so i am getting into fantsy and decided to get into the skaven so far i have:

88 clan rats
2 rat ogres ( i think these will be my favorites and hope to get more down the road)
1 warlord
1 warlock engineer
1 skaven master moulder
1 warpfire thrower
1 poison wind mortor
31$

lol dont even have the codex yet
so i will probably get that with the 31$
but what i really want to know are tactics, good equiptment choices for my heroes clan rats and every thing else, what should i get next a battalion another island of blood to split or other thing like a bell a doom wheel, is it a good idea to do a 10x5 with clan rats, should i make and abomination thing

so as you can see i need help i somewhat know how to play thanks to the beast of war on youtube
so thanks for any help

Well the min size of a rat ogre unit is 3 so you'll need one more to field them, other than that im not very in on the skaven army so i'll just throw in some basics.
Use large units of skavenslaves for tarpitting, the most common build is 50 arranged with 10!!! ranks of epic steadfastness. Nturally converting clanrat models for this purpoce is the most cost effective way.
Scaven have some very dangerous hammer units for that slave anvil too, plague monks rat ogres not to mention the infamous hell pit abomination and the doom wheel.
Skaven heroes can do all sorts of things gray seers and plague priests are great magesm especially when combined, and come with some funky mounts, while warlords can be kitted out for some CC ownage, the rat people also have that sneaky thing called a storm banner which can totally screw up enemy shooting, it's usually put in stormvermin units.
Oh and speaking of shooting, the randomness of the skaven ranged weapons is rather fun on the battlefield, mobile poisoned moratrs, miniguns prone to selfdestruction, and flamethrowers that can shoot into combat, and lets not forget the potentionally devastating (to either side) warp lightning cannon

Actually the min size for rat ogres is 2. I know GW is stupid, but they aren't stupid enough to put a unit you can't field in the IoB box set.

Oh wait... I just noticed the griffon.

i'm assuming you got yourself a Isle Of Blood box set, and then a box of clanrats?

If so, i'd either go for a Battalion as your next (after the codex) buy or a Plauge Furnance with some pluage monks.

DO NOT BUILD IT AS A SCREAMING BELL!
as you will not be able to field it for a while, as you need almost 2000 points to field one :O!

ooh ok and i got 1/2 of the island of bloodfor 30$ and bought 48 of the old clanrats off a friend for 20$ it was a great deal and i guess i will buy 1 15$ hq (which 1 should i get) then save for the battalion (or should i split another island of blood) and then get either a doom wheel or the furnace bell box set

Dont buy the battalion. For the price of half an IoB box and a box of plague monks you have the same thing with an additional poison wind mortar and you will be way ahead of the battalion in $$$.

Unless a Sneaky dwarf player fires a cannon into its face and gets a 6 on his wound roll

Right. But you wont be playing against Dwarfs every time and he wont roll a 6 every time and half the time your Storm Banner will shut it down anyways for the turn.

Ahh storm banner, it actually makes my lizzards happy seeing the rats activate it and give me a brake from the mortars and and fire throwers

What idiot would activate the storm banner against an army that doesnt have a ton of war machine fire...

Especially if they bring a bunch of war machines themselves...

Good advice for sure I'll have to remember to not activate a Storm Banner against Lizards. I dont think I would have anyways or would even take the banner against them as I'd rather be pumping mortar and catapults into them round after round.

If I can interject here as well, I would suggest getting the army book myself as it's good to give ideas for painting and will help you referece things as you need to, unless you can get enough access to one as it is, and I would suggest getting some jezztails at some point, they're a really neat model and can do some nice damage (I think.)

I have never had success with jezzails. I like the model, and think they are a really neat model. However the fact that you will be hitting on at best, 4's is ugh.

So far I have 3 of the IoB Skaven sets, 200 night goblins (to be used as slaves), and 1 box of Stormvermin. I am thinking of getting 2 Doomwheels and 1 or 2 Warp Fire Cannons, is there anything else I should be looking at getting prior to that? I was planning on saving geting the plague monks till I can buy 2 boxes of them + the furnace all at once.

When you get the plague monks try and get 3 boxes because you can put a flail/censer on 4 of the monks from each box and then use them as censer bearers so this will give you 48 monks and 12 censer bearers. To add to that get one metal blister pack of censer bearers for $15 so you can have 16 total and make them into 2 units of 8. Yes they are really good flanking units. The other thing is the Hell Pit Abom's are stinkin sick and I think everyone will tell you the same. But there is no model for them currently so look for a replacement model or start converting your own.

Edit: Other then this you seem to be on track. Good job dude!

I know I am not running a HPA till they make a model because anything I make will just look dumb. Thank you for the tip about the plague monks though, that is genius.

Dude a guy i know made an HPA from a wad of green stuff equivalent (the name of which IDK) and a bunch of spare bits, and let me tell ya even so it can be made to look cool.

well i wana make a HPA but cant decide the way to do it
heere are my ideas
Corpse cart (vampire counts)
A giant rat thing (necromunda)
Troll bloods Mauler, swamp troll, earthborn dire troll, or a slag troll (hordes)

of course i will add to them spare parts and what not
so what you guys think is better

Lets see I can spend hours making a HPA that will look like crap compared to what ever GW ends up putting out, or I can use those hours to paint my hundreds of skaven so I have a fully painted army...

But really I could just put a glob of GS and stick some bits on it but that looks like crap.

Im just gonna buy the Necromunda model "The Caller" and use that and if GW makes a model for the HPA that looks way different i'll buy that too and use both of them. Doesnt matter what they look like... who knows what happens to things when pumped full of warpstone!! So my point is if your going to do a conversion then just shoot for the stars and make whatever you think would look cool or don't its all good .

I've been toying with using a corpse cart + greenstuff + my old rat ogres (the new ones are sooo much nicer), to build a HPA. Should be an interesting experiment for a conversion.
