Hey guys i just got off the website for warmachine and i just have to say the models are incredible and very well done. I would love to start this game up but afraid that no one in az plays it! lol but models are a little bit pricy but i guess its because you dont need that many. My only question is how come they have Hordes and the other one.. can they 2 different type of i guess categories play together?

Hordes and Warmachine are essentially the same game. The difference between the two is the resource mechanic they use (Warmachine uses focus, Hordes has fury). They're both balanced against one another, and are expected to play against each other.

Not sure about the Mesa area (because I'm a Missourian and know feth all about AZ), but there's at least some Warmahordes players in the state. The Privateer Big Boards have a player finder section, which I'd suggest you check out if you're looking for more players. Failing that, drag a friend into it, get a pair of battle boxes, and learn to play! If there's not an existing player base, manufacture your own. It's not too hard, as once you've figured it out and decide you're having fun with it it won't be hard to find people who wonder what you're playing. Just stay away from basement gaming and you're good.

Warmachine/Hordes is going pretty strong. Your best bet on finding someone to play with is to look for a Press Ganger in your area. They should be able to hook you up with a regular group.

Just bear in mind that Warmachine/Horde players tend to be more competitve and more abrasive then the Warhammer players in general, as the game is more about winning then it is anything else.

I've actually found the exact opposite, something I chalked up to the rules being considerably better organized and written, meaning much less loophole exploitation and rules lawyering.

If OP is still in Mesa, I believe there is a fairly strong Warmachine/Hordes presence in and around Phoenix and Tucson. I was researching as I thought I might be headed that way for a job, and found the following thread on the Privateer Press forum. It's a few months old, but it might give you a place to start looking.

Thats the exact opposite of what I found. Like geoff said, due to beeing no loopholles in the rules, the tournament atmosphere is alot more laid back and with much less conflict than in an average 40k / fantasy tournament. There is also no auto-loss due to list matchups like it happens in fantasy / 40k...

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I've fought Skorne, but never Molik Karn. Is he any good?

Also, I would call that 'being unprepared', which is entirely the player's fault for entering a tournament without a decent grasp of the possible matchups.

He's a glass cannon, but with the amount of speed and damage buffs Skorne can bring to bear he hits stupidly hard (PnS 13 Weapon Master w/ combo strike and the ability to boost after the fact) at extreme ranges (SPD 6 and a pair of Sidesteps). It's relatively easy to keep him from killing your caster by keeping far back where he can't get to you without leaving his Warlock's control, but if you don't he can get around nearly anything you put in his way.

If Moliks going for the assassination the caster is running/charging to keep within control range.

In general it's hard to get by the Molik missile because for some utterly slowed reason you can sidestep off of friendly models and Skorne has a fair number of speed buffs. Basically, run some disposable infantry up to side step off of if there aren't enemy models in position, cast speed buffs, paingivers give free charge, caster runs/charges and Molik kills your caster. The amount of ground he can cover is pretty stupid and with a solid statline and the ability to boost after seeing the result, once he gets there it's just over.

I remember one time I saw a game on Vassal with Sloan vs. Zaal (when Zaal was still broken during the FT with the blind feat). Turn 1 Sloan feat with an alphastrike on MK. At the time, I thought that was a bit excessive until I was on the receiving end of him once. Once.
