Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

Howdy all,
So me and a few guys at my FLGS played a few games today. We're all learning 8th, but ran into a situation we couldn't find an easy answer for in the BRB. Here it is:
- My gyrocopter moved behind some night goblins and proceeded to get a steamgun template to hit 17, killing around 10 of the little guys
- My dwarf thunderers also shoot the same unit, killing 4
- Having killed 14 of 25 of the little guys, my buddy rolls his leadership and fails, falling back 14 inches
- The problem is, the goblins path would take them into the copter. After looking through the BRB for about 15 minutes, we decided to call the unit destroyed because the goblins were so frightened they ran into the blades of the copter and got splatted
Did we play this right? if not, where in the BRB do we find it?

First, you should have taken a panic test after they took the 10 casualties. You don't wait til the end of the phase anymore.
Second, they just take a dangerous terrain test and pop out on the other side.

As above.
You are no longer autodestroyed for running through an enemy unit, insteaad every model that passed through takes a DT, as Killhoy said.
As before you panic immediately now - so they would have run from the Gyro
