I already have the standard Land Raider, Redeemer, Crusader, Terminus and Ares and I'm wanting to get another variation.

I haven't got the rules for either the Helios or Prometheus, yet, but I just wanted to know other peoples opinions on these two!

p.s sorry if this post is in the wrong place!

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Helios. Great anti-tank and anti-infantry.

Prometheus

12 HB shots that ruin non MEQs with easy is great

Helios has good AI firepower while retaining the Lascannons, while the Prometheus has pretty impressive AI firepower, and also gives support bonuses, such as +1 to reserve rolls, etc.

Obviously were kind of avoiding the Multimelta prometheus, as although it has awesome anti tank, its only awesome at 12 and fails at AI.

Id say take the Helios, but personal preference-ed-ly i would take the prometheus, I have enough anti tank in my army, 12 twin linked heavy bolter shots + whatevers on the front of the prometheus (forgotten) is quite impressive.

Another point for the Prometheus is that it's an elite choice rather then a heavy like the other LR (barring dedicated transports). It's anti horde capability is also bolstered by its reduction to cover saves.

It used to do that, but its current rules (via the update PDFs) do not have any of those goodies, its bonuses now only apply to itself.

Nothing there that's where it mounts the big sensor array thingy.

It has a storm bolter on top, pintle mounted.

The Promethius is an elites while the Helios is heavy and has the other variants to compete with, i'd take the Promethius. Both are AI primarily and the Promethius has improved comms.

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

Thanks for all the info, I'm going to go with the Prometheus at this time.

I like the sound of 12 twin-linked HB shots and seen as since January there has been a big increase in Nid armies popping up locally I think the AP 4 will go down rather nicely, well with me it will anyway!

Plus its a little different and if I think i'll need more anti-tank i'll take the std LR or the Terminus and if I need more Anti-infantry i'll take my two whirlwinds!

Cheers guys!

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The Helios is a joke.

You can never make use of its Lascannons, Whirly Launcher and transport capacity at the same time, so the tank is more confused than ever.

Stick with the Prometheus. Quad-Twin Heavy Bolter is just awesome.

Good idea! Plus you'll pretty much autokill unbuffed gaunts even in cover

thing about terminus is though it doesnt technically fit within the FOG

Sorry mate I'm pretty new to the whole forum thing. What's FOG?

Also I don't suppose you know which of the Imperial Armour books has the rules for these two in?

You're not looking at the updated rules from the PDF IA update for volume 2. They took both the pintle Storm Bolter and the Improved Comms away.

Actually since they needed to update the rules for IA vol 1 and 2 their all available as a free download now, and you want #2 right here.

I took the Helios with the AA munitions in a recent Apoc game because my opponent has sprung fliers on me in the past. Plus, it still has a pair of TL-Lascannons to deal with stuff if he didn't bring his fliers (he didn't).

Jackmojo, that IA update PDF has the outdated Helios and Promethius stats.

The Imperial Armor: Apoc II book has the most recent versions of the Helios and the Promethius.

I have a helios and love it, its definately not confused, it has 3 weapons that all shoot 48" how can that be confused?
its a pill box on tracks that can sit at the rear of an army firing deadly blows to armour or infantry and using machine spirit means that the AI can be fired at infantry while the las keep hitting armour or heavy troops. you can also house a small squad and IC inside to rush an objective at the end. for me its a winner.

not sure why you would choose the promethious over a crusader?(especially with its lower transport number, no room for a full squad and IC, which at close range you would need) and if you say for the lower cover save then take a redeemer and burn them out.

Just to be clear, there are 3 somewhat current books that I own, not counting all of the IA books. I do not own all of the IA books, so I cannot speak to their content. I only own the following 3 books.

There is Apocalypse. (the original Apocalypse Expansion book)
There is Apocalypse Reloaded. (the revised Apocalypse Expansion book)
There is Imperial Armory: Apocalypse II.

The IA: Apocalypse II has the newest Helios and Prometheus, I think. My books are at home, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

Crud they changed it again? Not near my copy of IAA2 is it more like the old IAV2 one or the version from the update?

EDIT: woo for remote PC access from work, OK so its almost an amalgam of the two versions that's nice. Ignore my prior comments about it losing the reserve bonus, now I'd definitely take it over the Helios except perhaps in Apocalypse where I might need a tough AA platform
