Given that Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader are excellent products (putting aside that I know a number of people have issues with percentile-based games), I have no doubt that Deathwatch will continue their track record of engaging and exciting RPG's.

Man... I sound like a plant.

Anyway, we've had a lot of fun with our Dark Heresy campaign, and are all looking forward to sinking our teeth into playing as a Marine. I'm also looking forward to playing an RPG, as opposed to being the one running it all the time. That should be fun.

I now leave the rest of this thread to devolve into a discussion about Female Marines (Newsflash: There aren't any), and how it is 'impossible' to role-play a Marine.

If you can role-play as a sexy SnowGodzirra in assless leather chaps, you can role-play as a Space Marine.

Exactly.

I've been saying for a while now that you only get out of an RPG what you put in. If you come at Deathwatch to role-play a squad of Marines on a difficult mission, you will get that. if you come at Deathwatch going "Spase Mareinz! HURR!" and think that they can't be role-played, well guess what, you'll get a crap game out of it.

This isn't to say that only people who take it seriously will get the most out of the game, but walking into an RPG already convinced that the actual RPG itself cannot be an RPG is just setting yourself up for failure.

As H.B.M.C. noted, given the pedigree here (Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader), Deathwatch stands to be.... AWESOME.

But yes, it is an RPG, so a good gamemaster AND group of players WILL be required.

Having said all that...

And one thing i am excited about this game is might finalize Some of the trivial Details about space marines That always sit in the back of peoples minds like the weight of power Armour is an example...I cant wait for this game TBH but the only downside to it is that all my friends don believe in using there imagination unless its how to imagine getting 26 head shots in a row on COD :O

The only thing stopping me buying warhams 40million RPG rulebooks is
A) the price
B) I'd always end up being the GM.

Other than that it looks good, not that I know too much about FFGs line of 40k RPGs.

Too true.

Anyways Back when I went to /tg/ they seemed very psyched for this game. Looks like fun (although the new RT expansion is giving the xeno lovers some interest)

I was getting ready to ask are there any 40k RPG's that let you play as a Xeno

The prices is a little to steep but hey at least compared to some other games like D&D Were you have to buy 3 separate books adding up to almost 90 dollars but for 60 you get everything i dont think its a bad price...

It was fun when we roleplayed it, but if I say what I did in the roleplay they'll probably try and warn me.

I've already pre-ordered my copy of Deathwatch.

The rules system is similar to that of Dark Herey and Rogue Trader, both of which are based on the original Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play of th 80's. And that was/is a damn fine RPG.

I've no doubt Deathwatch RPG will be a great game.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

im sure you can Role play a SM, but i could see it being hard if every marine was from the same chapter, due to the doctrines of a chapter i feel like all the marines would be more or less the same with a few ticks here and there, whereas a marines from different chapters would be vastly different and could lead to some very interesting role playing, DA and a SW together is an example that came to mind, but even things like a BA and UM, watching each have different approaches to the battle ahead as well as how they act in thier "free time" would be interesting.

Well that's why it's a 'Deathwatch' RPG and not an 'Ultramarines' or 'Blood Angel' RPG. The book has 6 different Chapters, and when the expansion book Rites of War comes out we'll be getting Imperial Fists (at the very least) and a 'create-a-chapter' set of rules.

Just in time for someone to create overpowered rules for their custom-made Marine Sue chapter!

Joking aside, it should be interesting to see what they put in there.

Just out of curiosity. Is there an option to play as sister of battle, or mankind managed to create the most sexist RPG ever?

it's just a question. No need for a fight, btw

Sisters of Battle are already covered in Dark Heresy supplement "The Inquisitors Handbook"

No, I think F.A.T.A.L. has that covered.

Sisters of Battle are playable in a sense. There's no rules for the Godwyn De'az bolters, nor rules for the Sororitas Power Armor. But since they're equivalent to Marine weapons anyway, you can just use the rules for Astartes power armor, reduce the size and strength enhancement, and use the rules for the Godwyn pattern bolter.

Test Players playine current 6 said that the chapter traits and wotnot while giving some edge, didnt make everything too different so I'll doubt you can make a chapter that has lightning claws with heavy bolter gauntlets

A Grey Knight expansion, either from Death Watch, or using the Death Watch Marine rules as part of Dark Heresy would be kick ass.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
Lets settle this in the arena http://pantsformer.mybrute.com

Well, that wouldn't make a whole lotta sense for Deathwatch, given that a Grey Knight Marine cannot be a Deathwatch Marine and vice versa.

However, there is a Dark Heresy expansion coming later on next year (or the start of '12) that will include rules for GK's. As a player career, or just as NPCs, we don't know - but they'll be in there.
