Nothing really says you can't as long as your opponent is fine with it. For tournaments, it's an entirely different matter and the safest answer for those is "no".

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

If you actually put the effort into converting it (i.e., open top, big shootas, etc...) I doubt many (if any) tournies would have issue with it.

One thing to watch out for would be a possible issue with "looted wagons" and your 'rhino trucks.' Someone could, ostensibly, be confused; unlikely, as looted vehicles are VERY rare in most tourney lists.

I plan on running my ork list in an upcoming tournament Im kind of scrap for cash right now.so no converted rhinos count as trukks.

Yeah, the key thing is not to confuse people. So, you'd probably REALLY have to orkify them - cut them up and build new bits, etc. Just sticking some ork bits to a Rhino and painting it with glyphs won't cut it.

If you have multiple, I'd make sure there's some consistency in your conversions, so that all the converted trukks are recognisable as the same thing.

Also, you should make the finished conversion roughly the same height and footprint as the current Trukk model.

Best answer: ask the TO - its THEIR tournament so if they say no, then you cant do it - no matter what we say.

These are the two most important answers right here. 1) Don't make it look like you're modeling for advantage - make the Rhino about the same length, width, and height as an actual Ork Trukk. There are a number of websites that can give you the dimensions if you need them. 2) When in doubt, ask the TO. They're the final authority in the context of a tournament as to what is okay and what is not.

I would be perfectly okay with it, especially if the conversion is suitably cool-looking. But I'm also not a TO.

in my exp in tourneys and conversions, most people point out whats what before the game starts. ie: my converted rhinos are all trukks with x upgrades" have your army list ready to back you up, and 98% of people should not have an issue with it. problems most occur amidst confusion, wich happens when things arent explained. that said as mentioned above, TO is final word.

Don't forget to cut the back out or add a platform or something. Trukks ARE open topped after all.

Well it does say in the ork dex that no two trukks would actually look alike. And that each clan customizes to their own ideal image. As such I think you are fine doing whatever you like (also if you hold a rhino beside a truck they are very close to size. Bang on in length i believe.) And as long as you are clear before a game what is what then there shouldnt be a problem. I suspect there are a other motives (fear, anality) that would cause someone to not allow you to use a rhino as a trukk.

I think one problem could be that every vehicle on a Rhino basis is considered a tank rules-wise. A trukk is not a tank - having a trukk that looks like a tank...well, I guess if you buy the reinforced ram upgrade, that would do the heavy Rhino chassis some justice.

How does this have any bearing on the rules whatsoever?

If it looks like a tank, but does not have the "Tank" rule, what is it?

(hint: not a tank)
