Hi guys,

I think i'm finally gonna start reading the 8th edition rules and so hopefully my next battle will be 8th edition against a dark elves player. this is my list so far - would appreciate any advice

39 Orc Boyz w/ 2 choppas & full command 303

20 Night Goblins w/ sword and shield & 2 fanatics 130

Giant 205

20 Night Golins w/ bows & 1 fanatic 85

Goblin Shaman Lv 2 w/ staff of sneaky stealing 140

Orc Shaman Lv2 Dispell Scroll, Waagh Paint 135
in a Chariot 80

Black Orc Big Boss w/ Battle standard, spiteful shield, Ulags Axe 145

Rock Lobba 70

6 Savage Orc Boar Boyz w/ shield & spear & full command 188

TOTAL: 1491

What think you? I'm wondering how good the savage orc boar boyz are, as i've never used em before. I've usually taken a squad of normal boar boyz and they usually die quickly !

Also, my mate always takes a dark elf assassin and then easily kills my general or battle standard bearer - any ideas how to mitigate this? i've taken spiteful shield so hopefully the assassin kills himself on the shield!

I quite like having lots of magic so would like to stick with 2 shaman's, but it makes it hard to have a general and battle bearer given only 3 hero choices allowed.

Cheers,

Josh.

Hmm I'd drop the Orc Shaman and upgrade the Goblin to a Lvl4

Scrap giant, really bump up night goblin numbers (+30). Savage boars are hit or miss. Good for charge but you mind as well use cheaper chariots and get some other warmachines like doom divers

In a 1500 point game I can't use a lord which is why i have to use 2 shamans!

Think i agree on the boars - they don't seem to have done much in the games i've used them so far - but now i own the models and i've painted them

I just bought the giant and he did die without doing anything last game but he did manage to abosorb the entire firepower and most of the magic of the dark elf army for 3 turns to do that!

Nope, unless you're paying >375 points on a lord you can take one. Get a great Shaman. in 8th a lvl4 can do a lot more than 2 lvl 2's

Do the rules in the army books about how many rare/special/lords you can have for each point range not count anymore then?

Orc and Goblin army book say 0 Lords in a 2000 point of less game...

Is it just the rules in the 8th edition rule book about percentages of point spent on each type of unit that count now?

about your list: make the orc boyz choppa shield, not to choppas, it will save you a few points.

Anything with 2A is pretty much a waste in large units in 8th edition, due to the fact that you can attack in 2 ranks but only 1 attack per model after the first rank, so thats wasted points, where in 7th edition you would've doubled your attacks.

also, I would suggest downsizing this unit to, say, 30 and make the unit of nightgoblins 30 big or preferably more, and give them a banner and a musician.
also, putting a cheap bigboss with a great axe in it, is never a bad idea.

personally, I like gaints, they eiter suck, or do real good (but they seem to prefer the former )
but theyr great fun to play with, and thats what O&G is all about

also, when playing agains DE I would suggest taking a doom diver instead of a rock lobber.

hope this helps
