gazzie's group. one dies, gazzy fails his invuln, down to three wounds..
four krak missiles into gazzies group, he puts two onto gazzie and passes them. another nob dies.
my second sorcerer lashes gazzies group into assault range (better then letting HIM get the charge!)
my zerkers fire pointlessly at gazzy, no damage.
my 6 csm squad fires 2 flamers onto the bikers. one takes a wound, bolt pistols do nothing
defiler attempts a shot at the squad of 20 boyz, (scatters badly and only kills 3)
assault phase!: (everything assaults pretty much)
my 1 sorcerer and company assaults zogworts group. thiers still alot of boyz in there. Killed a whopping 14 boyz (zogwort is now out of attack range hur hur!)
boyz kill 2 zerkers (HOW DO I FAIL 2 OUT OF 7 SAVES!? FFFFF)
apparrently his nob can allocate all his attacks onto my sorcer. scores 3 wounds.. I roll 2 sixes and a four.. damnit) sorcerer dies horribly as somehow a nob from 5 feet away kills him.
I win combat by ALOT. he fails ld, uses bosspole, fails again. i roll a 6 for my initiative test, no way he can win, i catch him and kill off zogwort without even trying.
Combat with gazzy did terribly.
of all 5 attacks on my sorcerer (apparrently I also have to declare who im attacking. so i put them all on gazzy) they all miss (1, 1 ,3, 2, 1 WTF) Out of my berzerkers 28 attacks, i put 18 on gazzy, and 10 on nobs.
killed off 1 nob, and gazzy fails a save. down to 2.
nobs hit back and kill 3 zerkers, gazgull throws all 5 of his attacks onto my sorcerer, he is mutilated. My champion takes his attacks, puts another wound on gazzy.. down to 1!
The bikers lose two and the biker nob is left with 1 wound, he misses with all his attacks. woo. some how the biker survives my champion.
Onto the Orks
ORKS TURN 3:
movement:
kopter stays still
his back squad moves towards his objective.
shooting.
kopter fails AGAIN!
big shootas kill one of my chosen
assault: nothing assaults. only combat.
my berzerkers get to hit first. kills off another nob. one left. gazzy and last nob bring zerkers down to 3 left. zerker champ scores 3 hits on gazzy.. i roll 3 1's... FFFFUUU
bike fight nothing happens.. he makes all his saves. he misses all his attacks. and my champ misses again!
CHAOS TURN 4:
chosen embark onto rhino, it shoots off 12 inches back to the good side of the board.
my non-in-combat zerkers move off towards his objective
my defiler moves towards gazzies fight.
my camping squad finally gets out of cover and gets into assault range of gazzies squad (HE MUST DIE NOW!)
i move my flamer chosen onto his objective. effectively contesting it if his boyz move in
oblits get off their pirch and move into sight of his 20 boyz mob.
shooting:
Oblits kill off the kopter with las-cannons
defiler fleets into assault range of gazzies fight.
assault:
My defiler AND marine squad assault into gazzies fight. this will be bloody.
Im about to make my attacks and then my opponent clicks in with an evil trick.. he calls his waaagh.. FFFFFUUUUUUUu 2+ INVULN
after combat im left with 1 zerker left. 2 of my csm squad die, the defiler kills gazgull, the nob some how survives. and i lost combat by 4 some how.
rolled my saves for the zerker cus hes fearless. he dies. my csm's fail their leadership, re-rolled. still failed. ran back a bit.
the biker FINALLY dies.
the single one wound nob is now in combat with the defiler. this will be fun.
ORKS turn 4:
remaining ork squad moves ever closer to chosen, since its still waagh, he gets to run 6. this is going to hurt.
in assault he mutilates my flamer chosen. hes got one objective
in combat with the defiler.. SOME HOW I MISS WITH ALL MY DEFILER HITS. nob scores a shaken, daemonic possession laughs it off
(i was REALLY hoping to kill him here so I can fire my cannon at the sitting squad)
CHAOS TURN 5:
my running squad regroups due to being near friendlies, they move onto my objective. the squad that finished off the bike move up the board
rhino filled with chosen boosts another 12. still far off from where they need to be.
zerkers move closer to objective.
shooting:
oblits plink off another ork with a lazcannon.
havocs fire four frags into the orks. decimating them down to 8 models. they take a leadership.. on a 7! and they pass.
zerkers run 6 into the ruins on the other side of the obective (1 turn away from reaching it now)
squad of 6 runs 2 ouch.
assault:
defiler squishes the nob and consolidates on top of a building giving him a perfect site of the hiding orks.
nothing else to do.
ORKS TURN 5:
orks move into cover ontop of his objective.
nothing else to do.
I rolled to see if the game gets to go on.. I rolled a cocked 6, he makes me re-roll (I gave him a cocked 6 before... bleh) gets a 1.. damnit.
Since it was capture and control we both have 1 objective.
Its a draw how unfortunate.
But for bragging rights I get 9 kill-points to his 4kill points.
Personal notes:
I did not know my list was underpointed, i could have brought more rhinos or another squad of chosen! But..
with a 124 point handicap. I still managed to score a draw with a 5 kill point lead giving me bragging rights (lesser version of a minor victory).
Gazzy is surprisingly hard to kill. But I was rolling VERY poorly on everything today. (seriously, out of all my rolls today.. ive counted 35 1's, and 20 2's)
