Hey guys I'm thinking of a 1000 pt salamander list and have tried this one so far, its effective if all goes to plan but if one little thing stuffs up the list basicaly gets slaughtered so I wanted to hear your thoughts of it.
HQ
Vulkan 190
Elite
5x Assault Termies 200
TH/SS
Troops
10x marines 205
MM
Flame
Rhino
Fast Attack
Land Speeder 70
MM
HF
Land Speeder 70
MM
HF
Heavy Support
Land Raider Redeemer 265
MM
Extra Armour
Total 1000
The tact squad will be combat squaded, mm and 4 marines in a building and flamer in a rhino.
Is a Land raider with assault termies to much at 1000 pts?
What should I put in instead, I was thinking another tact squad and 2 LC/Ac Preds.
Thanks.

Its an ilegal list, you need 2 troop choices. Personally I prefer a 100pt Libby at 1k

Dosnt combating the tact squad at the start count them as being 2 troops choise ( 1 each)?
Also i want vulkan in there just because it feels right, besides hardly anyone uses psykers at my store, even though I can see the libby helping anyway I just feel vulkans better and more right for a sally list.
Edit: spelling

No, combat squadding still counts as one Troop choice. Take a small unit of Scouts with a Locator Beacon/Teleport Homer for your Termies. Also, I can see how you would want a Redeemer in there for MC Flamestorms but a Godhammer or Crusader will perform much better.

This is a much better list. I would take this at 1000 points if you insist on running Vulkan. I am, obviously, a huge proponent of Vulkan and Salamanders in general but at 1000 points a Libby with a squad of gating Terminators may be a better choice. Although I haven't played a 1000 point game in a while at 1250 I would run...
Vulkan
5 TH/ SS Termies
Techmarine with Servo Harness
3 Tactical Squads in Drop Pods
It was a pretty fun list.

Thanks for all the replies
@corennus
I thought marines could only take special weapons when their squad is at a number of 10 or does vulkan boost that up to 10 and still let it count, if so why no MM with that squad?
I've looked a lot at the thunder fire cannon and I like it a lot but I just think it'll die to fast unless you know some way it wont die in turn 1 from a lascannon I probaly wont be taking it.
@overwatch
Do drop podding sallies realy work? I can see the list working well with pods helping flamers and melta range and also termies not scattering on the deeptrike, what is the point of the techmarine in your list I dont see much point repairing storm bolters on pods so I must be missing something.
I would probaly run a drop podding list but I fear that all the pods will provide easy kill points.
On another note I was thinking of 2 vindicators instead of the preds in the previous list just for ap 2 and template support but I know they have many downfalls (if they are unable to move or shoot or weapo destroyed they are basically useless),
Thanks.

The Techmarine with ServoHarness has a Flamer so I put him and vulkan in a pod with a Tac squad with Flamer/ ML and sarge with PFand Combi-flamer. That way the pod puts out a ton of twin linked flamer death and can withstand some shooting and assaults. With the techmarine you get 4PF attacks and 3 Str6 PW at initiative attacks. That is the sole reason for the techmarine, that and the 90 points I had lying around... Automatically Appended Next Post: OverwatchCNC wrote:ShasO Ben wrote:Thanks for all the replies

Well I just played the list a couple times vs tau necrons and tyranids, tau got murdered and necrons died at an average rate, tyranids won only because I did bad moves but its good to learn new things on proxy fights against yourself ( like vulkan assaulting a hive tyrant )
@OverwatchCNC
If the techmarine was an upgrade to a squad of marines I'd probaly take him but he seems like an easy kill point.
I think my last list is pretty solid but I'm thinking about maybe getting telion with a scout squad in and a speeder for their transport, I want the scouts missile launcher to take out powerfists and klaws the enemy might have in a big squad so if vulkan assaults he wont get instant deathed, also instant deathing commanders could be good.
HQ
Vulkan 190
Troops
10 marines 215
mm
flamer
combi flamer
Rhino
5x scout 140
Telion

Land Speeder 70
MM
Hf
Land Speeder Storm 65
MM

Predator 120

Predator 120

Its basicaly scouts vs tact marines, I think the first list is overall better but wanted to make sure what you guys thought and if any of the lists needs something.
Thanks.

