Hi guys, I was doing some Army list building the other night, and was shocked to discover the 1500pt Imperial Guard list I wanted to make would cost £383.50.....this is GW prices with no forgeworld or additions whatsoever.

c.comm
2 p.comm
10 inf squads
2 commisars
3 valks
2 banewolfs
1 vet squad

This got me thinking what is the most expensive army/race, and the least expensive army to make a list for.

Managed to do a BA one for £156

Mephiston
Sanguinor
S.priest
5 S.guard
2 units of 5 a.marines
2 Land raiders

But smashed that by doing a Necron one for only £100

Deciever
40 necrons
10 s.swarms
destroyer lord
3 destroyers

So guys, any ideas on the cheapest and most expensive army builds out there at 1500pts....all based on GW prices and so dont include any forgeworld models or things that require extensive conversion...ie seer council on bikes. Just a comparison based on GW base prices.

What point level we talking here? Cause I can do Logan Grimnar, 1 box of Wolf Guard terminators to make 2 Terminator HQs, a Venerable Dreadnought to be Bjorn the Fell-handed, 4 Land Raider Crusaders, 11 boxes of terminators, (for a total of 11) 15 Devastator boxes, (since there's only a single Missile Launcher in each), one Wolf Pack box to convert the Long Fangs to look more wolfy, 24 bikes, 3 attack bikes, and 3 more Venerable dreadnoughts.

I'm scared to do the math on this one...

Well, I think he started the thread for 1500pts. Most expensive and least expensive. Horde armies are the best way to go to get expensive, and forgeworld wasn't supposed to be used. Trying to go for the cheapest possible army in 1500pts seems like more of a challenge than an expensive one.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

command squad box, 2x infantry boxes, 5 ogryn, 2 russ kits: $288.75 (#188).

The question is, "why"? There's little chance of you winning a game with the most bloated list possible.

I would have to say either the SoB or GK are the most expensive armies.

Gks arent that bad, sure they are metal models but they have a high points cost, so it balances out....I honestly think a guard army will nearly always be the most expensive, and I find it hard to imagine someone could beat £100 for a 1500 pt army.

Mordian or vostroyan guard army.

When you're paying £2+ per model and the models are about 5pts each, it soon adds up. Adding in those lovely low point but expensive to buy chimeras for each squad really ups the cost nicely

Yeah, my ctrl+v skills failed. The points are accurate, though

And yeah, a vostroyan infantry horde would undoubtedly be the most expensive army. A single troops choice can cost up to $300

More than that - £20+ per unit of 10 men, of which you can have 5. 5 transports for them, which is another £90. Then 5 heavy weapon teams (hideously expensive), 2 special weapon teams, and the command squad - with transport.

For high cost it has to be the guard.

My wallet is really regretting my decision to start a Tallarn army (or atleast an IG army using Tallarn models), so far I've spent £160 and that's only getting me a single platoon (1 PCS, 2 IS, 1 HWS, 1 SWS) and an artillery piece (Forgeworld Medusa). Ok the £50 of Forgeworld tank ups the price a bit but even if I was using a regular Basilisk kit and converting it the cost would be £140. I've still got to add another identical platoon and a CCS to the army which could come in at another £100 or so. That little lot will only add up to 1000pts. Thankfully this project is a long term one and won't be added to until I've finished off my Thousand Sons.

Amusingly a full DoK army is cheaper than the metal guard armies. Same as the Tau BFG minis are actualy "cheap" compared to GW metal ones...

Hmm,
2 Vendetta - $120
2 Russ - $100
2 Basilisks - $100
1 Manticore - $50
Bunch of those $8 boxes of troopers.
A few of the $25-ish troop boxes? Maybe more.
Two boxes of heavy weaps - $70

Converted a little and ended up with 1750 of guard for 410+ pounds, so for 1500 maybe 370 pounds give or take?

Not cheap as cheap as other armies because we pay for A JET FIGHTER and tanks with 5 different front guns and all kinds of accessories. They're certainly more interesting than just another marine holding a sword and calling himself a Specialpants.

The cost they charge for broadsides and crisis suits would like to have a word with you.

$67 for 3 crisis.
$105 for 3 broadsides.

Conscripts using metal IG would cost a ton

Especially ones like Praetorians who dont have any direct orders

I actually think my GK's were my cheapest army, think I spent maybe £150ish to get 1500 points, will have to work it out with modern prices when the internet security shuts down for lunch

GKs are cheap without many vehicles, but they become pretty steep, like any other army.

SoB definitely, good luck finding any of these below retail. I can get a whole army on ebay of any other codex for ridiculously cheap.

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...
