I was looking at the space marine legion of the damned and wondered if I could make something similar men but guardsman and if anyone had tips or colour schemes that may help me or that I can add to my men

I would go with very drab and gritty colors. Bestial brown I've found with gray for outlining details works great.

Why not try painting them up in a ghostly blue/green ? Like the ones guys from return of the king ?

Back to OP I would think something along the lines of back with flames on a la LoD but maybe with some glowing eyes too.

Get the skeleton kit from Fantasy, mix parts in, an rejoice.

Depends what you like about the LotD.

Do you just like black with flames? Then just do that.

Do you like the idea of undead guard? Then do the part mixing thing with skeletons.

Do you like the idea of a mysterious, ghostly IG regiment that appears in times of great need? Then do the ghostly green/grey scheme.

Thank you for the suggestions, I've begun painting a guardsman. His armour is black with flames on his shoulders, and the armour plates by his boots and his eyes have an earie (sorry if spelt wrong) green glow and he has a bunch of open wounds on his body, I will get the skeleton kit for them. What should I make the cloth part of his uniform, I've already used black for the armour so that rules it out.

Even more epic if they were ACTUALY playing iron maiden

And i love the sound of those LotD guardsmen with the open wounds etc....and i think i might have to have a go at making those ghostly versions....would look epic on the table ^^
