Judge Dredd hase been informed of this thread, and the location of its original poster.

I had a judge who was also the ringer offer to play me the round I had a bye. He said the worst I could get was a tie and I didn't have to play if I didn't want to and just wanted the break. I went ahead and played the game against an IG parking lot with some outflanking crap, come to find. My army got tabled and the judge made a few bad rules calls I asked him to look up (he would later admit he had made a mistake). Long story short, he gave me something like a 3/10 on sportsmanship. All of my other opponent's gave me max and it's not like I had some pact going on How a judge playing an optional game with an opponent who can't get worse than a tie can even have a sportsmanship to contribute is beyond me, but whatever.

I find their stupid wigs really annoying. Oh, did you mean tourney judges?

Maybe you could be a bit more specific in your description?

That's crazy, if it was your bye, then it should have just been a for fun exhibition game. You shouldn't have got any points added or taken away. I'd have been upset. Heck, I'm upset for you now! lol

A bye? Really? No such thing in my tourneys. That's what ringers are for, and if you lose, you lose.

Oh yeah, I'm one of those judge types. Actually quite a few of us on here.

For reference in the "ringer" side topic, when I've run tournaments the Ringer plays a real game, but uses a moderate list and plays it in a relaxed way. He's being paired up against a newbie in R1, and against the lowest-scoring player in subsequent rounds, so he's not trying to bust heads. But he's not a free win or draw.

It's my personal opinion that the ringer army should always be a fairly standard Marine force. Nothing exotic, nothing unbalanced, but a solid fighting army that can go toe to toe with nearly any opponent but shouldn't be a bad draw for anybody.

We only have one judge for our tournaments as its a small store. He's a cool guy and lets people join at the last minute and still manages to keep everything organized and proper.

I've judged a few tournaments now (six 40K events in 5th edition) at a few different locations. There are challenging moments for sure, but it's always fun meeting players and seeing how their armies fair throughout the day. Lucky for me, we have a lot of great players in our area (SoCal) to keep things enjoyable. Cheers fellas
