Hi all!

I'm doing a doubles tournament coming up this Saturday and each person gets 1850pts to work with. My friend is using an Imperial Guard armored company list it looks something like this,

Chimera x4 with Command Squad in 1, and Melta Vets in the other 3
Leman Russ Executioner x2 full sponsons
Hydra Flak Cannon x3
Vendetta x2 with Melta Vets in them

So the question I'm asking is what army and army type would be good to compliment this? My options are,

Blood Angels - 2x Land Raiders with Termies, 2x Assault Squads, Mephiston, and Predator

Imperial Guard - 2 Blobs of 4 squads with command squad and 2x Vendetta with Melta Vets in them

Eldar - 2x Wave Serpent with Dire Avengers in them, 2x Falcon with Fire Dragons, Fire Prism, Eldrad, and Avatar

Now I am also open to adding and subtracting units from those lists as well so if you guys could help me out and give me an opinion on which you think would compliment guard the best that would be awesome. Thanks!

It's 1850pts per player, no sharing points, 1 Force Organization Chart each, and no ability sharing.

Well the IG list seems very shooty... Try to compliment that.
Take a shooty army that can do pretty much the same and blast away all your opponents.

I'd consider taking Eldar with 2 Farseers... Doom two units and watch the IG mop them up. For the rest of the army possibly take some wraithlords, they provide a decent firebase and can counter charge any assaultly units quite effectivly. They can only be hurt by S:5 or greater and if you mind war any powerfists they can hold up a unit indefinetly.
The FD's will compliment the melta vets (but that may be too much melta)

I second this. For troops you should take some dire avengers in wave serpents. His list seems focused on anti tank so you should get anti infantry. Also some warp spiders would be a good mobile unit. I suggest taking something fast and combatty to take your opponents anti armor, a seer council on bikes or some harlies would work well for this. Also you should try to work out what tactics your ally will use, judging from his list he will most likely stayback and shoot with everything or charge with meltavets and use the tanks to stay back. If you use wraithlords they should stay with the tanks to A)add fire and B) countercharge. The Dire avengers and harlies or seer council should move up with his vets.

You could also go for all combat Blood angels and hope that your partner can open up transports for you to assault the guys inside, only do this if you are sure you can effectively communicate with your partner because this requires allot of teamate synergy to be used effectively.

I don't suggest using the guard because the virtue of doubles is that if your opponent has a list that is designed to kill your type of list your teamate can pick up the slack.

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

Altanis wrote Vindicare. Hes like Santa he watches when your sleeping. He knows when your awake. I doesn't matter if youve been bad or good because the inquisition put a hit out on you and a shield breaker round is gonna go through your head when your eating your weaties.

To be honest, your team mates list relies on shooting, and alot of it.
While i would suggest a combat army to help fill the gaps, i rather not since you will be getting in the way of his shooting alot of the time.
All of those guns are no use when you pin them in combat.

I'd set up a gunline army to go along with his.
So, could go tri-prism eldar with as much support as possible.
Or, could build a BA gunline (whirls, vindi's, godhammers etc)

This seems ok, but you still may struggle from time to time, so i would throw in a few combat units incase you get paired against daemons or another close-drop army.

Really is a shame you dont play tau though.
A 3,700 point mixed tau/guard gunline would just be evil.

Thanks guys for all the great advice I'll probably end up going with the Eldar. I can make a mean shooty/close combat Eldar army utilizing some of the tactics you guys gave me.

I agree with you Jack that would be awesome but I never really liked the Tau idk why.