My suggestion for Vulkan is take what he master crafts.
Dah but thats what makes sense.
So you want TH termies, flamers and melta.
Thats all close range, so you need to gear to that. You will be assaulting, not sitting back shooting.
So if your investing 190 in vulkan you dont have 100 extra for libby so gate is out
How about teleport homers on tac squads. That way you dont have to fork out for raiders.
So my suggestion
Vulkan 190
5 Assault Terminators 5 Thunder Hammers 200
5 Assault Terminators 5 Thunder Hammers 200
5 Tactical Marines Locator Beacon, Combiflamer 115
Rhino Extra Armour, Dozer Blade 55

A named HQ is very hard to run at low point values.
My advice to you would be to do one of two things. The first is to ditch vulkan and stick with a 100 point HQ of your choice. You can still build your list towards a vulkan list, but I wouldnt add him until you go up in points. The other option is to take Vulkan and run small scout squads as your troops and fill the rest of your list up with the two units that take the most advantage of Vulkan, Ironclad Dreadnoughts and Speeders.

1. List is illegal.
2. Really, stop with the HK's everywhere. You need more than 2 to make then effective, especially considering those rhinos will be boosting to midfield turn 1.
3. Is that speeder squadron all 3 speeders in one unit? Cant tell, if it is, split them up into single speeders as you have free FOC slots.
4. Really, why the thunderfire?

Thanks all for the replies.
@ loricatus
Personaly I'd rather tl meltas multimeltas, flamers and heavy flamers in such a low pt list, I do seee how your list can be effective but I just think that 2 rhinos and a land speeder on the table with 5 guys in the rhinos will hold long enough against say mech guard.
In the end tl heavy flamers from speeders and multimeltas do better overall then what a couple thunder hammers would of done considering they might not make combat if my opponents smart.
Also add what Corennus typed that makes a great point, if they could assault after deep strike that would rock.
@ Catyrpelius
I know Vulkans a lot of points for 1000 pt games but he basicaly makes up them 90 points I'd get from a libby thanks to twin linking my meltas and flamers, in all my games if those speeders didnt have twin linked weaponry they would have been gone.
I dont know about running ironclads, drop podding lists get hurt by people who kow how to kill them and if the ironclads are walking then I dont see them making combat, maybe I'll have something like your idea but I'd probaly swap the dreads for something else.
I'm thinking about a sternguard squad with combi meltas and heavy flamers to travel around with vulkan, any thoughts on this?
To fit the sternguard in I'd probaly take out the predators
Thanks.

100 points for that amount of firepower? yes please.
Also it's fluffy for a Salamander list.
The Landspeeders could be split into a 2 speeder and 1 speeder unit.

Youre using 200 points on cannons that vulkan doesnt buff, and conisdering vulkan is 20% of the points in the list thats not too smart. I wouldnt take extras on rhinos, ever, and HK's are fine when you have 6+ of them, not 2. Also I'd change the sarges combi to a flamer, as the single melta isnt really reliable enough.

For me you still need something to take on big bugs, that winged DP etc
TL TH/SS termies are just gold - I put up a battle report v slaan marines where the shrugged off everything thrown at them - I have seen 5 of these guys take out 20 wraithguard and Yuriel, 12 noise marines, Greater Deamons - they are the kings of the battlefield and you get TL with Vulkan.
Most opponents I have played have poured fire onto them every turn - fill your boots, it usually bounces off

Yet again thanks for all the replies.
@Corennus
I dont see thunderfires lasting very long in games, 1 wound with a 2+ save isnt very good even with the techmarine you still have to put half the wounds you take on the cannon.
@Catyrpelius
I'm aware how nasty an ironclad in pod can be mainly in a vulkan list but I think that only 1 drop pod in my list might not be enough, unless I keep it in reserve and attack with my flamers etc when the pod finaly comes on, or deep strike it 1st turn to take pressure off my rhinos.
I keep considering this idea so many times and love dreadnaughts a lot (one of the main reasons I wanna start marines yet I use none) I would have to remove a predator and the combi weapons but I see it working, maybe I should try get 2 ironclads in pods for more pressure seeing as 1 predator might not do much and not be a big threat?
@Jabbido
Very good points on all things.
@Loricatus Aurora
I dont think I can fit all them termies in, lso without a landraider I dont see them helping to much, maybe a shooty termie squad with missile launcher or assault cannon?
I agree I'm missing something to take out big things, for some reason multimeltas and lascannon are not enough to kill a trygon in one turn.
Maybe this is another reason why I should consider an ironclad?
Thanks for all the help so far guys keep it coming!
Also on another note I have an idea for some ironclads in the list and I'll play test it tonight and see if its worth while or not.

That list seems pretty good, would a powerfist help the squad Vulkans with so he's not the only one doing combat pain or wouldnt it be worth it?
Why the locator beacons on the drop poads, are they realy worth it?
thanks.
